Twice-Exceptional Black Girls: A Case Study In Early Childhood, Krystal L. Clemons, Renae D. Mayes
Perspectives on Early Childhood Psychology and Education
Twice-exceptional (2e) refers to children who are gifted or talented in one or more areas and also have a disability or learning difference. Despite the increasing awareness of 2e learners in recent years, many still lack recognition and support, particularly those from marginalized communities. Black girls are among the groups that are least likely to receive accurate identification and appropriate services for their 2e needs. This case study aims to shed light on the experiences of a 2E Black girl in early childhood and offer recommendations for school counselors to better support them.

Journal of Human Services Scholarship and Interprofessional Collaboration
This study, guided by the Social Determinants of Health framework and Social Ecological Model, examined how SDOH impact the presence of anxiety during adolescence. This study set out to understand what sociocultural determinants predict anxiety, using the 2018 National Survey of Children’s Health dataset. The analysis included a logistic regression to determine the predictability of SDOH on anxiety in adolescence. The results indicated that various SDOH are significant predictors of anxiety, while also indicating that the absence of adverse SDOH predicts the lack of anxiety. Further, unique findings related to race/ethnicity, age, and gender set the stage for additional research …

However, many clinicians continue to lack focused training in providing trauma-informed and culturally-responsive telehealth care. This article outlines a model curriculum that was created to instruct and coach behavioral health providers in California on how to integrate anti-racist and trauma-responsive techniques into telehealth. Topics like evidence-based trauma therapies, racial/ ethnic trauma, marginalized communities, digital divide, and provider selfcare were all covered in the nine-part curriculum. Every three-hour session included evidence-informed didactic content, telehealth skills practice, and concrete planning for implementation. Trauma-responsive frameworks such as the tri-phasic model …

This study explores the acceptance of immersive and interactive virtual reality (IIVR) among counselor educators in higher education. It aims to identify the factors influencing their intentions to use IIVR as a teaching tool by examining relationships between various predictors and behavioral intention. This representative survey reveals significant positive correlations between behavioral intention and performance expectancy (r =.56), effort expectancy (r = .40), and social influence (r = .55), confirming that these predictive factors play a vital role in IIVR acceptance. Additional analyses indicate that age and gender do not significantly moderate these relationships, suggesting a universal inclination toward adopting …

The Relationship Between Therapists' Belief About Exposure-Based Therapies, Anxiety, And Religious Faith: A Quantitative Study, Leslie Marie Gordon
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Professional therapists are vital in society, providing mental health care for individuals and families. However, therapists can experience mental health diagnoses as well, which may affect what therapeutic techniques they use with clients. Exposure-based therapies (EBTs) are an effective therapeutic technique for anxiety disorder, yet professional therapists underutilize them. Research demonstrated that religious faith affects the counseling relationship, although no research was identified as exploring the relationship between therapists’ religious faith, personal anxiety level, and belief in using EBTs in their practices. This quantitative, descriptive, correlational study utilized PROCESS Model 1 and sought to fill this gap in the literature. …

Trust And Its Implications For Trauma, Casidhe C. Daniels
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Trust presents as a complex and frequently misunderstood building block. While people often demonstrate an inherent belief that trust is naturally engrained in others, adverse life events and traumatic experiences can alter a person’s level of trust. Trust has the ability to change and become redefined. This can occur in a negative manner when trauma is incurred. While the individual’s is often innocent because of the challenges they have experiences, successes, failures, and traumatic events develop an ability to trust others and to what degree they face the lingering implications and diagnoses result.

The present study explores the relationship between perceived childhood experiences and one’s current relationship with God in an Egyptian Muslim sample. While such relationship has been researched in Western contexts, there is a notable gap in understanding these dynamics within Muslim Middle Eastern cultures. In this study, 180 participants, brought up in Muslim households, were given the following questionnaires: both versions of the Parental Acceptance Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ) referring to the father and mother, Attachment to God Inventory (AGI), and Images of God (LAMBI Scale). The results presented the internal consistency of both the AGI and LAMBI scales with the …

Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
The authors of this study used inductive content analysis to qualitatively explore the group practicum training experiences of clinical mental health counselors who graduated from one CACREP-accredited program. Fifteen participants shared about their firsthand experiences in a required group practicum course and described the ways in which the experience impacted their competence and self-efficacy as counseling professionals and group workers. Five resulting themes highlight the significance and value of practical training experiences dedicated solely to group facilitation. Implications for counselor educators and program accreditors are provided, along with recommendations for future research.
