This work on urban research strategies in Egypt is the product of several factors. First of all is the challenge, excitement, diversity and stimulation of living in Egyptian cities, Cairo above all. Not only are Egyptian cities rooted in deep antiquity, but they have the richly stratified layers of a host of great civilizations. Modern urban Egypt is immeasurably complex in its own right, but its quite astounding past only adds to its wonderment. Thus, the chief inspiration for this publication is the wealthy cultural and historical context in which these scholars were assembled and where they sought to interpret …

Review Of Applied Urban Research 1983, Vol. 11, No. 01, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar)
Publications
This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Omaha Residential Sales Patterns, 1978-81," by Jack Ruff.
During the past few years, real estate markets have . undergone many adjustments. High interest rates, inflation, and competition for investment capital necessitated major changes. On a national level, the subject of housing sales has received considerable commentary. The ability of sellers in Omaha to exchange their units has probably been curtailed as well. This study attempts to examine real estate listings within the Omaha/Douglas County Multiple Listing Service areas (see Map 1) and describe some of the changes.

Towards The Holocaust: The Social And Economic Collapse Of The Weimar Republic, Michael N. Dobkowski, Isidor Wallimann
Towards The Holocaust: The Social And Economic Collapse Of The Weimar Republic, Michael N. Dobkowski, Isidor Wallimann
Books
The social system of Weimar Germany has always been controversial. From the start 1Weimar society was characterized by a peculiar fluidity: between 1913 and 1933, the German Reich, commonly referred to as the Weimar Republic, was a virtual laboratory of sociocultural experimentation. In the streets of German towns and cities, political armies competed for followers--a process punctuated by assassinations and advertised by street battles embroiling monarchists, imperial militarists, nihilistic war veterans, Communists, Socialists, anarchists, and National Socialists. Parliamentary activity involved about twenty-five political parties whose shifting alliances produced twenty governmental cabinets with an average lifespan of less than nine months.

Microcomputer And Local Government: A Program For Small And Rural Communities, Donald F. Norris
Microcomputer And Local Government: A Program For Small And Rural Communities, Donald F. Norris
Publications
For the first time since the Great Depression, local governments throughout the United States have begun to experience severe revenue-expenditure imbalances. Inflation, rising expectations, and citizen demands for services have produced governmental intervention into heretofore untouched areas. Combined with the generally decreasing rate of local revenue growth and with reductions in federal and state aid, this has produced serious fiscal problems for many local governments. With resources no longer available to provide prior levels of public services, many local governments have had to cut back on their activities.

Clear Writing For Public Administrators: A Refresher Workshop, Richard Streckfuss
Publications
Since you have been writing for years and since you have had many hours of classroom instruction in writing, you have a right to be skeptical about a writing workshop. What can be accomplished in a few hours that could not be accomplished in the preceding hundreds?
That question has been the guiding principle behind this material. The most promising approach seemed to lie in comparing the work of professional writers with amateurs. To this end, the writing of a dozen public administrators was compared to the writing of authors published in such works as Harper's, Smithsonian, INC, Nation's Business, …

Contemporary Social Historical Perspectives On Mental Health Reform, Lawrence O. Gostin
Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works
The argument presented in this article is that a new role has been developing in law which can and should be used as a strategy in the provision of services. It will be further argued that there is an important place for the law in setting limits on established psychiatric measures relating, for example, to compulsory admission and treatment, and even to particularly hazardous measures taken with the consent of the patient. The final role of law is to ensure the civil status of those who are the consumers of psychiatric services. One must accept the fact that pernicious legal …
Community Access In Northern Ontario The Problem Of Orphan Roads, David A. Frentress
Community Access In Northern Ontario The Problem Of Orphan Roads, David A. Frentress
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
In northern Ontario, long distances, harsh climatic and physiographic conditions and sparse population make transportation costly and problematic. This thesis examines the problem of orphan roads. An orphan road leads to a small, unincorporated community, but it is not under any type of road maintenance agreement. Five such roads were not under agreement for the 1982-1983 winter. These roads led to Biscotasing, Hillsport, Auden, Oba and Pagwa River. With the exception of Pagwa River, a case study of each situation was carried out to gain a clearer understanding of the problem in order that recommendations could be made. major recommendations …

The costs and public effects of using federal vocational education dollars in the local school district were studied. Twenty-five Washington school districts were randomly selected. Financial data were compiled and a survey distributed to these schools.
