Programs That Work The Academic Cultural Enrichment Mentorship Program: An Innovative Approach To Serving African American Youth, Dan K. Hibbler Ph.D.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate an after-school

program that is designed to meet the specific needs of African Americanyouth. The program is called the Academic Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Mentorship Program and is sponsored, in part, by the Champaign ParkDistrict. The purpose of the program is to provide students with the competencies and skills needed to be involved, resilient, and successful.

The program seeks to foster positive Black identities in the participants, and to develop strong math, reading, oratorical, and analytical thinking skills. The program has a strong African cultural component, as well as academic and recreation components. …

This study investigated the patterns of and constraints to leisure participation of Korean immigrants in Western Australia. The socioeconomic and demographic attributes of Korean immigrants were examined using descriptive statistical methods and their effects on leisure participation were rigorously analysed using quantitative techniques, based on data that were collected from Korean immigrants in Western Australia. The study showed that Korean immigrants participated in more passive leisure activities such as home-based ones. Participation in more active or western style leisure activities especially sports was found to be considerably low. The study also looked at which variables could explain the change in …

A creel survey of recreational boat-based fishers on the west coast of Western Australia was conducted from September 1996 to August 1997 to provide information required by fisheries managers. The bus route method, where a survey interviewer visits all boat ramps in a district on the one day, was used. The time spent fishing, catch, demographic and attitudinal information was collected from boat crews returning to boat ramps at the completion of a fishing trip. Examines the direct impact of visitor spending on Missoula County, Montana. The methodology explores the application of the Travel and Tourism Satellite Accounts (TTSA's) to county level economic information in an attempt to develop a simplified method of estimating visitor spending at the local level. For this study, visitor spending reflects both Montana residents who reside outside of Missoula County as well as nonresident visitors to Montana.

This paper is a review of the literature relative to outdoor play practices in education. Benefits, as well as problems, associated with outdoor play practices were discussed. Guidelines for planning and implementing successful outdoor play practices were outlined and conclusions were drawn from the literature. Recommendations were made for future outdoor play programs.

Analysis of Secondary Data from the American Travel Survey Conducted by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Washington, DC A nationwide survey of approximately 80,000 households was conducted to document domestic travel patterns of Americans for an entire year. The survey was designed to record travel involving only the travelers' destinations. The data for each state were classified into three areas: nonresidents traveling to each state, each state's residents traveling within their state, and each state's residents traveling out-of-state. The results for Montana are presented in this report, and comparisons to ITRR nonresident data are made.
