Analysis Of Biomass Briquette Mixed Bagasse And Sugarcane Peel On The Performance Of Forced Top-Lit Updraft Gasifier Stove, Intan Hardiatama, Aron Enruico, Yuni Hermawan, Muhammad Trifiananto, Skriptyan N.H. Syuhri

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

The population growth in Indonesia from 270 million in 2020 to 279 million in 2024 has increased LPG consumption, potentially leading to future fuel shortages. The top-lit updraft (TLUD) gasifier stove using renewable biomass materials, offers a sustainable alternative. Biomass such as bagasse and sugarcane peel can be optimized into charcoal briquettes with high calorific value and low emissions. The calorific value of briquettes can be further enhanced by blending other high–calorific biomass materials. This experimental research focuses on testing the calorific value of raw bagasse and sugarcane peel before carbonization, as well as briquette mixtures (70:30, 50:50, 30:70) using …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

Water quality is an important factor in aquaculture activities, including goldfish (Carassius auratus) farming. One approach to improving water quality is the use of nanofilters. This study aims to evaluate the performance of nanofilters made from Sargassum sp. with the addition of copper oxide nanoparticles. The method used involves the fermentation of bacterial cellulose from Acetobacter xylinum using Sargassum sp. extract as a medium, followed by homogenization and the addition of CuO-NPs at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%, and subsequent oven drying. The nanofilter membrane will then be analyzed using SEM, XRD, and FTIR to characterize its properties. Performance …

The Potential Of Ramie Fiber As Reinforcement In Calcium Carbonate-Filled Polyester Resin Matrix Composites For Roofing Applications, Reinaldo Reinaldo, Djoko Setyanto

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

Polymer matrix composite roofing materials available in the Indonesian market typically consist of 30%wt chopped strand mat glass fiber embedded in unsaturated polyester resin, filled with 30 parts per hundred resin (PHR) calcium carbonate. The aim of this research is to evaluate whether natural ramie fibers can potentially replace glass fibers. In the first stage of the study, we compared three types of natural fibers abundant in Indonesia: banana stem fibers, sugarcane bagasse, and ramie. Showed that ramie fiber performed the best. Its flexural strength, flexural modulus, and impact toughness were the highest, measured at 191.57 MPa, 6691 MPa, and …

One common bio-ceramic material used in the biomedical industry is hydroxyapatite. Because of its crystallographic and molecular resemblance to the hard tissues of the human body, hydroxyapatite is thought to form. Scallop shells are one natural source of hydroxyapatite, which is high in calcium. This study examines how the calcination temperature affects the characteristics of hydroxyapatite made from leftover scallop shell. Hydroxyapatite was synthesized via the sonochemical method, with calcination conducted at temperatures of 900°C, 1000°C, and 1100°C. The hydroxyapatite that was prepared was assessed using Xray diffraction (XRD) to determine the phase and crystallite size, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) …

Porous carbon derived from banana peel has been synthesized by increasing the temperature range variation from 180 oC - 270 oC. The prepared carbon was tested in an experiment using double-chamber photoelectrochemistry to see the results of hydrogen production. SEM-EDX, FTIR, and TGA analyses identified all banana peel carbons. Optical and electrochemical properties were analyzed and measured by UV-Vis, Tauc Relationship, and Pearson Absolute Electronegativity. The amount of hydrogen gas produced from the simulation of UV-A visible light irradiation on variations of BP-240, BP-210, BP-180, and BPNatural. The surface of BP-270 has more pores and can produce the most significant …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

Cranioplasty is required for patients with head defects, where the deformed part of the head is replaced with Ti6Al4V titanium wire implants. The titanium wire forming process is usually done manually, which can take a long time and give results that do not match the anatomical shape of the head. Therefore, it is important to develop domestic technology that can produce titanium wire automatically. This study aims to analyze the frame and mold of the automatic wire mesh molding machine before production. The tool is made using press forming method and finite element analysis with ANSYS software. The machine frame …

Tactical Activities To Improve The Effectiveness Of Concrete Batching Plant Based On Overall Equipment Effectiveness Analysis, Yurida Ekawati, Iddo Christian Sutrisno, Teguh Oktiarso

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

The growth of infrastructure projects has led to an increased demand for ready-mix concrete. A company that produces ready-mix concrete using a batching plant encountered difficulties in fulfilling customer orders due to the high rate of machine downtime. Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) was employed to examine these issues at the tactical activities, where the root causes of losses that occur in the OEE components of availability, performance, and quality were addressed. The OEE analysis was extended to encompass maintenance effectiveness measures, as the anticipated solution to the problem was not the replacement of the machine, but rather an enhancement of …

Aqueous Supercapacitors With Wide Operative Voltage Window And Long Cycling Life Enabled By Electrolyte Hybridization Effect, Shi-Hua Ma, Qi Yin, Jin-Ping Zhao

Journal of Electrochemistry

Developing supercapacitors (SCs) with long cycling life and wide operative voltage window is a significant topic in the field of aqueous electrolytes. Although the design of water in salt (WIS) electrolytes has pushed the development of aqueous electrolytes to a new height, the WIS electrolytes with an operative voltage window of up to 2.5 V is still very scarce. Herein, in order to enrich the type of aqueous electrolyte with high operative voltage, tetramethylammonium trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMAOTf) based WIS electrolyte was used as a model to construct WIS based hybrid electrolyte with acetonitrile (ACN) co-solvent and LiTFSI co-solute. In view of …

Development Of Machine Learning-Based Tool For Prediction Of Long-Term Field Performance Of Asphalt Concrete Overlays In A Hot And Humid Climate, Elise Mansour

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The performance of pavement plays a critical role in Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (MR&R) for highway agencies. Reliable and accurate estimation of pavement performance can be instrumental in prioritization of the limited resources and funding for highway agencies. The latter requires robust prediction models that can handle large-scale, real-world data and can forecast pavement performance in the long run. Unfortunately, the traditional performance prediction models have raised concerns regarding their efficiency and accuracy. It is because these models were based on a limited number of explanatory variables, were not up-to-date and were designed for forecasting short-term (up to five years) …
