Economic Implications Of The Policy For Pricing And Allocating Rice In Egypt, Sonia Mohamed Ali, B. Gardner Delworth Jul 1982

Economic Implications Of The Policy For Pricing And Allocating Rice In Egypt, Sonia Mohamed Ali, B. Gardner Delworth

Faculty Publications

Rice is both heavily subsidized and rationed in Egypt. This policy has significant distributive effects and especially benefits low income consumers in both urban and rural areas of the country. In addition, the policy has important allocative effects in shifting scarce resources to inefficient uses. This paper attempts to measure the economic inefficiency associated with this policy in order that the policy makers may judge better whether or not the distributive benefits are worth the efficiency costs.

A Study Of Drought Effects On Livestock Feeds And Products In The Western United States, Robert E. Blakeslee May 1982

A Study Of Drought Effects On Livestock Feeds And Products In The Western United States, Robert E. Blakeslee

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Through the use of a regionalized Linear Programming model, a profit maximized optimal solution was obtained for livestock feed and product production for a selected base year (1979). Production data, seasonality, transfer activities, and herd liquidation are developed for ten feeds and seven livestock products and incorporated within the model. Two drought induced simulations were imposed affecting feed production and feed prices, procuring new optimal results. Drought is simulated by the use of crop-weather indexes and range response equations.

Results are discussed and presented in tables for the base year and drought simulations. Results include profits, costs, feed and livestock …

The Role Of Economic Analysis In Public Range Management, B. Delworth Gardner

Faculty Publications

Economic analysis has a vital, if not indispensable, role to play in the management decisions of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM} if the national welfare is to be served effectively. This rather sweeping conclusion is justified by the nature of the management problems faced by the BLM and by the unique view of the world provided by the field of economics.

Framework For Examining The Economic Feasibility Of Small Scale Alcohol Plants, Thomas Dobbs, Randy Hoffman, Ardelle Lundeen Aug 1981

Framework For Examining The Economic Feasibility Of Small Scale Alcohol Plants, Thomas Dobbs, Randy Hoffman, Ardelle Lundeen

Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)

The feasibility of producing fuel alcohol from grain has received much attention from the Midwest and Plains States over the last few years. There has been interest in plants ranging from quite small on farm stills to very large, fuel-feed complexes costing many millions of dollars. As a result of this interest, several studies of the economic feasibility of large-scale fuel alcohol plants were conducted and published in the late 1970. More recently, a few studies of the economics of smaller-scale plants have been initiated, and some of the results are now beginning to appear in print (Hutchinson and Dobbs; …

Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Developments In 1980-81, Bruce B. Johnson, Ronald J. Hanson Jul 1981

Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Developments In 1980-81, Bruce B. Johnson, Ronald J. Hanson

Nebraska Farm Real Estate Reports

Farmland values have steadily appreciated over the past four decades, but the largest advances have occurred since 1971. During the last ten years, Nebraska farmland values have increased nearly twice as fast as inflation.

However, the past year ending February 1, 1981, was an exception. Farmland in Nebraska appreciated about 10 percent, which was comparable to the overall rise in the General Price Level. So, in real terms (purchasing power), farmland values were essentially stable across the State during the last year.

Considerable variation in value trends across Nebraska was evident in the findings of the Department of Ag Economics …
