Dentistry And The Law: Risk Of Employment Discrimination In Job Advertisements, Dan Schulte Jd
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
Employment discrimination in job advertisements that include religious references, such as statements like "faith-based practice" or symbols like crosses, is a legal concern. Federal and Michigan state laws, particularly the Elliot Larson Civil Rights Act (ELCRA), prohibit discrimination in employment, encompassing various protected classes. ELCRA applies to all employers in Michigan, regardless of their size. Violating ELCRA can lead to legal consequences, including injunctive relief and compensatory damages. Including such references or symbols in job ads can be used as evidence against employers in discrimination claims, even if rejected candidates have lesser qualifications. Publishers of these ads are also at …

Objective
This study used a national database to update and examine current differences in men's and women's oral health and oral health behaviours in the United States.
Methods
Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for the 2017–2018 cycle were used to explore the relationship between males and females and their oral health. Multivariate analyses assessed for gender differences in oral health behaviors between genders after controlling for sample demographic characteristics.
Results
The final sample consisted of 4,741 participants. Males tended to have fewer dental visits, worse perception of their gum and tooth health, poorer flossing habits, and …

Evaluation Of Apical Debris Extrusion Of Two Full-Rotating Instruments, Hyflex Edm And Race Evo, Versus Two Reciprocating Instruments, Reciproc Blue And R-Motion: An In-Vitro Study., Carla Abi Saad, Roula Abiad
BAU Journal - Science and Technology
Complete cleaning and shaping of the root canal space is a mandatory stage for the success of root canal treatment. Extrusion of different materials apically during this step such as dentine debris, pulp tissue remnants, necrotic fragments, microorganisms and irrigants may occur. These extruded materials lead to periapical irritation, pain and/or swelling. To evaluate the apical debris extrusion of Race EVO and Hyflex EDM which are full-rotating instruments, versus R-motion and Reciproc Blue as reciprocating instruments. Forty extracted human mandibular premolar teeth were selected with single canals not affected by fluorosis, resorption, or fracture. Teeth were then randomly divided into …

In complete dental transposition, aligning the transposed teeth to its normal anatomic position is always a complicated and difficult challenge, which needs multiple clinical considerations. This case report illustrates an orthodontic treatment of a 20-year-old female patient who had a concave profile, skeletal and dental Class III malocclusion with anterior crossbite and complete transposed maxillary left lateral incisor and impacted canine. The correction of transposition was performed by moving the canine by maintaining its high position in the vestibular fold and use lever arm and temporary anchorage device (TAD) to facilitate traction of the maxillary canine. Vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel …

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics
A 27-year-old male patient was diagnosed as severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), having problems of skeletal Class II jaw related with mandibular retrognathism, orthodivergent facial pattern, dental Class II malocclusion, and occlusal plane canting. By intervention of miniscrew assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) and maxillomandibular advancement (MMA), the clinical result presented significant improvement in functional and esthetic aspects after 18 months of treatment.

The decision of whether to have an extraction or non-extraction treatment plan is a controversial issue for an orthodontist. Many orthodontic techniques can help to resolve the crowding dentition by using the non-extraction treatment plan. This case report describes the correction of Class III molar malocclusion with the application of two mini-screws. The line of action of the force from the temporary anchorage devices pass through the center of resistance in the mandible, therefore the movement of the lower arch can be controlled without lingual tipping or intrusion of the mandibular incisors. At the end of the treatment, Class I …

Important Orthodontic Considerations In Preparation Of Orthognathic Surgical Cases, Ib Leth Nielsen
Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics
Nowadays some adult patients seeking for orthodontic treatment may present severe malocclusion associated with pronounced skeletal discrepancies. Accordingly, thorough consideration and planning would be beneficial for the patient by the combined efforts of orthodontic and orthognathic approaches. This review reiterated the genetic impact on the growth velocity of the jaw with age in Class III malocclusion, and outlined the treatment protocol for the steps including the initial evaluation, the diagnosis, and the alignment of the teeth and dental arches before and after surgical correction. Specifically, emphasis is addressed on how to obtain records of jaw relationship in centric relation (CR) …

Background: With the increasing patients’ demand for a perfect smile, the call for highly aesthetic and yet minimally invasive veneers has surmounted. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the colour of CAD/CAM lithium disilicate veneers fabricated in different thicknesses and different translucencies of the lithium disilicate blocks. Materials and Methods: Forty discs of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max CAD) of shade A1 of both high and low translucency (HT, LT) were tested for their colour reproduction. HT and low LT blocks were cut in the form of plates of dimensions (12 x 14 mm) and of different …

Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the effect of abutments design on wear behavior of Locator attachments in implant-retained mandibular overdenture. Materials and Methods: Two epoxy models representing an edentulous mandible were used, two implants were placed in each model. Twenty-four locator attachments were used (twelve in each study group). Cycles of Insertion and removal were performed using a universal testing machine resembling 3 years of clinical use, then each abutment was scanned by scanning electron microscope (SEM) before and after insertion and removal cycles. Data were compared qualitatively using a specialized computer software Results: There was …

Abstract:
Introduction: Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH) is one of qualitative DED. MIH is increasing dramatically in the new generations, which is considered to be challenging for the majority of dentists. MIH was found to be prevalent in 14.2% of the world's population, with the high incidence 18% in South America and the least (10.9%) in Africa. This study was carried out to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of graduated Egyptian dentists' group regarding MIH condition and compare the outcome information among different dental specialists.
Material and methods: A google based questionnaire based on previously validated published papers distributed electronically …

Objective: Evaluation of anchorage loss following anterior segment retraction (ASR) using friction versus frictionless mechanics when mini-screws are directly and indirectly loaded using Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and methods: Thirty females with bimaxillary protrusion were randomly allocated into two groups, friction and frictionless. In friction group, a hook was crimped on 0.017- by 0.025-inch stainless steel wire distal to the lateral incisor and elastomeric chain rendering 160 g/side extending between the hook and mini-screw implant to complete the ASR. In the frictionless group, canines were ligated to the mini-screws for indirect anchorage then ASR was done using closing …

Future Dental Journal
Background: The dimensions of the arch wire affect its stiffness and the play between the wire and bracket. Canine retraction over stiffer arch wires limits the degree of canine tipping. However, the greater the wire dimensions, the greater the resistance to sliding. Frictional resistance is known to delay tooth movement. Aim: The aim of this controlled clinical trial was to compare canine retraction rate and angulation with 0.017”X0.025” versus 0.016”X0.022” stainless steel arch wire with a power arm. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four Class II malocclusion patients (age 13.8± 2.6 years) participated in this study. The teeth were leveled and aligned. …
