Censuses of two 20-acre plots in upper Logan Canyon, Utah, were made by the spot-mapping method during 1970 and 1971 to determine the differences in composition and density of breeding-bird populations in aspen stands of significantly different density and stature. The less dense stand of greater average d.b.h., average height and per cent ground cover had 20 breeding species totalling 615 pairs per 100 acres (expressed as equivalent territories). The more dense stand of smaller trees and brushy undergrowth had 14 breeding species with 267.5 equivalent territories per 100 acres. Nine species were found on both areas. This study estimated the 1972 costs and returns, and analyzed the physical response and economic relationships of corn hybrids for silage and grain production in some counties of Utah.

Average size of enterprise, land value and equipment value were estimated for silage and grain corn production in Utah.

Labor requirements for land preparation, growing and harvesting of silage and grain corn production were averaged. Net returns and costs (variable and fixed) for silage and grain corn production were computed in 30 farms of 15 counties of Utah to find the total production cost.

A sample of 100 trainees was randomly selected to represent the total population of Job Corpsmen in an urban center. The Job Corps Center in Clearfield, Utah, was the initial site in this study. This study was designed to reveal the self perception of unwed fathers. Ten men participated in the project; nine of them were 25 years of age or younger. To measure self perception an instrument was constructed in the form of a questionnaire. Each unwed father was then interviewed to discover his perceptions, particularly as they relate to their common plight of unwed fatherhood.

The men perceived themselves as normal young Americans, and felt their conduct and intentions were in compliance with peer expectations. Some of the subjects responded to the interview with descriptive and detailed accounts while others were either …

The relationship of level of education to degree of "internality" in home managers was investigated. Level of education was defined as the number of years of formal education completed. The degree of "internality" was defined as a score on Rotter's I-E Scale.

The instruments used were a background questionnaire and Rotter's I-E Scale.

This paper presents information obtained from 1972 and 1973 on the reproduction, survival and density of snowshoe hares (Lepus americanus) in Cache National Forest, Utah. The main objectives of the study were: (1) to estimate population densities; (2) to measure adult and juvenile mortality ; and (3) to measure natality rates , including recruitment (realized annual natality).

Live-trapping and snaring were used to estimate population levels and to collect hares for necropsy. Fecal pellet counts were used to evaluate relative habitat use by hares.

The purpose of this study was to determine if the mothers' feelings of self-esteem influence her attitudes toward child behavior.

Two groups were studied: One group of mothers who were receiving psychotherapy, and one group who were not.

Data for this study were collected by individually interviewing twenty-five mothers who were receiving psychotherapy and twenty-five mothers who were not. The mothers were presented a standardized questionnaire with thirty-five items. The mothers' responses were evaluated and the two groups were compared.

Language development of pre-school children was studied as it is related to a musical tutoring experience. Nine musical tutoring sessions, in addition to those of the regular curriculum, were given to the experimental group while the control group received no such tutoring experiences.

The experimental group, at the conclusion of the musical tutoring sessions, scored significantly higher than the control group when tested on the specific language concepts stressed in the tutoring sessions. The purpose of this study was to determine empirically if crossbreeding offers a more profitable alternative to Utah cattlemen than straightbreeding. Ranchers practicing breed crossing were interviewed to determine the relative merits of crossbreeding and straightbreeding in the categories of calf crop, weaning weight, sale price, and minor economic factors under ranch conditions. Crossbred and straightbred sale prices were analyzed utilizing the records of the Smithfield Livestock Auction.

In mixed fixed-ratio schedules, reinforcement is delivered according to two or more fixed-ratio components, which may be programmed in simple alternation or according to a random sequence. If the components simply alternate, the behavior is similar to that obtained in a multiple schedule. Pauses are long before long fixed ratios and short before short fixed ratios. This study was concerned with the effectiveness of two different programs for teaching remedial mathematics to community college students. An individualized instruction program, making use of independent study and the small group setting, was compared with the traditional lecture-textbook instruction program to determine if there existed significant differences in (a) the rate of attrition, and (b) mathematics performance. A sample of ninety subjects was drawn from basic psychology classes and randomly assigned to six groups in a variation of the Soloman 4-group design. The three main objectives in this study were: (1) to describe the foster mother's expressed reasons for taking a placement student, (2) to describe the problems and stresses associated with being an Indian placement foster mother, and (3) to describe the satisfactions and benefits of being a foster mother on the Indian Placement Program.

The sample for this study consisted of 44 foster mothers in Cache and Box Elder Counties who had had the same placement student for three or more consecutive years. The instrument utilized was a semi-structured interview with the foster mother.

This thesis examined the basic developmental concepts , space, quantity, time, miscellaneous, as they related to family size, sex, and rural-urban environment among kindergarten children.

The Boehm Test of Basic Concepts was individually administered to 53 students from two kindergarten classes--one from Ogden City School District and one from Cache County School District.

The findings indicated that family size, sex of the child, or urban-rural environment produced no significant differences in concept development among kindergarten children.
