Adolescent Pregnancy And Poverty: Implications For Social Policy, Clara L. Johnson

Adolescent pregnancy, per se, has been devoted little consideration by clinical observers and empirical researchers. For the most part, such pregnancies have received attention only insofar as they have occurred without the moral and legal sanctions of matrimony. This concern with illegitimacy has had the effect of blinding theorists and researchers to a whole segment of the adolescent pregnant population--the married teenager. Further, the adverse effects of adolescent pregnancy have been shrouded by moral precepts.

The current school desegregation crisis in Omaha makes a review of the issues in school desegregation especially relevant. Desegregation first referred to the dismantling of the southern dual school systems. The general principle is that the racial identity of schools should be removed. There should not be 'black' schools or 'white' schools, just schools. Since 1964, the courts have acted not only where the segregation was 'de jure' (by law) but in cases of 'de facto' segregation (where segregation existed without clear action …

The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

Although employment conditions in the Omaha SMSA present an overall view of relative prosperity and economic well-being, there is a wide disparity between black and white employment by occupation.² This disparity, along with an equally disturbing income disparity between blacks and whites in similar occupation groups, merits the immediate attention of local businessmen, politicians, and concerned citizens.

In market terms, a common explanation for black-white employment and income differentials hinges on differences in educational (i .e., skill) levels. Hence, a person's employability potential is to a large extent a function of educational preparation, and one would expect rather wide …

While student enrollment has declined in most public and private colleges in Nebraska, the University of Nebraska at Omaha has experienced substantial growth over the past five years. From 1968 to 1972, UNO gained a total of 2,329 students; an annual growth rate of 5.4 percent (see Tables I, II, and III). During this period, the number of full-time students enrolled at UNO increased at an annual rate of 4.0 percent while part-time enrollment increased at an annual rate of 7.1 percent. Job Satisfaction Of Police Officers In Second Class Cities In Kentucky, Joan Robertson

The purpose of this study is to attempt to find out how the police officers in the second-class cities in Kentucky view their work. Questions asked concern relationships with the public, their supervisors, and co-workers; opinions of recent court rulings affecting their work; and their sentiments about salaries and plans to continue in police work. After assessing the job satisfaction of the officers, the results were correlated with other studies and recommendations are made directed toward increasing the officers' motivation and effectiveness in performing their duties.

Designed as a comparative undertaking by the National League of Cities (NLC) , this study is officially entitled "National Research Agenda Project No. 5: Substandard Housing and the Cost of Providing Housing-Related Services." A similar study was carried out by the urban observatories in Denver and Nashville. Following the “rediscovery” of poverty in the Kennedy years (1960-1963) and the initiation of the Johnson-era (1968-1968) War on Poverty, there has been much interest in the social sciences on the question of the relationship between poverty and politics in American society. One of the most interesting hypothesis in recent research is the suggestion of a correlation between welfare payment levels in various states and the level of inter-party competition in those states. If this is the case, there is a strong case that citizens are being treated differently by their government in violation of the equal protection clause of …

A Study Of The Effect Of Drug Use On The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, Mary Ellen Hammons

The Drug Treatment and Training Project of the State of Oregon Mental Health Division, Alcohol and Drug section in Portland, Oregon is engaged in the treatment of young people between the ages of 15 and 27 who have indicated that they have a problem with drugs, and have asked help in overcoming this problem. As part of the treatment program, the clients are given the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and a questionnaire developed by the drug project. The thesis analyses the Drug Treatment’s MMPI results and compares them to other studies.
