Students' Perceived Value Of The Community College Experience: A Mixed Methods Study, Robin A. Duncan
Students' Perceived Value Of The Community College Experience: A Mixed Methods Study, Robin A. Duncan
Antioch University Full-Text Dissertations & Theses
The purpose of this study was to explore students’ perceived value of their community college experience and its relationship to other factors often related to student persistence in college, namely satisfaction, academic quality, service quality, and engagement. The research was guided by three focused questions: How do students describe and define perceived value of community college; what components emerge from exploratory factor analysis of items designed to measure perceived value; and how, if at all, is a student’s perception of the value of a community college experience different from related measures such as satisfaction, engagement, or quality? Data were collected …
A Methodology To Predict Community College Stem Student Retention And Completion, Jennifer Lynn Snyder
A Methodology To Predict Community College Stem Student Retention And Completion, Jennifer Lynn Snyder
Doctoral Dissertations
"Numerous government reports point to the multifaceted issues facing the country's capacity to increase the number of STEM majors, while also diversifying the workforce. Community colleges are uniquely positioned as integral partners in the higher education ecosystem. These institutions serve as an access point to opportunity for many students, especially underrepresented minorities and women. Community colleges should serve as a major pathway to students pursuing STEM degrees; however student retention and completion rates are dismally low. Therefore, there is a need to predict STEM student success and provide interventions when factors indicate potential failure. This enables educational institutions to better …
Effect Of Attendance On The Performance Of Day And Evening Students, Kerry-Ann Alicia Barrett
Effect Of Attendance On The Performance Of Day And Evening Students, Kerry-Ann Alicia Barrett
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Several studies posit a positive relationship between class attendance and student performance. Grades for students enrolled in Introduction to Management during the fall 2015 semester at a community college in Jamaica revealed that evening students on
average scored a grade higher than students enrolled in the day sections. Lecturers noted day students missed more classes than evening students but the relationship between attendance and performance was not known. The purpose of this correlational study was
to determine the relationship between attendance and performance, measured by grades. Guided by Knowles's theory that adults are self-directed, this study was designed to explore …
College Readiness As Perceived By First-Year Community College Students Taking Remedial Courses, Kristopher Kyle Wallaert
College Readiness As Perceived By First-Year Community College Students Taking Remedial Courses, Kristopher Kyle Wallaert
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Roughly 60% of first-year community college students attending a community college in
Idaho need to take remedial courses. Such a high percentage of first-year community
college students in remedial courses indicates that students are not being properly
prepared for collegiate studies. The purpose of this study was to understand college
readiness through the perception of first-year community college students who were
taking remedial courses. The framework for this study builds on Conley's
multidimensional model of college readiness. Data from 10 semi structured interviews
conducted with community college students taking remedial courses provided
information about the opinions and ideas about college …
