[First paragraph] A Composite Memento is an archived representation of a web page with all the page requisites such as images and stylesheets. All embedded resources have their own URIs, hence, they are archived independently. For a meaningful archival replay, it is important to load all the page requisites from the archive within the temporal neighborhood of the base HTML page. To achieve this goal, archival replay systems try to rewrite all the resource references to appropriate archived versions before serving HTML, CSS, or JS. However, an effective server-side URL rewriting is difficult when URLs are generated dynamically using JavaScript. …

The Austin Archives Bazaar (AAB) is a biennial, multi-institutional, community outreach event organized by the Archivists of Central Texas (ACT), an all-volunteer group of archivists in Austin, Texas. It is designed to be free, fun, and appealing to the general public, including folks who may not even know exactly what an archives is. This paper looks at the planning and execution of the 2016 Bazaar and reflects back on how it built on lessons learned in 2014 with a focus on issues of governance, fundraising, publicity, logistics, and the participating repository perspective. Painless Portal Partnerships: Collaboration And Its Challenges For Small Organizations, Christine Mcevilly

This article addresses challenges inherent in collaborative archival projects involving both large institutions and small historical societies. It identifies these unique problems and outlines potential solutions to overcome these issues. Examples are drawn from the Portal to American Jewish History project and contextualized within the professional literature on ethnic or community archives and archival collaboration. This project collected metadata from a wide range of Jewish history archives and aggregated the records in a single searchable website.

Improving Search Ranking Using A Composite Scoring Approach, Larry D. Snedden

In this thesis, the improvement to relevance in computerized search results is studied. Information search tools return ranked lists of documents ordered by the relevance of the documents to the user supplied search. Using a small number of words and phrases to represent complex ideas and concepts causes user search queries to be information sparse. This sparsity challenges search tools to locate relevant documents for users. A review of the challenges to information searches helps to identify the problems and offer suggestions in improving current information search tools. When presenting your institution’s films on the web, you face a host of decisions: what formats should you use? which internet host sites will best serve your needs? should you apply institution logos/identifiers? what about web address redirects?

This discussion, which encourages audience participation, will address these concerns and more, include uploading mystery footage to help identify locations and people, employing on-screen timecodes to ensure accurate feedback, and searching out additional, even undiscovered, material to enhance the film’s context, such as diaries, scripts, and still photos.

This study is a content analysis of a collection of several hundred Army manuals published by the War Department, the precursor of the United States Department of Defense (U.S. War Department, 2013). The manuals were in varying conditions, address a variety of topics, and were published in years surrounding and during World War II.

Since the end of the Second World War some 70 years ago, research and scholarship featuring wartime contributions of the average British citizenhasfocused largely on men's experiences of combat, the various roles of government agencies, or the assumed viability and tenacity of political and military leaders. The role of gender in the experience of war was often a side-note, not a focus of research. Since the 1960s, and more frequently since the late 1980s, a new wartime perspective has begun to be documented and explored in academic and literary scholarship - that of British women.

With the passing of the USA Patriot Act in 2001 following the events of 9/11, libraries on the national scale have had to staunchly defend issues of privacy and confidentially more-so than ever before. Evidence of this lies not only in statements within the ALA’s Resolution on the USA PATRIOT Act and Libraries but also in other core documents which guide policy development in public libraries (ALA 2005). Intellectual Freedom and privacy are two of the major issues addressed and protected by the American Library Association through the Office of Intellectual Freedom and the Library Bill of Rights (ALA 1996).

Many institutions with institutional repositories have had difficulty getting faculty buy-in to add their content to the institutional repository. The University of South Florida St. Petersburg (USFSP), a separately accredited institution within the USF System, has experienced significant buy-in from its faculty for depositing materials in the institutional repository, known as the USFSP Digital Archive. In a small institution of 5000 students, we have established collections for over one quarter of our faculty, with almost 1400 separate submissions in only two years.
