Are All Good Soldiers Created Equal? Examining The "Why" That Underlies Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Development Of An Ocb Motives Scale, Anna Lissa Tolentino Mar 2009

Are All Good Soldiers Created Equal? Examining The "Why" That Underlies Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Development Of An Ocb Motives Scale, Anna Lissa Tolentino

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Traditionally, organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) have been conceptualized within a social exchange framework, implying that individuals perform citizenship behaviors in response to fair treatment by the organization (Zellars & Tepper, 2003). In accordance with this social exchange framework, researchers have identified a number of OCB antecedents, like perceived organizational support (Moorman, Blakely, & Niehoff, 1998; Settoon, Bennet, & Liden, 1996), job satisfaction, organizational commitment, organizational justice (LePine, Erez, & Johnson, 2002; Organ & Ryan, 1995), and leader-member exchange (Connell, 2005; Settoon, Bennett, & Liden, 1996; Wayne & Greene, 1993). Recently, however, research has shifted from viewing OCB as a reactionary …

Speaking Of Myself: Independence, Self-Representation, And The Speeches Of Rudyard Kipling, Jacob M. Wilkes Mar 2009

Speaking Of Myself: Independence, Self-Representation, And The Speeches Of Rudyard Kipling, Jacob M. Wilkes

Theses and Dissertations

Rudyard Kipling is a man of immense diversity. He successfully managed to write for over half a century in a variety of genres: short story, travelogue, ballad, personal narrative, and news reporting, to name only a few. While doing so, Kipling readily interacted with a range of subjects and created a multitude of ideas. Likewise, on a personal level, Kipling led an immensely diverse life. He could easily claim four separate continents as home, living variously in India, the United States, England, and South Africa. By profession he was a writer, but as an observer he was so skilled that …

On Contemporary China

China Beat Blog: Archive 2008-2012

(In 75 minutes)

It’s no small task to sum up the work of 53 separate authors but I gave it a go last Friday at the Virginia Festival of the Book when I spoke about China in 2008. I shared the stage (and live C-Span connection) with Susan Brownell (who gave a fascinating presentation on the Beijing Olympics and Olympic education in the Chinese schools) and our moderator, UVA professor of politics Brantly Womack. The session turned into a lively discussion with the audience of about 45 about how we can find ways to more accurately represent (and then hopefully …

Fundamental Investigations On Open-Framework Intermetallic Materials Of Group 14, Matthew K. Beekman

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Crystalline open-framework intermetallics have long attracted the attention of chemists, physicists, and materials scientists. The intriguing structures such materials exhibit are often intimately related to the unique physical properties they possess. The present work is focused on the preparation and characterization of open-framework intermetallic materials based on group 14 elements, in particular those crystallizing in clathrate and related structures such as the clathrate-II phases. Materials possessing the clathrate-II crystal structure have received increased attention in recent years, as a result of both the unique properties they exhibit as well as potential for use in technologically important applications such as thermoelectrics, …

2-D Finite Element Modeling For Nanoindentation And Fracture Stress Analysis, Chi Chen Mar 2009

2-D Finite Element Modeling For Nanoindentation And Fracture Stress Analysis, Chi Chen

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In Chapter 1, a brief introduction of nanoindentation and finite element method is presented. General procedures have been developed based on FEM modeling of nanoindentation data to obtain the mechanical properties of thin films. Selected FEM models are illustrated in detail.

In Chapter 2, nanoindentation test is simulated using finite element method based on contact mechanics approach. The relationship between load and indentation depth is obtained. The numerical results show good agreement with experimental data. It is shown that FEM is an effective tool for simulation of nanoindentation tests of metallic films. However, limitations caused by simplification of models and …

Cooper-Hewitt Museum Of Design And Technology (C-Hmd+T): Biomimetic Architecture As Part Of Nature, Isabel Marisa Corsino Carro

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

If architects are to create a sustainable world, one in which we are accountable to the needs of all future generations and living creatures, we must recognize that our present form of designing buildings is deeply flawed. Being the number one cause of emission gases, building design needs to be revolutionized to be able to surpass such climatic changes and finally harmonize with nature. To create a sustainable future and solve the global warming crisis, architects need to incorporate nature within design through the process known as biomimicry. Janine Benyus, the author of Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature, stressed how …

Moment-Dependent Pseudo-Rigid-Body Models For Beam Deflection And Stiffness Kinematics And Elasticity, Diego Alejandro Espinosa Mar 2009

Moment-Dependent Pseudo-Rigid-Body Models For Beam Deflection And Stiffness Kinematics And Elasticity, Diego Alejandro Espinosa

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This thesis introduces a novel parametric beam model for describing the kinematics and elastic properties of ortho-planar compliant Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) with straight beams subject to specific buckling loads. Ortho-planar MEMS have the ability to achieve motion out the plane on which they were fabricated, characteristic that can be used to integrate optical devices such as variable optical attenuators and micro-mirrors. In addition, ortho-planar MEMS with large output forces and long strokes could be used to develop new applications such as tactile displays, active Braille, and actuation of micro-mirrors. In order to analyze the kinematics and elasticity of a curved …

Analysis Of Single Fiber Pushout Test Of Fiber Reinforced Composite With A Nonhomogeneous Interphase, Sri Harsha Garapati Mar 2009

Analysis Of Single Fiber Pushout Test Of Fiber Reinforced Composite With A Nonhomogeneous Interphase, Sri Harsha Garapati

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Fiber pushout test models are developed for a fiber-matrix-composite with a nonhomogeneous interphase. Using design of experiments, the effects of geometry, loading and material parameters on critical parameters of the pushout test such as the load-displacement curve and maximum interfacial shear and normal stresses are studied. The sensitivity analysis shows that initial load displacement curve is dependent only on the indenter type and not on parameters such as fiber volume fraction, interphase type, thickness of interphase, and boundary conditions. In contrast, interfacial shear stresses are not sensitive to indenter type, while the interfacial radial stresses are mainly sensitive to fiber …

Framework For Self Sustaining Eco-Village, Eric Holtgard Mar 2009

Framework For Self Sustaining Eco-Village, Eric Holtgard

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Why are modern American cities fundamentally dependant on outsourced resources and dirty power? Why can't modern cities support themselves and their inhabitants without relying on resources from half way across the world? Even within the city itself, community neighborhoods are disconnected and bisected by massive expanses of life endangering highways. Why can't we wake up and open our eyes to the urban reality we are creating for future generations. Future cities must look past immediate gain and focus on long term sustainability rather than compiling L.E.E.D. points or making a selfish profit.

Sustainable Infrastructure is the first step towards freeing …

Employee Commitment: The Combined Effects Of Bases And Foci, Meng Uoy Taing Mar 2009

Employee Commitment: The Combined Effects Of Bases And Foci, Meng Uoy Taing

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Recent studies indicate that employees distinguish between commitments to interpersonal foci within the organization, such as supervisors and coworkers. Often, these commitments account for variance in outcomes incremental to organizational commitment (e.g., Becker, 1992). Unfortunately, research has tended to focus on affective forms of commitment to foci, while ignoring normative and continuance commitment. To address this gap, the current study proposed and tested models of commitment to foci which incorporate normative and continuance commitment in addition to affective commitment. Results showed some parallels with findings concerning organizational commitment. Much like organizational commitment, support from a focus relates to affective commitment …

Work-Family Conflict, Eating Behaviors, And The Role Of Coping, Ashley G. Walvoord Mar 2009

Work-Family Conflict, Eating Behaviors, And The Role Of Coping, Ashley G. Walvoord

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

There were two primary aims of the present study. The first aim was to examine the relationships between work-interference-with-family (WIF) and specific eating behaviors (eating vegetables, fruits, snack foods) reported by employed mothers, as it relates to health criteria such as BMI. Related to this first aim, household coping strategies were proposed as playing a significant role in the relationship between WIF and eating behaviors. The second aim was to investigate the crossover of WIF to specific child eating behaviors via mother feeding practices or mother eating behaviors.

Self-report and other-report survey data were collected from working mothers and their …

Techniques For Vlsi Circuit Optimization Considering Process Variations, Mahalingam Venkataraman Mar 2009

Techniques For Vlsi Circuit Optimization Considering Process Variations, Mahalingam Venkataraman

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Technology scaling has increased the transistor's susceptibility to process variations in nanometer very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuits. The effects of such variations are having a huge impact on performance and hence the timing yield of the integrated circuits. The circuit optimization objectives namely power, area, and delay are highly correlated and conflicting in nature. The inception of variations in process parameters have made their relationship intricate and more difficult to optimize. Traditional deterministic methods ignoring variation effects negatively impacts timing yield. A pessimistic worst case consideration of variations, on the other hand, can lead to severe over design. In …
