Fadgi On A Budget: Improving Digital Images For Library Staff And Faculty, Matthew J. Martin

This case study describes the photography equipment and setup of San Francisco State University’s Digital Scholarship Center, and the testing and manipulation of these elements to reach the 4-star tier of the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) technical guidelines. It describes how, with a few tools like a color target and image analysis software, cultural heritage digitization units with limited photography skills can markedly increase the quality of their digital images with experimentation, creativity, and the photography equipment they already have.

This poster reports on a preliminary study of current best practices for the management of theses and dissertations (TD) by university archivists in the United States. This will include procedural concerns, such as the maintenance of print copies, digital preservation, microfilming, and participation in external databases of TDs. It also begins to explore the relationships between university archives programs and institutional repositories in electronic TD submission/management, and the status of theses and dissertations as student records.

Corporate annual reports provide a snapshot of a company's operations and financial status. Reviewing and comparing years of annual reports can provide a rich history of knowledge on a corporation. Preserving, storing, and digitizing Canadian annual reports has been a mission of the C.B. “Bud” Johnston Library in London, Ontario, Canada. In late 2019 when Western Libraries migrated to a new library services platform, Alma, there was a new opportunity to catalog and provide access to the digitized annual reports collection. This study aims to find out and analyze the half-life and obsolescence of literature in Archival Journal articles for 2016-2020. This study applies a quantitative approach through the half-life analysis method. The population in this study used all samples, namely all articles in the 2016-2020 Archival Journal, which amounted to 54 articles with 1137 citations. Data collection uses digital data archiving techniques. The findings show that, on average, the half-life of literature is 8.6 years and follows the degree of updating of reference sources according to the Ministry of Education and Culture, which mentions reference sources of not more than …

Following the framework of critical librarianship and acknowledging our positionality as predominately white departments, George Mason University Libraries’ Metadata Services (MS) and Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) have been engaging in a variety of projects of reparative resource description. Archivists at the McGovern Historical Center are proud to announce the availability of the MS 200 John P. McGovern Medical Medallions Collection.

This collection consists of medallions commemorating people, conferences, and other events in the history of medicine. While many of the these were produced as commemorative items in the 1960s and 1970s, others date back as far as the late 1700s.
