Irvin "Buzz" Caverly, Jr. began working at Baxter State Park in 1960 as Park Ranger I immediately after graduating from Lee Academy in Lee, Maine. In 1982, 22 years after first being hired as a ranger, Caverly was selected to be the Baxter State Park Director, a position he would remain in until his retirement in 2005. Caverly remained active with the park, accepting an appointment from Governor Baldacci in 2007 to serve as the Baxter Park Wilderness Trust Fund Commissioner.

Collection, (1917-2023) includes papers, personal correspondence, and publications regarding former Governor Percival P. Baxter (1876-1969) and Baxter State Park. …

The purpose of this study was to understand the evolving visitor experience at Monocacy National Battlefield (MONO) in Fredrick, Maryland and, specifically, the way this National Park Service site serves both its’ tourist and local visitors. MONO has two main demographics who utilize it: individuals seeking to learn about historical importance of the site in the Civil War and local recreational visitors from Frederick and surrounding communities. Future Resource Assessment Reports will assess the Statewide Sharks and Rays Resource. The report is focused on the temperate indicator species (whiskery, gummy, dusky and sandbar sharks) used to assess the suites of demersal sharks and rays that comprise this resource. Film tourism encompasses the interest, investment and influence that exported media products can contribute to cultural globalization, and subsequent visitation of a nation. The Korean Wave or Hallyu wave has been studied and commended for its rapid spread and growing popularity within Asia and more recently, on a more global scale. By comparing and contrasting the methods used by the Korean government to enhance Hallyu, with several trade deals made by the US government to support Hollywood, we can see how the effects of film tourism were directed towards modifying perspectives on Korean culture. During the spring, summer, and fall seasons of 2003, visitors to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway were asked to participate in a user survey. The user survey was designed to elicit information from respondents on a variety of variables to determine characteristics of the visit, including activities, method of travel on the waterway, length of stay, camping conditions encountered, and to determine visitor preferences, including satisfactions with resource and social conditions encountered at campsites and while traveling on the watercourse. Federal, state and local government agencies have historically played a significant role in providing outdoor recreational facilities for public use. Public agencies provide campgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails, access to swimming and boating sites, interpretive facilities and programs, and numerous other types of recreational facilities. Until recently, very little attention was devoted to the costs associated with the provision of these facilities. Public funds were allocated to the construction and operation of the facilities without much concern for the economic consequences of these actions. I have dwelt at length with the Historic Districts of Federal Hill, because of the importance of the dwellings that are still in existence, which are a carryover of the first homes erected in this area. These homes are structures which represent a period of the past, and fortunately, have been preserved to this date. They should continue to be preserved, in order that the fine architecture, the opulence of the era, and the pattern of development of the past, can still be seen, and to the direction that Federal Hill developed, and how it radiated from certain focal points.

The purpose of this study was to prepare a series of alternative plans for three time periods (1968, 1975, and 2000) for the Upper St. John River watershed. The plans contain proposals for a primitive type of recreational development based on private investment. One set of plans is an integration of recreational use with the existing timber use, and another set provides for recreational use of the area surrounding the reservoir in the event the proposed Dickey Dam is constructed.

Recent developments and trends show that another function of this same forest land is that of providing a playground for millions of outdoor recreationists.
