The distribution of many medications to the body via the respiratory tract system is crucial. This route has emerged as one of the most crucial techniques for the delivery of locally acting medications that can be used to treat a variety of respiratory conditions, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The advantages of this focused drug delivery to the lungs over systemic administration methods include an improved therapeutic effect, a faster onset of action, and fewer systemic side effects.

Many formulations as suspension and solutions, such as bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics have been recommended in a wide area …

Al-Mustaqbal Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences

A category of inherited blood illnesses known as beta-thalassemias are defined by abnormalities in the synthesis of hemoglobin beta chains, which can result in a wide range of phenotypes, from severe anemia to people who show no symptoms at all. People who have thalassemia major typically experience severe anemia during the first two years of life, necessitating frequent red blood cell (RBC) transfusions.

Management of individuals with β-thalassemia is centered on appropriate, safe blood transfusions (free of transfusion-transmitted illnesses) and prevention of iron excess. Complications from iron overload are brought on by routine transfusion therapy.

This study is a retrospective …

Al-Mustaqbal Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences

The pharmaceutical industry has brought advancement and opportunities. However, it has also presented challenges and complexity that must be addressed. The pharmaceutical industry aims to protect public health by providing economical, effective, safe, and appropriate treatments. The analytical method monitors medication concentrations to ensure efficacy and safety. Chemical preservations protect drugs from microbes until administration. In Refax suspensions, the concentration of rifaximin (Antibacterial, API) and sodium benzoate (chemical preservative) must be determined to ensure the suspension's effectiveness, stability, and safety with regulatory standards.

An innovative HPLC method was created to monitor the concentrations of rifaximin (Antibacterial, API) and sodium benzoate …

Introduction: The Non rational use and overall volume of antibiotic consumption in the community is one of the foremost causes of antimicrobial resistance. In developing countries like Iraq, pharmacists often dispense ‘prescription-only’ drugs, like antibiotics, to patients who do not have a prescription. The objectives of this study are to estimate the prevalence of irrational use of antibiotics bought from pharmacies and other medication outlets in some areas in Iraq, as well as to investigate the factors related with such usage.

Method: The cross-sectional face to face survey was conducted in AL Mustaqbal University, were 267 students at College of …

Development Of A Multi-Target Pharmacophore-Based Virtual Screening Agent Against Covid-19, Nashwa A. Ibrahim, Ahmed M. Gouda, Hany A. M. El-Sherief

Al-Mustaqbal Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medical Sciences

The worldwide outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic compelled scientists to develop new, highly effective therapeutic approaches to fight it. Multitarget drugs have been proven to be effective in managing complex disorders. But designing multitarget drugs is a great challenge. In this study, to prevent a lack of efficacy due to viral mutation escape, a multi-target agent against the COVID-19 virus was discovered. As crucial targets, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), COVID-19 main protease (Mpro), and SARS-CoV-2 Nsp15 were selected. A pharmacophore model was developed using the native ligands of the chosen targets. This model was used to screen the ZINC Drug …

Improving Prolonged Antibiotics Education In A Pediatric Unit, Zerena S. Silva Villamonte

Master's Projects and Capstones

Problem Children’s Hospital A's incidence report tool, iCares, demonstrates that 50% of the issues related to prolonged intravenous (IV) antibiotics are categorized as administration issues. This leads to the medication being delivered at the wrong time or rate. Having these issues increases patient length of stay, increasing hospital costs. Context The microsystems for this quality improvement project include inpatient pediatric patient care units (PCU) 300, 360, and 400. Children’s Hospital A is a 361-bed San Francisco Bay Area hospital. Interventions The Clinical Nurse Leader students implemented a presentation defining prolonged IV antibiotics, their rationale, and a video demonstrating the correct …

Knowledge And Attitude Of Lebanese Adults Towards Asthma In Beirut, Lebanon, Farah Hatem Haidar, Doaa Issa, Maha Aboul Ela, Karim Raafat

BAU Journal - Health and Wellbeing

Asthma, a serious global health problem, has been an area of interest due to its increasing prevalence, expanding treatment costs, and rising burden on patients and the community. Since asthma cannot be cured, clinical episodes can be prevented and controlled by adequate management and sufficient knowledge of the disease. Appropriate treatment may relieve asthma symptoms and improve quality of life. However, poor knowledge of asthma disease and medication use, misdiagnoses, misuse of inhalers and inadequate self-management of disease symptoms may have a greater impact on the disease process. Therefore, assessment of the population’s knowledge and attitude toward asthma is essential. …

In Medical Oncology, the utilization of EPIC-Beacon Treatment Plans is integral for prescribing and administering cancer treatments. These treatment plans typically consist of anticancer infusion medications (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, etc.), supportive care medications, required laboratory orders, and other monitoring recommendations to ensure that patients receive safe and effective care. In 2017, TJUH transitioned from Varian’s Aria to EPIC’s electronic medical record system. Since then, there has not been a formal review of existing plans, and there are many inconsistencies between plans in different cancer types.

Problem Statement:

  • Currently, there is not a formal process for review of existing treatment plans, …

Opioid Prescription Rates Before And After Alto Program And Various Factors Affecting Emergency Department Opioid Prescription Rates, Neel B. Patel, James F. Baird

Rowan-Virtua Research Day

Opioid prescription rates vary between patient population, diagnosis, location, and emergency department characteristics. High prescription rates offer an avenue for potential opioid addiction and overdoses. Alternatives to opioids (ALTO) is a new program already implemented in certain emergency departments to help change opioid prescription rates by introducing new protocols for first line treatments for pain management. With current trends still showing that South Jersey opioids prescription rates are the highest in the state of New Jersey, ALTO was introduced at Inspira Health Network located in South Jersey. This study retrospectively analyzed opioids prescription rates for abdominal pain, renal colic, migraines, …
