Diversity and race-concordant relationships contribute to improved patient experiences and outcomes. In contrast, the representation of underrepresented in medicine (URiM) individuals in different medical specialties is declining. The essential pathway to improving diversity within the future workforce centers around the inclusion of a diverse cohort of medical students. Hepcidin, a peptide produced by the liver with antimicrobial properties, is mainly synthesized by hepatocytes situated near the portal veins, which are responsible for transporting dietary iron, as well as by Kupffer cells. Prior practice in a 523-bed community hospital required automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) to be replenished daily by early afternoon to ensure accurate drug ordering. Because of the tight time window, technicians frequently refilled ADCs during peak medication administration times. After a positive report from a smaller facility in the health system, the study facility implemented a quality improvement project to optimize the ADCs. This involved new processes of every-other-day ADC replenishment staggered via shift-specific workflows, and a dedicated technician was assigned to optimize ADC inventories.

Background: Despite the availability of various biosimilars in Thailand, the link between physicians’ familiarity and biosimilars prescribing practice remains still unclear.

Objectives: This study aimed to find the association between physicians’ familiarity and biosimilars prescribing practice among physicians in Thailand.

Methods: This research adopted an extended analysis framework, utilizing survey data from a pilot study on the surveillance of Thai physicians regarding biosimilar uptake. The familiarity with biosimilars among respondents was evaluated.

Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) are life-threatening drug hypersensitivity reactions, including acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS), and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). SCARs occur in approximately 0.1% of hospitalizations and have mortality rates ranging from 5% for AGEP to 5–35% for SJS/TEN. AGEP typically presents with acute erythematous areas, sterile pustules, fever, and neutrophilia within 48–72 h of drug exposure. Herein, we report a library of 7-mer macrocyclic peptides designed by systematically replacing one, multiple, or all L-amino acids with their D-isomers in our previously identified hit compounds. Lead peptides, 15c and 16c, showed broad-spectrum activity against bacteria (Gram-positive minimum inhibitory activity (MIC 1.5–6.2 µg/mL and Gram-negative MIC 6.2–25 µg/mL) and fungi (MIC = 3.1–25 µg/mL). Additionally, peptides 15c and 16c showed rapid kill kinetics and biofilm degradation potential against both bacteria and fungi, while resistance development was not observed. After the era of multidrug resistance (MDR) against cytotoxic chemotherapy, the development of resistance against newly developed molecularly targeted drugs also seems inevitable. While the mechanisms involved in resistance against these two categories of anticancer drugs are different, the principles are similar: inherent resistance (also known as primary resistance) is a result of heterogeneity in cancer cells where a subpopulation of the cells do not show a favorable initial response to the drug, while acquired resistance (or secondary resistance), as the name suggests, is developed after repeated treatments due to the plasticity of cancer cells.
