Plant Water Relations And Photosynthetic Activity In Three Tunisian Chickpea (Cicer Arietinum L.) Genotypes Subjected To Drought, Abdelmajid Krouma

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important food crop grown under rainfed conditions in Mediterranean regions in which drought is a major limiting factor for production. In these areas little attention is given to legumes, and efforts to identify drought-tolerant genotypes are primarily focused on major cereal crops. In the current study a greenhouse experiment was conducted to assess the effects of drought stress on plant growth, photosynthesis, and water relations in 3 Tunisian chickpea genotypes (Cicer arietinum L.). Drought was applied, and soil humidity was maintained at 30% of field capacity (stressed plants) or 100% of field capacity (control …

Prey Preference, Interaction With Selected Natural Enemies, And Alternative Nutritional Sources Of The Mirid Bug Dicyphus Tamaninii Wagner, Ihab Ghabeish, Azzam Saleh, Abdulfattah Dababat

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The present study aimed to investigate the prey preference of the omnivorous bug Dicyphus tamaninii Wagner (Heteroptera: Miridae) among 5 different prey species, and its interaction with 3 different natural enemies commonly used in greenhouses. Moreover, the survival duration of the predator was studied in response to different nutritional sources. In multi-choice trials all developmental stages of the predator tested, namely N_3, N_5, and adult female, showed a clear preference for Aphis gossypii Glover over other prey species offered. Nonetheless, a considerable number of Tetranychus urticae Koch, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande), and Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood) were also consumed. Myzus persicae (Sulzer) …

Pruning Effect On Content Of Quercetin And Catechin In Berry Skins Of Cv. Blaufränkisch (Vitis Vinifera L.), ZORAN BESLIC, SLAVICA TODIC, VELE TESEVIC, MILKA JADRANIN, MIROSLAV NOVAKOVIC, DEJAN TESIC 2010 TÜBİTAK

Pruning Effect On Content Of Quercetin And Catechin In Berry Skins Of Cv. Blaufränkisch (Vitis Vinifera L.), Zoran Beslic, Slavica Todic, Vele Tesevic, Milka Jadranin, Miroslav Novakovic, Dejan Tesic

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effect of pruning severity on quercetin and catechin content in berry skins of cv. Blaufränkisch (Vitis vinifera L.) was studied over 3 years. Different crop levels and canopy structures were obtained by retaining 8, 16, and 24 nodes per vine at pruning. Canopy density, which is proportionate to the shoot number per canopy volume, directly affects the intensity of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). The quercetin content has been shown to be highly dependent on the light exposure of the berries in which it accumulates. An increase in node number linearly decreased skin catechin, and it is suggested that the …

The Effects Of Reduced Doses And Application Timing Of Metribuzin On Redroot Pigweed (Amaranthus Retroflexus L.) And Wild Mustard (Sinapis Arvensis L.), İBRAHİM KAHRAMANOĞLU, F. NEZİHİ UYGUR 2010 TÜBİTAK

The Effects Of Reduced Doses And Application Timing Of Metribuzin On Redroot Pigweed (Amaranthus Retroflexus L.) And Wild Mustard (Sinapis Arvensis L.), İbrahi̇m Kahramanoğlu, F. Nezi̇hi̇ Uygur

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Minimum doses of metribuzin that provide satisfactory control (>90%) of redroot pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) and wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis L.), 2 troublesome weeds of potato crops planted in spring and autumn, respectively, were assessed. Greenhouse experiments were conducted using 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 0% of the registered dose (525 g a.i. ha^{-1}) of metribuzin applied to the weeds grown in plastic pots. Dry weight data from the experiments were subjected to nonlinear regression analysis and the effective doses of metribuzin that caused a 90% reduction in dry weight (ED_{90}) were estimated. Metribuzin at doses of 240.8 …

Does Treating Faba Bean Seeds With Chemical Inducers Simultaneously Increase Chocolate Spot Disease Resistance And Yield Under Field Conditions?, SALAH ELHENDAWY, WALEED SHABAN, JUN-ICHI SAKAGAMI 2010 TÜBİTAK

Does Treating Faba Bean Seeds With Chemical Inducers Simultaneously Increase Chocolate Spot Disease Resistance And Yield Under Field Conditions?, Salah Elhendawy, Waleed Shaban, Jun-Ichi Sakagami

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The use of chemical inducers for the development of host resistance is an alternative approach to plant disease management and is assumed to be much more environmentally sound than traditional pesticides. Five chemical inducers, salicylic acid, oxalic acid, ascorbic acid, dipotassium hydrogen phosphate (KH_2PO_4), and calcium chloride (CaCl_2), all at concentrations of 10 mM, and an untreated control treatment were applied by seed soaking to compare their effectiveness in inducing resistance against chocolate spot disease (Botrytis fabae Sard.) in faba bean under greenhouse and field conditions, and to investigate whether use of these chemicals in this way is associated with …

Pathogen Reduction Effects Of Solar Drying And Soil Application In Sewage Sludge, NURTAÇ ÖĞLENİ, SAİM ÖZDEMİR 2010 TÜBİTAK

Pathogen Reduction Effects Of Solar Drying And Soil Application In Sewage Sludge, Nurtaç Öğleni̇, Sai̇m Özdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The responses of sludge faecal coliforms, Salmonella, and Ascaris lumbricoides to heat drying, solar dehydration, and inactivation in soil are examined in this study. The presence of Salmonella in raw sludge cake after treatment was low, and absent for most of the cases. Likewise, the viable Ascaris eggs were not determined because of absent or low prevalence. Faecal coliforms, on the other hand, drastically decreased from 4.2 × 10^7 MPN g^{-1} Dry Solid (DS) to absence by heat drying. Faecal coliform numbers in solar and non-solar drying treatments were not declined below 1.0 × 10^3 MPN g^{-1} after drying to …

Effect Of Foliar Applied Kinetin And Indole Acetic Acid On Maize Plants Grown Under Saline Conditions, CENGİZ KAYA, ATİLLA LEVENT TUNA, ABDULKADİR MUSTAFA OKANT 2010 TÜBİTAK

Effect Of Foliar Applied Kinetin And Indole Acetic Acid On Maize Plants Grown Under Saline Conditions, Cengi̇z Kaya, Ati̇lla Levent Tuna, Abdulkadi̇r Mustafa Okant

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study examined the effects of kinetin (KIN) and indoleacetic acid (IAA) sprayed on the leaves of salinity-stressed maize (Zea mays L. cv., DK 647 F1) plants grown in field conditions. Salt stress was created by adding 100 mM NaCl to the irrigation water through a drip irrigation system during the irrigation schedule. Kinetin (KIN), indole acetic acid (IAA), and their combinations were sprayed foliarly. Salt stress (S) reduced the total dry matter, grain yield, chlorophyll content, and relative water content (RWC), but increased electrolyte leakage and proline accumulation in the maize plants. Foliar applications of both KIN and IAA …
