The first edition of Die Traumdeutung (translated as The Interpretation of Dreams, 1913) bears a publication date of 1900, although it actually appeared in Vienna in November 1899. This is consistent with the pivotal temporality of a work that looks retrospectively into the nineteenth century and prospectively into the twentieth. In 1931, Freud said of his first and arguably most important book, "It contains, even according to my present-day judgement, the most valuable of all the discoveries it has been my good fortune to make. ,,WER MIT den Juden kämpft, kämpft mit dem Teufel": So die Behauptung im Kommentar zu dem Film Juden ohne Maske, welcher vom Gaufilmstellenleiter Walter Böttcher im Auftrag des Reichspropagandaministeriums 1938 zusammengestellt wurde. Dieser Film sollte als Mittel der ,Volksaufkärung' über die Ziele und Beweggründe der nationalsozialistischen Politik fungieren und griff die antisemitische Fahne, die schon in der Münchener Ausstellung ,,Der ewige Jude" 1937 plakativ ausgehängt wurde, zielstrebig auf. Die Einsetzung dieses Filmes nach den Novemberpogromen im Jahr 1938 weist auf eine gezielte Taktik des Propagandaministeriums hin, vollendete Tatsachen nachträglich durch filmische Darstellungen zu rechtfertigen. Hochhuth's play Der Siellvertreter (The Deputy) similarly raises moral issues and questions, specifically about the responsibility of individuals as part of greater entities (such as the medical profession, the defense apparatus, and the Church). It is a very dark and controversial play from the 1960' s, dealing with "the culture of death" by using representations of figures from the holocaust of WWII in Europe and Central Europe as characters, and it has sparked a great deal of debate, which continues to this day.

The study was inspired by continuous discussion in the field of second language acquisition and teaching on the role of grammar instruction in successful language learning. Traditionally foreign language and second language classrooms have been taught with a pedagogical focus on language structure. More recently there has been support for second language classrooms focusing on content, function, or communication rather than form. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to compare the effectiveness of an innovative function-based classroom with a traditional form-based classroom.

In this brief monograph based on her dissertation, Leslie Morris sets out to achieve a series of aims: to contest the alleged divide between Bachmann's poetry and prose, to counter "the myth of her apolitical poetic voice" (10), to address the presence and absence of history in her poetry, and, finally, to consider how to read Bachmann's poetic ceuvre in light of historical developments in Germany and Austria in the 1980s and 1990s. In a sense, Morris is also trying to rehabilitate post-war aesthetic modemism from a reductive, binary mode of criticism that separates aesthetics and politics. Following in the …

TEAMS Medieval German Texts in Bilingual Editions

These texts will be of interest because they represent a kind of writing - at the intersection of ecclesiastical and secular power, drawing on the whole range of medieval Latin learning, yet written in vernacular verse - that is not found elsewhere in the European Middle Ages. In addition, they may be of use in teaching since, although relatively short, they illustrate a great number of characteristic medieval ways of writing and can be linked to a number of quite remarkable historical figures.
