Thinking can take only one form ("it-is"), because thinking of this kind and that- which-is are inseparable (and so thinking can never be found ’’with" anything else, nor in any other form than "it-is"), This is because (there cannot be anything else, "with" which thinking might be found, since) that-which-is is unique, being necessarily whole and unmoved. The argument moves from thinking to that-which-is. It asks why thinking can take only one form and answers that the necessity of being, which makes that-which—is unique, does not permit an alternative. Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports
In October 1957, a scientific inspection was conducted by L.Y. Rahmani, following an unauthorized excavation that was carried at Kibbutz Nahshon (map ref 1960/6370). A burial cave that was dated to the Byzantine period was exposed in the excavation, which was conducted by Kibbutz members A. Ori and Z. Hanina.

The two surviving fragments of this argument make up between them some 75% of all that has come down to us of Zeno's original treatise. On this one ground, if on no other, they have a high claim on the attention of anyone interested in becoming acquainted with the authentic Zeno. The problems they present are great but, one may hope, not insuperable.

In 1956, an excavation was conducted at Kibbutz Allonim (map ref. 214-5/736-7). The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by J. Elgavish. A Jewish burial cave was exposed. The cave was dated to the Roman period. No finds were catalogued in the National Treasures collections.

In 1956, an excavation was conducted in Narbata, near Kibbutz Ma’anit (map ref. 2030/7060). The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by F. Berger and S. Ben Aryeh. A burial cave was exposed. Two decorated sarcophagi were found inside the burial chamber. The cave was dated to the Roman period.

In April–May 1956, a trial excavation was conducted in Tel ‘Ali (Map ref. 25270/73390), the second of four excavation seasons (see JIPS 2 [1961]:58–59), in the lands of Alumut farm, south of the area that was excavated the previous year. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by M. Prausnitz. In the current excavation, the third phase was unearthed, which was dated entirely to the Chalcolithic period.

In December 1956, an excavation was conducted near the northern gate of the Tirat Zvi group (map ref. 249875/703250), following the exposure of a burial cave during earth mining. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by N. Zori with the assistance of Y. Reifen of Tirat Zvi group (surveying). The cave was badly damaged during the mining and the excavators encountered difficulty revealing the finds in situ due to the rainy weather.

In 1956–1957, an excavation was conducted at the Ashqelon marina (map ref. 15855/62089). The excavation, carried out by the Ashqelon Museum on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by J. Hevesi. The excavated site is located on a hill c. 200 m from the beach and overlooks it, about 20 m west of the Roman Tomb. The remains of a complex of structures, comprising four construction phases, were exposed.

The question I wish to raise is this. Is it correct to say that one of Plato’s achievements in this passage is the ‘discovery of the copula’, or the ‘recognition of ambiguity of ἔστιν’ as used on the one hand in statements of identity and on the other hand in attributive statements? I feel little doubt that it is correct to say this, but Cornford and Robinson (to mention no others) deny it.
