Kashmir has been occupied separately since 1947, but still, both sides claim the other’s occupation is illegal. Muslim Kashmiris, who are allegedly supported by Pakistan, continuously commit terrorist acts, and in return, Indian officials in Jammu and Kashmir violently suppress demonstrations and commit human right violations. This dissertation explores the political behavior of Latino millennials when compared to non-Latino millennials and Latino non-millennials. While most studies paint millennials as a monolithic generational cohort, this dissertation asks the following questions: Are Latino millennials distinct in their political behavior from millennials of other racial and ethnic groups? Do Latino millennials vary in their group identity from older Latinos, if yes does this create different patterns in their political participation when compared to other racial and ethnic millennials? The current note provides a replication and extension of previous research on the effectiveness of the Correcting Misperceptions Exercise (CME) ─ an in-class demographic guessing game in which students provide their perceptions of some demographic reality and compare it to an objective data source. Introduction: Framing is an important aspect of the policy process that helps the public and decision makers sort through and resolve highly charged claims about an issue. Through slight changes in the presentation of issues, a framing effect may alter public support. The way a proposed sugary drink tax is discussed in public discourse and by the media significantly influences policy acceptance. Given the public health significance of obesity and diabetes in West Virginia (WV) the study of media frames employed to represent a sugary drink tax policy is useful.

This dissertation applies a Neoclassical Realism model to examine how the evolution of United States (U.S.) national security strategy-making institutions has resulted in a path dependent accrual of autonomy and increasing influence over the formulation of American grand strategy. Once U.S. national security strategy-making institutions were created, their existence inexorably led to increasing autonomy, the creation of new strategy-making institutions, and subtle influence in shaping American grand strategy by preferential focus on a militarized foreign policy. The rural American vote was central to Donald Trump’s presidential victory in 2016. In an attempt to unpack the strongest motivators for rural Americans who voted for Trump, analyses explored the importance of anti-immigrant and anti-elite sentiment using a subset of rural participants in the 2016 American National Elections Study. Through a combination of quantitative data work, qualitative case studies and an extensive literature review, it was found that both anti-immigrant and anti-elite sentiments are indicators of a vote for Trump. However, the research and analyses suggest anti-immigrant sentiment is a stronger indicator.

Tulisan ini menganalisis modal sosial Jeje-Adang dalam pilkada Kabupaten Pangandaran tahun 2015 sebagai salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi berhasilnya mereka dalam memenangkan kontes politik lokal (pilkada). Kepemilikan modal sosial Jeje-Adang dikaji melalui metode kualitatif dengan studi deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi kepustakaan dan studi lapangan melalui wawancara secara purposive dan pemeriksaan dokumen-dokumen. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa modal sosial Jeje-Adang yang meliputi faktor ketokohan, kapabilitas dan integritasnya; kepercayaan dari masyarakat; interaksi sosial antara Jeje-Adang dengan pendukungnya; dan jaringan-jaringan sosial pendukung Jeje-Adang, berperan dalam perolehan kemenangan mereka.

Drawing on Arab Barometer data, this article provides the backdrop for understanding continuity and change since the Arab Spring in national-level public opinion attitudes toward economic and political foreign policy issues in North Africa, inclusive of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia. The article leverages the concepts of differentiation and diffusion to understand how international affairs shape public opinion in North Africa since the Arab Spring. Three findings emerge. Finally, in the latter half of the twentieth century, it appeared that this debate had been decisively resolved in favour of the view that governance was the preserve of governments. This was a consequence of the ascendance in the social sciences of methodologies that presupposed human activities to correspond to the territorial boundaries of sovereign states.
