The investigators determined that the victim was clearing a breaching lane bordered by barbed wire. When the wire got in the way too much, he stopped work to pull it aside. In pulling it aside he stepped outside the cleared area and trod on the mine. The mine was believed to be a PMN (from "found fragments") but there was concern expressed that the mine was "an MS3 (anti-lift device)" at the time. The victim's visor was damaged.

International Bulletin of Political Psychology
This is the third in a continuing IBPP series of articles about aviation terrorism. (See IBPP Vol. 1, Nos. 12 and 15 for the first two articles.) It was presented at the international conference entitled "Aviation Communication: A Multi-Cultural Forum" on April 9, 1997 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Arizona. Assessment Of Junior High/Middle School Agricultural Education Programs In Nebraska, Susan Fritz, Linda Moody
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications
The purpose of the study was to identify, describe and assess the junior high/middle school agricultural education programs in Nebraska. Seventy-three programs reported having a junior high/middle school agricultural education program. Most of the programs had been in existence 10 years or less. A clear majority of respondents had nine-week programs. Over half of the respondents that did not have junior high/middle school programs wanted to add the program, but the “school class schedule” was the most frequently identified deterrent. Those instructors not interested in adding a program cited a "full instructor schedule" as their major deterrent. For those who …

The Impact Of Downsizing On Logistics Performance And Employees In Shipper Firms, Ronald D. Anderson, Roger E. Jerman, Michael R. Crum
The Impact Of Downsizing On Logistics Performance And Employees In Shipper Firms, Ronald D. Anderson, Roger E. Jerman, Michael R. Crum
Journal of Transportation Management
Firms that downsize hope to achieve improvements in performance and to avoid adverse impacts on employees. This article compares the changes in logistics performance and logistics employee fulfillment for shippers that have downsized with those that have not. Two major conclusions of this research are: (1) Respondent firms that have downsized perceive that they have substantially improved their logistics performance, but no more so than respondent firms that have not downsized; and (2) Stress, morale, and loyalty have worsened for logistics employees in downsized respondent firms, both in an absolute sense and relative to respondent firms that have not downsized.
Telecommunications Divestment: An Erosion Of Democracy In The Caribbean, Patricia K. Mccormick
Telecommunications Divestment: An Erosion Of Democracy In The Caribbean, Patricia K. Mccormick
Communication Faculty Research Publications
This article examines the undemocratic process of telecommunications divestment in Jamaica and Trin- idad and Tobago. The divestment of the telecommunications sector was largely prompted by each state’s inability to service external debt. Despite espousing the importance of public participation in the ownership of state-owned en- terprises being divested, the governments each limited or excluded nationals from ownership of the telephony com- panies. Divestment of the telecommunications sector was principally undertaken through private negotiations with Cable and Wireless which has historically provided service to former British colonies. This continued colonization of the telecommunications sector is at odds with the democratic …

An Evaluation Of Contracts Between Managed Care Organizations And Community Mental Health And Substance Abuse Treatment And Prevention Agencies, Sara J. Rosenbaum, Karen Silver, Elizabeth Wehr
Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications
This study represents a descriptive, point-in-time examination of the structure and content of provider network agreements between managed care organizations (MCOs) and community mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) treatment and prevention agencies. This is not a study of the quality of managed care systems. Instead, this analysis is designed to assess provider contracts (one of the basic legal instruments on which the managed care system rests) and to identify the meaning of these instruments for MH/SA service providers, group purchasers, MCOs, individual consumers and their families, and public policy.

Wage Compensation For Job Risks : The Case Of Hong Kong, W. S. Siebert, Xiangdong Wei
Centre for Public Policy Studies : CPPS Working Paper Series
The paper provides an estimate of wage compensation for fatal job risk in Hong 'Kong. It uses the 1991 Population Census of Hong Kong merged with job fatality data collected by the Labour Department. The result shows that there is a positive and significant compensating wage differential for job fatal risk for manual workers in Hong Kong. The estimated “statistical value of a life” is approximately HK$10.8m in 1990 prices (about US$1.4m). While this figure is somewhat lower than many estimates for developed countries, it is much higher than workers’ compensation for permanent total incapacity (maximum at HK$297,000 in 1996) …
