Ecclesial Questions For The Global Community, Peter Santandreu
Ecclesial Questions For The Global Community, Peter Santandreu
Verbum
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"In recent times we, the church, are faced with the ever broadening scope of cultures related to Christianity. What it means to be “Christian” has come a long way from the W.A.S.P. profile that was previously a good cultural indicator. Now, as noted by Shenk, “60% of all Christians live outside of the traditional western heartland.”1 With this fact in mind, we have to ask ourselves two very important questions. How can the history of Christianity be represented in the most all-encompassing way, and what about the Christian …
"Breaking Ground" A Look At The Impact Of The Cappadocian Fathers On The Establishment Of The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit During The Transition Between The Council Of Nigeria (325) And The Council Of Constantinople (381)., Frederick J. Flo
Verbum
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"At the center of Christian dogma lies the worship of the Holy Trinity. Naturally, with every central focus comes controversy. Throughout history, the interpretation of the Trinity has created a tremendous amount of debate. Opposition to specific interpretation is expected as numerous philosophies are bound to rise due to the simple truth that the reality of God can never be fully comprehended by human efforts. Therefore, with the nature and essence of God being left for definition to a finite source, disagreements about the true nature of God are …

"The Life And Miracles Of Fisher Alumna Katie Kreutter, 2009", Katie Kreutter
Verbum
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"I still find it difficult to believe that I am writing this submission for Verbum as a Fisher alumnus, and that soon a full semester will have passed since I was enrolled as a full-time student. Looking back on my time at Fisher, I fondly recall courses and professors that positively impacted the quality of my educational experience, as well as clubs and students that similarly supported my social experience. While I do not consider myself to have any sage advice to offer current students, I will say that …

The Parent Child Connection, Aisha Arshad
Verbum
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"The parent and child relationship is a very unique and interesting one. It is also a topic that has been highly researched and written on. It is one that has puzzled many since such a relationship was first established and it has been exemplified time and time again in various religious texts. Why is this relationship so unique and different than others? Why is it one that demands so much attention? Why is it important enough to have religious significance in the Bible, the Quran, the Torah and many …
Facebook Interactions And Writing Skills Of Spanish Language Students, Windy Gonzalez Roberts
Facebook Interactions And Writing Skills Of Spanish Language Students, Windy Gonzalez Roberts
Spanish Publications
Facebook (www.facebook.com) is an online social-networking site used by many high school and college students today in their personal lives. This thesis reports on an exploratory study which investigated the possible increase in writing skills of Spanish language students from incorporating a Facebook component into an otherwise standard college course. Fourth semester college Spanish students were asked to complete weekly writing assignments in Facebook throughout the semester. Regular writing practice on varied topics in the familiar and informal environment of Facebook was expected to increase the language production and the writing skill of the students. The study had several components. …

Classification Of Urban Features Using Airborne Hyperspectral Data, Bharath Ganesh Babu
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Accurate mapping and modeling of urban environments are critical for their efficient and successful management. Superior understanding of complex urban environments is made possible by using modern geospatial technologies. This research focuses on thematic classification of urban land use and land cover (LULC) using 248 bands of 2.0 meter resolution hyperspectral data acquired from an airborne imaging spectrometer (AISA+) on 24th July 2006 in and near Terre Haute, Indiana. Three distinct study areas including two commercial classes, two residential classes, and two urban parks/recreational classes were selected for classification and analysis. Four commonly used classification methods – maximum likelihood (ML), …

Family Affairs newsletter (2004-2016)
FAMILY AFFAIRS was a free, twice-a-month, social activities newsletter for the GLBTQI (gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer/intersex) community, sent out around the 1st and 15th of each month. It covered the State of Maine only. The list was begun and maintained for many years by Jean Vermette in Bangor, and later operated by Zack Paakkonen of Portland. Over the years it evolved from a social activities newsletter into a business directory, classified ad service, and community bulletin board.

The Flames Of Namugongo: Issues Around Theological Narrativity, Heteronormativity, Globalization, And Aids In Africa, Ken Hamilton S.V.D
Journal of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium
Hamilton’s paper, delivered during the 2008 Annual Meeting in Chicago, uses the hagiography of Charles Lwanga and the Martyrs of Uganda to reveal an unrelenting problem of the Church – the ways in which the assumptions of heternormativity and sodomitical discourse drown out the voices of those who do not fall into heteronormative sexual and/or gendered identities, and lead to the open persecution, imprisonment, and torture of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons in Uganda, and in fact all over Africa. Casting those with ‘othered’ sexual identities as evil, or even simply turning a deaf ear to the persecution faced …
Ecological Explanation Between Manipulation And Mechanism Description, Viorel Pâslaru
Ecological Explanation Between Manipulation And Mechanism Description, Viorel Pâslaru
Philosophy Faculty Publications
James Woodward offers a conception of explanation and mechanism in terms of interventionist counterfactuals. Based on a case from ecology, I show that ecologists’ approach to that case satisfiesWoodward’s conditions for explanation and mechanism, but his conception does not fully capture what ecologists view as explanatory. The new mechanistic philosophy likewise aims to describe central aspects of mechanisms, but I show that it is not sufficient to account for ecological mechanisms. I argue that in ecology explanation involves identification of invariant and insensitive causal relationships and descriptions of the mechanistic characteristics that make these relations possible.

Théâtres Du Roman : Les Scènes De L’Écriture Francophone, Sélom Komlan Gbanou
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
The present analysis proposes to show how, with a large number of authors, writing becomes an important stage of the imaginary space of the novel, of the configuration of the narrative and the characters, as well as the language. In the field of narrative imaginary, novel and theatre go together, complete each other in order to convert the process of writing into a game where the pleasure of the writer encounters that of the reader, this spectator of the literary scene.
Le Roman Africain : Drame Or Histoire, Bernard Mouralis
Le Roman Africain : Drame Or Histoire, Bernard Mouralis
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
For a long time, African novelists claimed filiation with realism. But there is in realism a deep contradiction between the will of describing the social world and the will of changing it. From this contradiction, the paper studies : the relation between theatre and novel ; the question of citizenship in the novel ; the place of the novel in front of knowledge and action. The novel shows dynamics and characters living in the time. So, it tends to wander from the principle of knowledge and self-consciousness.

De La Parole Poétique À La Parole Politique Dans Les Oeuvres Théâtrales D’Aimé Césaire Et De Sony Labou Tansi, Virginie Darriet-Féréol

Aimé Césaire and Sony Labou Tansi wished for acting and voicing for their people both on the political and literary level. By choosing the drama, they presented the language. By creating a new language, a new literature, a new artistic aesthetics, consequently a new trend of thinking, their writing served policy.

Le Théâtre Amateur Marocain. Trajectoire D’Un Théâtre Alternatif, Omar Fertat
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
Modern Moroccan theatre was born with non-professional artists and has remained intimately linked to this milieu. Unlike professional playwrights, non-professional artists have never bowed to the demands of political authorities, whether it be the French administration or the local Makhzen. They used this artistic medium as a forum for debate and resistance against the oppressor. This freedom of expression operated not just at the political level but also at the aesthetic level. Since non-professionals were not constrained by the need to please an audience fond of social comedies and melodramas, they could explore more risky avant-garde paths. In spite of …

Poésie Et Engagement Dans Vous N’Êtes Pas Seul De Gérard Étienne, Simone Grossman
Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
This article addresses the terms of commitment in Vous n’êtes pas seul by Gérard Étienne. For one part, the representation of the poet-and-tramp pertains to a first type of ideological commitment. For the second part, the study of oxymorons and references to Baudelaire will lead to a definition of another commitment of poetry in the novel as a counter-discourse for the victims of social exclusion.

A Year Of Extremes, Kimberly Flint-Hamilton
A Year Of Extremes, Kimberly Flint-Hamilton
Journal of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium
What an incredible year! A year of almost inconceivable highs, and lows that bore down into our very beings, the time since we met last October has filled us with high hopes as well as dark fears. These conflicted realities are reflected both in our lives and in our work. For most BCTS members, indeed, for most Americans, the election of our first African American president was one of the most significant moments of our lives. I’ll never forget when Obama was declared victor shortly after 11:00 pm EST on November 4, 2008. As late as it was, I picked …

Extended Portraits, Matthew W. Schmitz
Extended Portraits, Matthew W. Schmitz
Art and Design
For my senior project, I wanted to do something photographically diverse and creative with the classmates of my major. I decided the focus of my project would be portraits and interviews documenting the experiences of those classmates; who they were as people and why they picked Cal Poly as their school. I researched various forms of portraiture and gathered those ideas and various questions to help flesh out my concept. My photo shoots experimented in various forms of alternative portraiture, accompanied with an answered questionnaire filled out by each of them. I wanted the finished product to be well laid …
