The City of Leander contracted HDR Engineering, Inc. (HDR) to conduct an intensive cultural resources survey in advance of proposed road improvements to Hero Way (Old FM 2243) in the City of Leander, Williamson County, Texas. The project consists of the renovation of 2.7 miles of roadway with an Area of Potential Effects (APE) that includes approximately 1.9 miles of new linear Right-of-Way (ROW) and 3.1 acres of non-linear APE. The archaeological investigation conducted by HDR consisted of intensive survey of the APE to determine the presence/absence of archaeological resources by employing pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and photo documentation. In July and August of 2014, under Texas Antiquities Permit #6914, Hicks & Company completed an intensive archeological survey of the Alazan Creek and Martinez Creek Hike and Bike Trail Improvements Project in Bexar County, Texas. Since construction of the new trails and park improvements will take place on land to be owned by the City of San Antonio, it is subject to the Antiquities Code of Texas. Additionally, the project will require permit coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, necessitating compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.

In conjunction with the proposed construction of the southwest segment of State Highway 45 in southern Travis County, the Texas Department of Transportation sponsored archeological testing and data recovery efforts at the Ransom Williams farmstead. Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an interdisciplinary community-based historic archeological study of the farmstead from 2005 through 2011. Extensive archival research reveals that the 45-acre farm was owned and occupied by Ransom Williams and his wife Sarah, both former slaves, from about 1871 to ca. 1905. The Williams family lived in the predominantly white rural community of Bear Creek, but they had connections to the …

An intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within the footprint of improvements to Farm-to-Market (FM) 2001 in Hays and Caldwell Counties, Texas. The archeological area of potential effects (APE) totals 8.5 miles (13.7 kilometers), extending from the intersection of Interstate Highway 35 (I-35) and FM 2001 to just east of State Highway (SH) 21 (CSJ 1776-01-018). Fieldwork was conducted on July 2-3, 7-8, and August 5, 2014 under Antiquities Permit 6936. In October 2014, an intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within the footprint of proposed road widening along Fairgrounds Road between Loop 250 and Pecan Avenue in northeast Midland, Midland County, Texas. The archeological area of potential effects (APE) is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of existing and additional proposed right-of-way. At the time of this investigation, a preferred alignment was still under consideration. Therefore, the entire proposed and existing right-of-way for all alternative alignments was surveyed. Melissa M. Green (Principal Investigator) and Bill Bond of Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting, Inc. (CMEC) carried out the survey for Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. Hicks & Company archaeologists, working on behalf of Travis County, recently conducted an archaeological survey for the proposed Cameron Road Improvements Project from Gregg Lane to State Highway (SH) 130, in Travis County, Texas (Figure 1). According to current design plans, the existing two-lane road is to be expanded to a four-lane arterial road. The existing roadway is an undivided facility with one travel lane in each direction and no shoulders. The proposed project would construct two 3.50 meter (11 feet) wide lanes in each direction, bike lanes, concrete curbs and gutters, and sidewalks on both sides of the road. …

On December 3, 2014, an archeologist with Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an intensive archeological survey of two parcels totaling 13.5 acres in Round Rock in southern Williamson County, Texas. The survey was completed prior to proposed residential development on Lots 3 and 6 in Turtle Creek Village, just west of A. W. Grimes Boulevard.

The survey found that the project area has been extensively disturbed by cultivation, erosion, earthmoving, and the channelization of Dry Branch Creek, which bisects the project area.
