Effective Archival Instruction When Embeddedness Won’T Work, Greg Johnson, Jennifer Ford

Over the past few years the standard “one shot” archives instruction session has been overshadowed in archival literature by a focus on the importance of embedded archivists, as well as emphasis on multiple guided instruction sessions for classes. These innovative techniques offer many advantages but this paper argues that the “one shot” model still holds relevance, especially for small institutions with limited staff sizes. Work on such sessions over the course of a decade have resulted in changes made to this model at the University of Mississippi, and this article discusses these changes and offers both lessons learned and examines …

This article is an examination of the history of gender demographics in the field of librarianship. The historic development and subsequent "feminization" of librarianship continues to influence the gender wage gap and the disproportionate leadership bias in the field today. This article examines the stereotyping of librarians and the cyclical effect of genderizing the profession. Consideration of current trends and data in librarian demographics demonstrates a consistent decrease in gender diversity, accompanied by a troubling lack of women leaders and executives. As the School Library Journal / National Coalition Against Censorship shows, self-censorship among youth and school librarians is on the rise. Though self-censorship has always been an issue in the library science profession, the practice seems to be growing now because books for youth and young adults are becoming more mature. Though this is not an excuse, it does raise the question as to what qualifies as self-censorship.

The purpose of this paper is to encourage librarians to teach digital archiving practices to journalists a) as a way of giving journalists the skills they need to save their work for future use and b) to facilitate the preservation of journalism for posterity. While personal digital archiving advocates have generally interpreted the word “personal” to be synonymous with “private,” this paper points to the need to expand the concept to include professional activities, particularly in light of the prevalence of telecommuting and freelance work arrangements, and the lack of support and training received by remote workers and independent contractors

The result shows that this animation serial represented school library purpose and utilization, especially in books club activities as one part of school library. This study discusses the user attitudes in handling library materials. The study was conducted at the library of University of Indonesia. This research uses qualitative approach with case study. The data was collected by conducting observation, interview, and document analysis. The finding shows there are some of book mutilation and vandalism activities caused by users. This study suggests that the library needs to conduct a user preservation education program to prevent vandalism.

This study aims to describe reading habits of elementary school student at Sekolah Dasar Negeri Anyelir 1 Depok Baru, Jawa Barat. This is a quantitative research with case study method. The data collected by distributing questionnaire towards 8 years old of 152 students at the particular school (total sampling population). The result shows that reading habit level of participants are categorized low. Less than 55% participants claimed they spent their leisure time for reading. The purpose of this study is to determine how the role of libraries and the perception of librarians in the BSC implementation at the Ministry of Finance and BPPT. The method used is qualitative descriptive to determine the role of libraries and quantitative descriptive to know the perception of library staff. The results show the role of libraries in the implementation of the BSC lies in the perspective of internal processes in the strategy map parent institution. This presentation will consider how almost 10,000 pictures from the Chicano/Mexicano farming communities of the Upper Rio Grande Valley of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico can contribute and alter the narrative of farm working. This digital collection documents over 30 years of farming with acequias, or communal irrigation canals, and captures themes of food production, the care of the land and environment, and water management. The goal of the SHARE initiative, a partnership between the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Center for Open Science (COS), is to build a “free, open, data set about research and scholarly activities across their life cycle.” As of August 2017, 161 repositories and publishers have made metadata available to SHARE for harvesting, and the aggregated data set is available for searching. Since the acquisition of Digital Commons and the launch of the FHSU Scholars Repository in January 2016, there has been an institutional effort to determine which platform is best suited to displaying existing content. Beginning in 2009, the FHSU Reveille Yearbooks collection had been hosted in CONTENTdm. The user experience for this collection left much to be desired.
