A research experiment was performed in the Utah State University Child Development Laboratory on a group of pre-school children consisting of ten boys and ten girls between the ages of three and four years in an attempt to discover that teaching method which will best sustain a child's interest while teaching a foreign language in an experimental situation.

Newspaper advertising and retail pricing practices for turkeys were ascertained and gross retail margins established for three Utah markets, 1955 to 1966, and for 12 other selected U. S. markets, 1965 and 1966.

Turkey was extensively used as an advertised special item, particularly in holiday seasons. Food retailing organizations advertised turkey at low prices and margins at Thanksgiving and Christmas when consumer demand for turkey is traditionally strong. This study was a search for a valid and reliable tool for the measurement and appraisal of the Navajo student at Intermountain School whose cultural and bilingual background make many highly verbal tests untrustworthy. The two tests chosen for the study were the Chicago Non-verbal Examination and the Cattell Institute for Personality and Ability Testing Culture Free Test. It was assumed that these tests would call attention to students who had good intellectual ability but were below standard in reading and verbal development and had been overlooked because of their lack of verbal fluency.

Academic achievement at Utah State University was predicted for a sample of students from Cache County, Utah, high schools. Predictor variables were grade point averages for grades ten-twelve and the ten scores of the Iowa Tests of Educational Development.

Criteria included grade point ave rages after one quarter of college and after each college year. The effects of using the United States input-output table to explain Israel's economic structure was studied, by comparing price data generated on the basis of the U. S. tables and prices observed in the two countries. A substantial difference between prices generated and observed led to the conclusion that the technological structure of the United States cannot be used to approximate Israel's structure.

Various adjustments were then applied to the United States coefficient matrix to determine if it could be transformed into a new technological structure which would more closely approximate Israel's economy.

This study was undertaken to determine which characteristics, if any, distinguish exit from active milk producers; why producers exit from the industry; what happens to those resources formerly used in the dairy industry; the predictability of a producer either increasing or decreasing in size.

This study encompassed the milk producers in the Great Basin Federal Milk Market Area which is the central and northern part of Utah.

The feasibility of locating the major household appliance industry in Utah was studied by comparing a Utah location with present production sites for this commodity.

Major elements of cost were projected in detail according to a hypothetically constructed model. The Utah location showed advantages in transportation and labor costs while at the same time having a disadvantage in the cost of steel.

Since the analysis is made with respect to the model, which is based on certain assumptions, the use of different models would naturally lead to different results.

A study was made of cost and net return of the milking enterprise of selected D.H.I.A. members of Northern Utah.

Production cost for market milk ranged from $6.37 to $3.74 per 100 pounds of milk with the weighted average for all enterprises being $4.71 per 100 pounds of milk. Production cost amounted to an average of $538.24 per cow. Total receipts amounted to $4.64 per 100 pounds of milk or $531.18 per cow per year. Net return was calculated by deducting total cost from total receipts and amounted to minus $335 per enterprise or minus $7.23 per cow per year. …

The purpose of this study was to determine the economic impact of the College of Eastern Utah on Carbon County. The amount of income that accrued to County households, due to the College's presence in the County, was used as a measure of this impact.

The College expenditure flow to the County was $61,610. Faculty salaries amounted to $318,309, during the 1964-1965 fiscal year. Student expenditure flow to the County was estimated at $636,254.

The primary objective of this study was to establish a production function for alfalfa grown in the Sevier Valley using farm survey data. A secondary objective was to point out the analytical difficulties in establishing a production function for alfalfa.

A multiple regression model using 12 linear, 12 nonlinear, and 7 interaction terms was employed. A coefficient of determination of .70 was obtained for the model. Intercorrelation problems associated with the model limit its usefulness for economic and predictive purposes. The predictive value of the model was greatly increased by reducing the number of correlated variables included in the model. …

The purpose of this study was to determine if by alternating certain classes biennially the number of different teaching preparations could be reduced thus decreasing the teachers' load. The study also attempted to ascertain the effect this type of scheduling had upon the attitudes of teachers and students toward these classes. A further attempt was made to determine if mixing students from two grade levels resulted in the younger student being penalized with respect to his cumulative grade point average.

This study was designed to test the responses of a group of juvenile delinquests and a group of normal adolescents to a sentence completion test. The test used was a modified form of Sack's Sentence Completion test in two forms--form A, first person stems and form B, third person stems. The hypothesis to be tested were (1) people project more in the third person, (2) the normal projects more, and (3) there would be no difference in projection on neutral items. In December of 1963 the Defense Department phased out major activities in which Thiokol was engaged and during the next three year period about 4,000 workers were laid off. The greatest number of layoffs took place throughout the early months of 1964.

The Reclamation Ac t of 1902 was sign ed into law under the hand of President Theodore Roosevelt on June 17 of that year, culminating years of efforts to involve the federal government in reclamation projects. Prior to this Congress had enacted a variety of land laws designed to encourage private enterprise to develop the land and water resources of the nation, but had resisted using federal funds to construct reclamation works. The early land laws, however, served only as a temporary satisfaction to Western settlers, and Congress finally yielded to the pressure for assistance.

The success or failure of seedling adapted grasses in place of trees is contingent upon the revegetation techniques employed and upon fortuitous weather patterns. In order to formulate policy for Pinyon-Juniper control decisions, persons responsible for such policies need to know the risks of introducing range grasses into given areas.
