Millennials And Fasting: A Healthy Alternative, Christopher M. Hunt
Millennials And Fasting: A Healthy Alternative, Christopher M. Hunt
Masters Theses
Millennials are facing more chronic health problems than any previous generation. They are experiencing a higher rate of disease for all the top conditions that affected their predecessors at the same age range. Most of these issues stem from an overconsumption culture that drastically increased during the millennial generation and is only projected to worsen. These habits start from a young age when the youth are taught to finish eating everything on their plate, even if they are not hungry, and consume at least three meals a day, which is seen as a mandatory requirement for a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, …
The Decline Of Mentorship And The Urgency To Share Valuable Knowledge With The Next Generation, Morgan Christopher
The Decline Of Mentorship And The Urgency To Share Valuable Knowledge With The Next Generation, Morgan Christopher
Masters Theses
Senior mentorship of junior professionals is in decline, risking the loss of generational guidance and support, limiting career opportunities, and hindering social and professional development for both parties.
The thesis discusses the definition of a mentor and types of mentor relationships, the benefits of participating in a mentor relationship, and the influence junior professionals have on these relationships. However, extensive research is lacking in determining the practical steps senior professionals can take to reverse the decline of mentorship and bring our society back to the mentoring mindset we once possessed.
The topics that have been examined are as follows:
- What …

Embracing Positivity: Using The Power Of Positivity To Enhance Design Classroom Critiques To Encourage Students To Feel Empowered As Artists, Angela M. Keeler Reeves
Masters Theses
While ample research and ways to handle an artistic critique exist, there is not enough that is created in conjunction with visuals to help and empower our art faculty. As a graphic design instructor at a regional university, I struggle every day to make sure that my students end not only becoming better designers, but also understanding that critique is about making them better and not meant to tear them down. My graphic design professors varied in technique when it came to the critique process and caused quite a bit of emotional distress on a young growing design student. I …

Wellness Awakening: Gen Z As The Catalyst For A Well-Being Revolution, Juliet Milillo
Masters Theses
This research project delves into the realm of holistic wellness management with a specific focus on engaging Generation Z (Gen Z). Holistic wellness encompasses a comprehensive approach to health and well-being considering physical, emotional, spiritual, social, occupational, and intellectual aspects. Members of Gen Z who are currently in college or recently graduated are the ideal candidates for holistic wellness management education as they are at the prime age to begin establishing long-term habits and lifestyles. Individuals in this age group are settling into their occupations, housing conditions, relationships, exercise patterns, nutritional habits, etc. The study employed a mixed-methods approach. It …

Persistent Luminescent Nanoparticle-Loaded Filaments For Identification Of Fabrics In The Visible And Infrared, Brian Yust, Abdur Rahaman Sk, Antonios Kontsos, Brian George
College of Humanities and Sciences Faculty Papers
Persistent luminescent materials are those which can store an amount of energy locally and release it slowly in the form of light. In this work, persistent luminescent nanoparticles (PLNPs) were synthesized and incorporated into polypropylene (PP) filaments at various loading percentages. We investigated the optical properties of both the as-prepared PLNPs and the PLNP-loaded filaments, focusing on any changes resulting from the integration into the filaments. Specifically, visible and near-infrared spectroscopy were used to analyze the emission, excitation, and persistent luminescence of the PLNPs and PLNP-loaded filaments. The tensile properties of the extruded filaments were also investigated through breaking tenacity, …
Enhancing User Experience In Small Academic Libraries: Leveraging Matomo Analytics As A Ux Design Tool, Michael D. Wells
Enhancing User Experience In Small Academic Libraries: Leveraging Matomo Analytics As A Ux Design Tool, Michael D. Wells
The Christian Librarian
As changes have occurred with Google Analytics over the past two years, web design professionals have sought alternative platforms to gain valuable insight on how users are interacting with online content. Academic libraries are no different in their desire to assess user interaction and behavior within their online platforms. In 2019, the Benedictine Library at Thomas More University transitioned to using Matomo Analytics out of a desire to find a low-cost and privacy-centric alternative to Google Analytics. While serving as the Library Director at Thomas More University from 2018 to 2021 and then as the Library Director at Wilmington College …

STEM for Success Resources

Theme Story - A Wave Of Virtual Products Is Sweeping The Globe How It Could Redefine The Future Of The Film And Television Industry
SIGNED: The Magazine of The Hong Kong Design Institute
Since its inception, the film and television media has existed squarely at the juncture of art and technology. Media forms like music videos, streaming services and even blockbuster Hollywood films have exemplified this inextricable link. In the past three to four years, though, virtual productions have swept through the world and have been described by insiders in the United States and Europe as marking a "point of no return" for the overall industry due to their real-time ability to produce special effects content. Such technology is gaining momentum in Hong Kong too. In March 2024, an international-level professional virtual production …

Archiving The Ephemeral In Digital Public Space: Using Speculative Design To Consider Collaborative Fan Play In The Metaverse, Naomi Jacobs
Archiving The Ephemeral In Digital Public Space: Using Speculative Design To Consider Collaborative Fan Play In The Metaverse, Naomi Jacobs
Proceedings from the Document Academy
Looking at fan activity through the lens of play, this paper considers the archiving opportunities and challenges posed by new technology for playful ephemeral fan co-creation in multiplatform digital contexts. These include technical concerns such as platform fragility and how to capture inherent liveness and temporality, but also ethical concerns such as sustainability, consent and content moderation.
To examine this, the paper takes fan-created alternate reality games (ARGs) as a particular example of such archiving challenges. It first describes a real example of such a game, ‘Blow the Man Down’ before introducing speculative design as a method to consider a …

Uncanny Bodies, Samantha Neu
Uncanny Bodies, Samantha Neu
MFA in Visual Art
In “Uncanny Bodies,” unseemly bits are revealed, sensibilities are questioned, and solid ground morphs into shaky mounds. I delve into how the uncanny challenges traditional views and societal norms about the body. My artwork emphasizes the fluid and often unsettling experiences of physical existence, blurring the boundaries between personal and collective perceptions. Through distortions and manipulation of scale, the familiar is rendered alien in my sculptures, prints, and paintings. Through this ambiguity, I hope to offer space for the viewer to navigate their body’s emotional and physical relationship to the unknown.

Graduate School of Art Theses
I am a sculptor that uses site reactive interactions, video documentation, and studio-based processes to explore landscape. I investigate my multifaceted relationship of self to my sensorial memory of landscape. Through themes of memory, loss and longing intertwined with my personal connection to water. I identify the intersections of sculpture and landscape seeking ways in which environments shapes decisions in the making process.
Through case studies of two distinct landscapes, Malaki and Tyson, I look at how these environments serve as sources of inspiration and material for experimentation. By identifying the ways in which I researched at each site respectively …
