Thysanoptera Fauna Of The Lakes Region, Turkey, İrfan Tunç, Şeri̇fe Ünal Bahşi̇, Hüseyi̇n Sümbül

The Thysanoptera fauna of the Lakes Region of Turkey was studied in 1990-1992. A total of 3173 specimens from 397 samples were examined. The study revealed 74 Thysanoptera species and 45 of them are new records for the region. Three genera, namely Bregmatothrips Hood, Eremiothrips Priesner, and Iridothrips Priesner; and 5 species, namely Bregmatothrips dimorphus (Priesner), Eremiothrips dubius (Priesner), Eremiothrips taghizadehi (zur Strassen), Iridothrips iridis (Watson), and Mycterothrips annulicornis (Uzel) are new records for the Turkish fauna. Graecoanatolica Radoman, 1973 is a remarkable genus of Hydrobiidae, recognized with its disjunct distribution between Macedonia, Greece (Thessaly), and Turkey (Lakes Region). However, the current distribution of the genus is restricted to Turkey, as the 2 Balkan species have been declared extinct. In this study, a taxonomic revision of the Graecoanatolica species in Turkey is presented. Among 6 previously recognized species, G. conica Radoman, 1973 and G. brevis Radoman, 1973 from the provinces of Denizli and Burdur are determined to be extinct. The larval parasitoids and larval diseases of Malacosoma neustria (L.) (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) in various host plants were investigated in Erzurum Province, Turkey, during 2004 and 2005. The larval parasitoids were reared in a laboratory, and a total of 29 parasitoid species were established in association with the larvae of M. neustria in the families Tachinidae (Diptera), Braconidae, Ichneumonidae, and Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera). Of the 6 tachinid parasitoids, Pales pavida (Meigen) was the most prevalent species and accounted for 25% of the tachinid records. Barbaxonella taurusensis n. sp. is described and a list of species of the water mite family Aturidae Thor, 1900 from Turkey is given. Barbaxonella taurusensis n. sp. is the second species of genus Barbaxonella Lundblad, 1954 recorded from Turkey.

The Calanoid copepod Eudiaptomus gracilis (G.O. Sars, 1863) is recorded from Turkish inland waters for the first time. Males and females of Eudiaptomus gracilis were consistently found during 6 sampling periods in the Yeşilırmak River. The species was collected from the Yeşilırmak River and Suat Uğurlu and Hasan Uğurlu dam lakes in the Black Sea region and detailed descriptions of both sexes are given.

The idiocerine leafhopper genus Busoniomimus Maldonado-Capriles, 1977 is recorded for the first time in China, and a new species, B. hainanensis sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Hainan Province, China. A key to species of the genus Busoniomimus is given, and a checklist of all known species of the genus Busoniomimus is also provided.

In the present study, the LC_{50} of nickel and its impact on the behaviour of 2 species of freshwater prawns, Macrobrachium lamarrei (H. Milne Edwards) and Macrobrachium dayanum (Henderson) was evaluated. An inverse relationship between LC_{50} values and exposure duration was obtained. Nickel was found to be 6.33 times more toxic to M. lamarrei than to M. dayanum. Nickel exposure increased aggression and loss of balance in both species of prawns in a concentration-dependent manner with both parameters being higher in M. dayanum (416.47 mg/L) than in M. lamarrei (65.77 mg/L). Tephritis ozaslani sp. nov. is described from Artvin Province of Turkey and placed in the T. pulchra species group. The key to the T. pulchra group is provided, which includes 9 species. The main characters that distinguish the new species from the closely resembling Palaearctic species, T. cometa israilis Freidberg, T. acanthiophilopsis Hering, T. erdemlii Kütük, T. divisa Rondani, T. recurrens Loew, T. merzi Freidberg & Kütük, and T. hurvitzi Freidberg, are discussed. In addition, Inula oculus christi L. (Asteraceae) is determined as a host plant of the new species.

Fifteen Lyciasalamandra atifi and 14 L. fazilae from Antalya Province, Turkey, were examined for helminths. Three species of nematodes, Rhabdias bermani, Aplectana acuminata, and Cosmocerca longicauda, were found in L. atifi and 2 species, Aplectana linstowi and Cosmocerca longicauda, were found in L. fazilae. L. atifi represents a new host record for each of the 3 species of nematodes reported; L. fazilae represents a new host record for each of the 2 species of nematodes reported.

Tetra Pak containers were evaluated as an alternative to tissue culture flasks for nematode storage. Our data showed that Tetra Pak containers were an excellent alternative to tissue culture flasks for storage of H. bacteriophora and will more than likely be useful for other entomopathogenic nematode species.

A new species of freshwater amphipod, Gammarus obruki sp. nov., collected from İnderesi Cave, Bartın Province, Turkey, is described and illustrated. The new species belongs to the Gammarus pulex group. The most discriminant characters of this species are the presence of prolonged extremities, a very long antenna 1 (up to 52 segmented flagellum), densely setose fifth peduncle and flagellar segments of antenna 2, and a fourth peduncle segment that has no long setae. A detailed morphological description and illustrations of the new species are provided and differences from related species are discussed.

In a book chapter containing the first checklist and distribution of Turkish rotifers, published in 1999, were listed 167 taxa. The second checklist, published in 2004, reported 229 rotifer taxa in Turkey. During the 7 years since this checklist process, many studies have been carried out and we have prepared a new checklist of Turkish rotifers in the present study. In all, 341 rotifer taxa have been recorded to date.

Neoergasilus japonicus (Harada, 1930), a parasitic copepod from the family Ergasilidae (Copepoda, Poecilostomatoida), was observed for the first time in Turkey during a parasitological examination of rudd Scardinius erythrophthalmus from Lake Sapanca. The investigation was performed between March 2009 and February 2010, and a total of 132 S. erythrophthalmus were studied at monthly intervals. N. japonicus infection was found from June to November, and during this period the monthly prevalences were 18.2%, 75.0%, 53.8%, 61.5%, 38.5%, and 33.3%, respectively. Seasonal variations in the liver and muscle fatty acid composition of Alburnus chalcoides (Güldenstadt, 1772) from Tödürge Lake (Sivas, Turkey) were determined. The most abundant fatty acids in the investigated seasons and tissues were C16:0, C18:0, C18:1 n-9, C18:1 n-7, C20:4 n-6, C20:5 n-3, and C22:6 n-3. Four species of the genus Perigrapha Lederer are reviewed in Iran. Two species, P. annau Varga & Ronkay, 1991 and P. flora Hreblay, 1996, are reported for the first time from the fauna of Iran.
