The Information Commons: New Pathways To Digital Resources And Knowledge Management, Robert A. Seal
Robert A Seal
No longer an innovation, the information commons has become a mainstream approach in U.S. academic libraries for providing convenient access to technology and online resources, the first step for many university students in their own knowledge management. From the very basic model of a well-equipped computer lab to more elaborate projects involving multiple campus departments, extensive digital resources, and spaces for knowledge creation, the information commons can facilitate the integration of the college and university library into the academic learning process. After a brief overview of the changing library environment, the paper provides a look at the various models and …

Using Teaching Faculty Focus Groups To Assess Information Literacy Core Competencies At University Level, Jodi Tyron, Emily Elizabeth Frigo, Mary Kathleen O'Kelly
Mary Kathleen O'Kelly
Grand Valley State University librarians designed and conducted teaching faculty1 focus groups to gauge their response to a new information literacy (IL) core student competencies document created to support a developing library IL programme. Although the competencies were inspired by existing, widely known information literacy standards and guidelines the University Libraries’ Information Literacy Competencies document (ILCC) is unique and written specifically to address the university’s culture and curriculum. The authors of this paper formed a research team to assemble two groups of teaching faculty from various disciplines and to analyse focus group transcripts using a content analysis approach. The resulting …

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research
The focus of research libraries is changing to include digital resources, improving the information literacy level of patrons, and creating new partnerships on and off campus, among other things. This creates a need to recruit librarians trained in these areas and open to these changes. Library science training is a necessary foundation for preparing graduates to qualify for and excel in changing and emerging new roles. This article explores current recruitment efforts to articulate new roles and to successfully hire graduates with the skills and aptitude to fill them.

Using The Community Information Format To Create Public Service Resource Network, 2012 University of Maine - Main
Using The Community Information Format To Create Public Service Resource Network, Marilyn Lutz, Sharon Quinn Fitzgerald, Thomas Zantow
Sharon Q Fitzgerald
The University of Maine public service resource network is a database that identifies faculty members who consult in their areas of expertise. The network was developed using the USMARC Community Information Format. A persistent problem in developing a workable interface between university resources and community needs, until recently, has been the issue of access, and the barriers that flow from isolation and unfamiliarity. Electronic information technologies are breaking down these barriers and have emerged as the mechanism for networking academic expertise within the university itself and linking that expertise with society at large.

For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
