The greatest thing that vaudeville contributed to the legitimate theatre and to films was talented artists. Many performers who became well known on the stage and screen began in vaudeville. It even occurred that performers with hardly any training at all had an opportunity to perform on vaudeville, and after some time became some of the best performers America has seen. Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film: Faculty Publications and Creative Activity

Heinrich Conried was the most significant actor-director-manager the German theatre in the United States ever produced. In a career that spanned over three decades in theatres from the Bowery to the Metropolitan Opera Company, few individuals–regardless of the language in which they worked–matched his remarkable achievements. Beginning as an actor and Oberspielleiter in 1878, Conried worked in various professional New York venues continuously until his untimely death in 1909, and during that time there were only five years in which he did not work exclusively in the German language–and those five years were the ones he ran the Metropolitan Opera.

In the Middle Ages, articulating religious figures like wooden Deposition crucifixes and ambulatory saints were tools for devotion, techno-mythological objects that distilled the wonders of engineering and holiness. Robots are gestures toward immortality, created in the face of the undeniable fact and experience of the ongoing decay of our fleshy bodies. Both like and unlike human beings, robots and androids occupy a nebulous perceptual realm between life and death, animation and inanimation. Anarchist Strategy And Visual Rhetoric In Brazil, 1970: The Living Theatre As “The People In The Street”, Chelsea R. Roberts

The dominant narrative of the Living Theatre, an anarchist-pacifist, activist performance group, situates the company within a historical framework of the "New Left". Implications of this strategy are identified and critiqued. Both due to the simplification of historical time periods between the fields of theatre and politics, or "periodization" (Postlewait), and because of the ways in which the "New Left" is identified as overtly American in much theatre scholarship, historicizing the Living Theatre as "in-line" with the New Left has resulted in the erasure of the Living Theatre's founding philosophies of anarchism and pacifism.
