Esthetic And Recreational Potential Of Small Naturalistic Streams Near Urban Areas, John A. Dearinger, Kenneth R. Harper, L. Douglas James

KWRRI Research Reports

The purpose of this study was to find a way to evaluate the esthetic and recreational potential of small streams and their watersheds. Research was limited to naturalistic streams with drainage areas under 100 square miles and located within 25 miles of a city. A methodology, based on some previous work of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and the principles or concepts of terrain analysis, land use planning, value Judgment philosophy and the economics of outdoor recreation, was developed and applied in detail to two streams (Boone and Jessamine Creeks) near Lexington, Kentucky.

Evaluations were made of the streams' potential …

Application Of Marginal Economic Analysis To Reservoir Recreation Planning, John Ellis Sirles Iii, L. Douglas James Jan 1968

Application Of Marginal Economic Analysis To Reservoir Recreation Planning, John Ellis Sirles Iii, L. Douglas James

KWRRI Research Reports

Recreation visitation and cost data at three reservoirs in the Ohio River Valley (Rough River, Dewey, and Winton Woods) were analyzed in an attempt to derive a method by which the optimum level of reservoir recreation development could be determined by marginal economic analysis.

The visitation data were used to determine factors expressing the time distribution of facility use, capacity coefficients, and realized benefits. The cost data were used to estimate annual cost, and marginal cost as functions of annual visitation. Marginal cost and marginal benefit data were combined to find the optimum size.

Potential visitation to Winton Woods was …

Factors Affecting Nesting Success Of The Canvasback In The Aspen Parklands, Jerome H. Stoudt

USGS Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center

The Minnedosa study area is located in the southwestern portion of Manitoba just south of the town of Minnedosa. It is 90 square miles in size and roughly square in shape. The Aspen Parkland, in which the study area is located, is characterized by gently rolling terrain and black soils. Mixed farming is the rule with emphasis on small grain production consisting of wheat, barley, and oats. Roughly 50 percent of the water areas in the parkland are ringed with aspen, Populus tremuloides, and large blocks of aspen are interspersed throughout the area. The Minnedosa area differs because of …

B614: A Plan For The Recreational Development Of The Machias Lakes Region In Washington County, Maine, A. Temple Bowen Jr.

Bulletins

The importance of forest land as the medium for wood fiber production has been recognized for some time. Recent developments and trends show that another function of this same forest land is that of providing a playground for millions of outdoor recreationists. This phenomenon has affected some areas to such an extent that certain forest lands are now considered to be more valuable as sources of outdoor recreation than as wood fiber production units. This bulletin presents a plan for landowners of a 90,000-acre tract of commercial forest land located midway between Bangor and Calais, Maine, in Washington County, to …

Hillsborough County: Framework Of The Plan Report, Hillsborough County Planning Commission

City and Regional Planning -- Florida

Hillsborough County's future physical growth will be built upon the base comprised of the existing development pattern : (a) Although the geographic location of Hillsborough is unalterable, man-made improvements to the natural setting are required to adapt the land form to present and future functions.
