The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

TAKING THE NAME MIDWEST QUARTERLY a little more literally than usual, and acknowledging further that we happen to publish our magazine in the place that Allen Ginsberg has called, with splendid empathy, "this vortex named Kansas," we have decided to indulge a typical American penchant for regionalism and give over a special section of this summer's issue exclusively to the work of fourteen Kansas poets. Job Satisfaction Of Police Officers In Second Class Cities In Kentucky, Joan Robertson

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study is to attempt to find out how the police officers in the second-class cities in Kentucky view their work. Questions asked concern relationships with the public, their supervisors, and co-workers; opinions of recent court rulings affecting their work; and their sentiments about salaries and plans to continue in police work. After assessing the job satisfaction of the officers, the results were correlated with other studies and recommendations are made directed toward increasing the officers' motivation and effectiveness in performing their duties.

Honors Theses

Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba after a surprisingly powerless Batista fled the country during the early morning hours of January 1, 1959. Joyous celebration swept the country as Castro made his triumphant journey across the island, leaving his hideout of two years in the Sierra Maestra for Havana. The revolution had succeeded in over throwing the hated Batista, for whom almost all elements of Cuban society felt disdain. The people were rejoicing at his overthrow* let most had little conception of what was to come. Fidel Castro, outside of being a popular hero, was a little known commodity …

Children And Political Socialization: Parental Influence On Children's Political Knowledge, Susan Piper May 1973

Children And Political Socialization: Parental Influence On Children's Political Knowledge, Susan Piper

Student Scholarship

This research paper explores the process of political socialization, specifically examining how political orientations, attitudes, and values are transmitted from parents to children. The author argues that political beliefs begin to form much earlier than traditionally assumed, with the period between ten and eighteen months being critical for intellectual development and fifty percent of intelligence being set by age four. The document includes a study of 235 children in …
