Finding a position in an academic library can be challenging for recent Library and Information Science (LIS) graduates. While LIS students are often encouraged to seek out experience, network, and improve upon their technology skills in hopes of better improving their odds in the job market, little research exists to support this anecdotal advice. This study quantifies the academic and work experiences of recent LIS graduates in order to provide a better understanding of what factors most significantly influence the outcome of their academic library job searches. A Statewide Survey Of Censorship And Intellectual Freedom, Kathleen M. Monks, Anne M. Gaines, Caitlin A. Marineau

This article presents the results of a survey given to public and school library workers to gain a foundational understanding of censorship within the state of Idaho. Our population was asked questions regarding position demographics; experience with challenges; the tracking, reporting and assistance sought; and the contents of said challenge policies. Special attention was also given to the history of censorship, both nationally and statewide, and the demographic, political, and legislative characteristics of Idaho, to provide a conceptual framework for the findings. The results of this statewide survey address an important and uninvestigated segment of national challenges and Idaho librarianship.

Experience Of Internet Utilization By Post Graduate Students At Nishter Medical College, Multan, Pakistan, Rubina Bhatti, Muhammad Waqas Javed

This study reports the Internet usage, purposes, difficulties while using internet by the Post Graduate Sstudnets at Nishtar Medical College (NMC), Multan and also identifies the usage of different health related websites and databases to supplement learning by PGS. This study is based on comprehensive literature review and pre-tested questionnaire that was distributed among 210 PGS. The response rate was very satisfactory 85%. The collected data was finally analyzed by using SPSS version 17. The results show that 33(18.5%) were female and 145(81.5%) male in total 178 respondents. The Conversion Of Marc Metadata For Online Visual Resource Collections: A Case Study Of Tactics, Challenges And Results, Brighid Mooney Gonzales

With a great deal of legacy metadata currently existing in the increasingly outdated MARC format, many institutions are searching for efficient ways to convert this data into formats that are more current, extensible and suitable for the description of digital and non-print materials. In this study, a group of digitized photographs from a Library of Congress collection with MARC records available is converted into a set of Dublin Core records to document the process involved in such a conversion. Successful tactics used, challenges encountered and the overall results of the conversion process are detailed.

My focus is on the importance of using a wide variety of resources -- interdisciplinary databases, full text journal resources, archives and specialized music collections -- to piece together a picture of the role of women the early years of folk music scholarship, and in the preservation and documentation of Irish traditional music.
