Abstract ̶ This paper discusses Building Information Modelling (BIM), notably the 5th Dimension of BIM, which covers cost management functionality in the BIM workflow. The research proposes an efficient digitised workflow that can facilitate the appendage of an International Quantity Surveying (QS) Cost Code to a consistent parameter in the objects of the model. This paper firstly outlines how QSs are currently inserting ‘user defined’ information by adding their cost Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to an existing parameter, such as the ‘keynote’ or ‘assembly code’. Diversity in the managerial workforce in construction is limited, with a shortage of talent in the industry and the demand projected to grow over the next ten years. The challenge of attracting and retaining managerial talent is exacerbated for trade contractors as they have historically promoted management from the trades. This study explored differences, based on ethnicity, when it comes to factors that attract and retain managerial talent in electrical construction. BIM models are tools that help stakeholders perform a variety of functions including communication, visualization, trade coordination, and clash detection. Many model users lack confidence that a model, typically created by a third party, has accurate enough information in it to rely on the data for planning the project. This paper outlines a two phase experiment evaluating the accuracy of volumetric calculations using a commercially available drone and structure-from-motion (SfM) software. In the first phase, a large cardboard pyramid with a known volume was used to simulate a stockpile. Using georeferenced images collected by a Phantom 4 Pro drone and the SfM software ContextCapture, the computed volumes ranged between 1.5% and 3.3% of the actual volume. In the second phase of the experiment, a photometric survey was created of a large SCDOT borrow pit. Construction workers are exposed to extreme conditions over a large portion of the work day during the different seasons of the year when working on construction sites. Some studies have discussed the effect of seasonal timing of work-related injuries and concluded that more injuries occur during the summer months [1]. Other studies concluded that accidents are more likely to occur during rainy seasons [2]. Construction accidents data from 2004 to 2011 were obtained from the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI). Leadership is a dynamic process in which an individual influence other to contribute to the achievement of an assigned task. This paper investigates leadership behaviour and its impact on construction workers’ performance in Lagos, Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was adopted to select 50 site-supervisors and 250 construction-workers involved in simple construction works. An investigation was carried out using a questionnaire survey method. The leadership variables investigated were ranked, regressed and correlated to workers performance. From the primary data analysis, leadership behaviour exhibited by supervisors were found to influence the site workers commitment to achieving the goal of the construction projects. …

The U.S. workforce is increasingly comprised of older adults, women, and minorities who lack basic skills and are unable to acquire these skills through traditional educational and training programs. Our team’s primary objective was to rejuvenate the structure and once again make it a priority destination for the public when visiting the Experimental Structures Laboratory. In particular, it is crucial for workers’ safety to prepare emergency evacuation paths according to changing construction site configurations and construction progress. This demonstration is addressed to Irish students taking measurement or quantities modules at first year or entry level of quantity surveying related programmes.

The worked example has been carried out using traditional handwritten quantity surveying processes on traditional dimension paper. It is acknowledged that, in actual practice, this would be carried out using measurement software or on-screen measurement technology.
