I have been keeping very busy in Special Collections! I just finished a project combing some papers that had initially been separated. One box was intended to be department papers, while the other was supposed to be personal papers. I talked with some of the staff and we decided that it would be best to combine the papers, as they have a lot of common information that would be good to have in one place. That collection is finally complete and it feels great to have my first full project all done! [excerpt]

The collection contains several of the books written by Torrance on creativity and gifted children. These materials are from the 1960s and 1970s. There are a number of scholarly articles written and published by Torrance, as well as copies of digests, journals, and books series where Torrance's articles and works have appeared. The collection's strength is mainly in the area of Torrance's work in the field of education. There are no personal letters, memoirs, scrapbooks of photos, or personal journals. This essay will outline the digital collections of the Lesbian Herstory Archives with an emphasis on process and workflow. The paragraphs below will describe the efforts put forth by the all- volunteer collective, and their dedication toward making materials accessible through the use of digital technology to preserve, catalog, and exhibit lesbian herstory. The Center for Adventist Research (CAR), an Andrews University and General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist organization, seeks to promote an understanding and appreciation of the heritage and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA). It combines the resources of the James White Library’s Adventist Heritage Center and the Ellen G. White Estate Branch Office to provide the most extensive collection of Adventist-related resources in the world, both physically and digitally. An introduction to the background, collections, and activities of CAR is presented. Of particular interest are the digitization projects.

Grace Yang (Class of 2000) and Dr. Christian Nøkkentved standing in front of the special exhibit “IMSA and the Wide, Wide World” at an alumni/ae reunion. Since its very beginning there have been connections between the people of IMSA and the world. Those connections have ranged from informal to formal, from individual to group experiences of students, teachers and staff, from presentations at international conferences to exchange programs, and there have been visits of government and institutional officials. Hello! On Tuesday I finally finished processing and organizing my first collection. On the left is my finished product, all labeled and organized. Processing this collection was a very enjoyable experience for me–I feel that I am the expert on this collection. Throughout the process it was sometimes difficult to know how to group some of the items. Certain things, like meeting minutes, are easy to group together. Some things like handwritten notes or various articles are more difficult to group. If the notes contain a wide variation in subject matter, it might be better to group them into several …

Investigating The "Small World" Of Literary Archival Collections: The Impact Of Eac-Cpf On Archival Descriptive Practices – Part 1: Relationships, Description And The Archival Community, Katherine M. Wisser

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

This article opens an exploration of the description of relationships between entities made possible by the new standard, Encoded Archival Context - Corporate bodies, Persons and Families (EAC-CPF). Presents the results of a survey conducted in 2013 to gauge the archival descriptive community's perceptions of the significance of contextual information, relationship types, and other aspects of relationship description. Survey results indicate that the archival descriptive community has just begun to think about relationships in a formal way.

The bulk of the collection is the notes and papers from courses Mrs. Wills took while at Georgia State College for Women. However, these papers do not represent her entire course load during her academic career; it appears that many of them come from her junior and senior years. Most of the materials are from her education, psychology and sociology courses, probably required for her major.

Though this collection encompasses 1953 to 1990, the most comprehensive records are found from 1953 to 1971 and from 1973 to 1977. Materials from other years are less detailed and systematic in comparison, with seeming gaps in recording.

The meeting minutes provide an inkling of the community issues with which the area pastors concerned themselves. Correspondence included in this collection may elaborate on some of those issues. Church and pastor member listings also comprise the minutes. Financial records, as well as minutes, reflect the programs supported by the Ministerial Association. This collection contains personal items belonging to Saxon including his master's thesis, personal employment application, tax return, and photographs. In addition to these items, there are newspaper clippings from his time with the Georgia Education Association and the Georgia Accrediting Commission. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence from educators around the state of Georgia concerning his candidacy for offices in the Georgia Education Association. There are several reports and audits for the Quitman Public Schools included in this collection, as well as newspaper clippings reporting on the progress made in public education in the 1930s through the 1960s. …
