In 1962, an excavation was conducted in Kefar Shemaryahu (map ref. 1833/6773). The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by F. Berger. A complex of burial caves that was dated to the Roman and Byzantine periods was exposed.

How did Plotinus conceive of the relation existing between the human soul and the human body? Plato did not give the impression of being vitally concerned about this question. Although Plotinus professes to be a follower of Plato, he is much more profoundly influenced in this instance by Aristotle. Besides owing much to Aristotle, Plotinus' account of sensation, pleasure and pain, and the emotions in general clearly shows the influence of the medical theories of Galen.

Plotinus' belief in reincarnation shows the more Platonic strain in his approach to the body-soul problem.

A medieval poem of 1045 lines telling of a knight who loses status and wealth and who meets a beautiful woman who gives him love and wealth as long as he keeps her existence a secret. The motif of the lover’s prohibition appears in several medieval texts, and MacDonald makes use of this motif in this chapter.

In November 1960, a trial excavation was conducted in Tel Erani, near Qiryat Gat, in an area designated for the textile industry (map ref. unknown). The excavation was directed by E. Yeivin. Two channels were excavated, in which walls and building remains were discovered. The excavator noted that the finds in the excavation were very poor, and consisted of few fragments of pottery and glass, only some of which were diagnostic. These meager finds were dated to the Byzantine period, and possibly to beginning of the Early Islamic period according to the excavator. Additional pottery sherds that were dated to …
