Private Credentialing Of Health Care Personnel: An Antitrust Perspective, Part 1, Clark C. Havighurst, Nancy M. P. King
Faculty Scholarship
This Article explores the antitrust and other implications of private credentialing and accrediting programs in the health care industry. Although such programs are usually sponsored by powerful competitor groups, they serve the procompetitive purpose of providing useful information and authoritative advice to independent decision makers. Part One examines the risk that credentialing will sometimes be unfair to competitors and deceive consumers. Its survey of common-law, antitrust, and regulatory interventions to correct such unfairness and deception seeks to determine the degree of oversight to which credentialing and similar activities have been and should be subjected. In recommending that judicial or regulatory …

Private Credentialing Of Health Care Personnel: An Antitrust Perspective, Part 2, Clark C. Havighurst, Nancy M. P. King
Faculty Scholarship
Having argued in Part One against extensive judicial or regulatory interference with private personnel credentialing in the health care field, this Article now shifts its focus to emphasize the anticompetitive hazards inherent in credentialing as practiced by professional interests. Competitor-sponsored credentialing is shown to be a vital part of a larger cartel strategy to curb competition by standardizing personnel and services and controlling the flow of information to health care consumers. Instead of altering the conclusions reached in Part One, however, Part Two sets forth a new and hitherto unexplored agenda for antitrust enforcement, one that the authors believe will …

A Follow-Up Study Of The Goodrich Scholarship Program, The University Of Nebraska At Omaha, Wilda C. Stephenon
Publications
In 1972 the Goodrich Amendment to the state appropriation for the University of Nebraska at Omaha gave the University an "unparalleled opportunity" to develop further its educational offerings and services to students from low-income backgrounds. The intent of the amendment was to make funds available "for a program to get economically deprived young people in and through UNO." Named for State Senator Glenn Goodrich who introduced the legislation, the program was designed to provide an intellectually stimulating academic course of study augmented by whatever supportive services were needed. It would aid achievement rather than provide a remedial program to prepare …

Among the real measures recorded for the 1980 Census were per capita (individual) income, family income, household income, income type, poverty status, mortgage costs, housing value, and contract rent. Graying Of The Professoriate Reconsidered: The Impact Of Demographics On Criminal Justice Education, Vincent J. Webb, Timothy S. Bynum, Jack R. Greene

The demographic composition, especially the age structure of criminal justice faculty, is of interest to students in criminal justice education for a number of reasons. First, an overall assessment provides some gauge of the relative age of the faculty in the field. Second, observations of changes in the composition of the age structure over time provide insight into the aging process and attendant developmental process of the field itself. Third, age composition has a major impact on the job market for criminal justice faculty. This of course, in turn, partially determines career possibilities for neophytes in the field. It also …
