Saposin B (Sap B) is an essential activator protein for arylsulfatase A in the hydrolysis of sulfatide, a lipid component of myelin. To study Sap B’s role in hearing and balance, a Sap B-deficient (B^-/-) mouse was evaluated. At both light and electron microscopy (EM) levels, inclusion body accumulation was seen in satellite cells surrounding spiral ganglion (SG) neurons from postnatal month 1 onward, progressing into large vacuoles preceding satellite cell degeneration, and followed by SG degeneration. This study aimed to determine the alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) activity of peripheral blood leukocytes in pregnant, kitten, and adult Angora cats. In each group 9 healthy pregnant, adult, and kitten Angora cats constituted the material of the study. Optimum reaction was achieved after a 3 h incubation period at pH 5.8, by ANAE staining. Two types of reaction were observed in ANAE (+) T lymphocytes. The melatonin receptor 1A (MTNR1A) and inhibin alpha subunit (INHA) genes play a significant role in the reproductive characteristics of animals. Blood samples were collected from 371 goats (Honamli and Hair) reared in Antalya and Burdur. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products were digested by RsaI for the MTNR1A gene and HaeII for the INHA gene. In the current study gelatin was recovered from scales of farmed sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). The first part of the study was planned to determine the yield of acid-soluble collagen and pepsin-soluble collagen from the scales. Both collagens were characterized as type I collagen, containing \alpha-1 and \alpha-2 chains. In the second part, gelatin was extracted using acetic acid and functional properties were determined in this product. Gelatin protein value was found to be 96% and the yield was found to be 18.49%. A total of 100 RTE foods, including 25 stuffed mussels, 25 ezme samples (a Turkish-style tomato dip/condiment), 25 fried spiced livers, and 25 mayonnaise-based salads were obtained from retail shops and supermarkets in Samsun, Turkey. The aims of study were to reveal the changes in genetic diversity in reproduction selection of sheep. Genetic polymorphisms of microsatellite GC101 locus and its linkage with the FecB gene were detected in Chinese local sheep (Small Tail Han and Hu sheep) and western sheep (Texel and Dorset) breeds. There was the same FecB mutation (A746G) in both Small Tail Han and Hu sheep as that in Booroola Merino ewes, but not in Texel and Dorset sheep. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Flavobacterium psychrophilum and to examine the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of enrofloxacin (ENR), doxycycline (DOX), and florfenicol (FFC) treatment in rainbow trout fry (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) against F. Psychrophilum. A total of 220 naturally infected rainbow trout fry were examined and 26 bacterial isolates were phenotypically and genotypically identified. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary red grape pomace (RGP) on amino acid digestibility (AIAAD), intestinal microflora, and antioxidant activity in the sera and liver. Sixty-six broilers were housed in battery cages. They were allocated to six cages corresponding to two dietary treatments with three replicates of each treatment. The treatments were administered from 10 to 36 days and included a control diet and a diet containing 1.5% RGP dry powder with the other components remaining unchanged, compared to the control. The RGP had a significant (P < 0.05) positive effect on the apparent metabolizable energy. The majority of coefficients of AIAAD were higher in the RGP. The ileal digestibility of threonine, serine, proline, and glycine was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in RGP. RGP had a positive effect (P < 0.05) on the content of Lactobacillus in the lower part of the ileum. The blood sera of broilers fed RGP had significantly (P < 0.05) lower 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and uric acid content. The RGP at a concentration of 15 g/kg in the grower diet did not affect the growth of broilers, and RGP is suitable for broiler diets to improve gastrointestinal tract functionality.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of tamsulosin (TAM) dosages on ejaculation and semen quality. Two sets of Latin square experiment design were applied to 6 bucks receiving normal saline (CON), TAM 134.8 nM/kg (LTAM), or 269.7 (HTAM) nM/kg at 1-week intervals. Semen collection, libido, and ejaculatory scoring were undertaken at 3, 6, 9, 12, and 24 h after injection. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of hydrolyzed and live forms of yeast products from Saccharomyces cerevisiae on in vitro fermentation of a 50:50 forage:concentrate substrate using the rumen simulation technique (Rusitec). The Rusitec system consisted of nine fermentation vessels: three of them received daily 0.5 g/L hydrolyzed yeast, three vessels received daily 0.5 g/L live yeast, and three vessels received no additives (control). After an adaptation period of 7 days, the main fermentation characteristics were evaluated for 7 consecutive days. Ruminal pH was decreased (P < 0.05) by hydrolyzed yeast, whereas no effects were observed after live yeast treatment. Both hydrolyzed and live yeasts tended to increase butyrate production (P = 0.052). Acetate to propionate ratio was significantly higher (P < 0.05) for live yeast. Both products increased NH3-N concentration, and it was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in live yeast in comparison with that in hydrolyzed yeast. Digestibility of dry matter was not significantly affected by both yeast treatments. Overall, these results showed that different types of yeast products in terms of their viability status had significant actions in ruminal microbial metabolism in different ways.

The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for subclinical heifer mastitis and to create a model that can predict the prevalence of subclinical mastitis of pregnant heifers in farms in Turkey. Lacteal secretion samples were taken from 439 pregnant (6-9 months) heifers and bacteriological analyses were performed. In this study, 37.47% of the samples were determined to be infected. In lacteal secretion samples, the isolation rate of coagulase-negative staphylococci and Staphylococcus aureus was 44.83% and 35.71%, respectively. In order to find alternative feed additives to replace antibiotics for safe animal production, combinations of probiotics, oligosaccharides, and berberine were used in this study. Ninety 60-day-old pigs were assigned to 9 groups, with 10 pigs for each group. Group 1 was the control, group 2 had antibiotics added, and groups 3-9 had different levels of combinations added.
