Mr. Crump And His Successors: A Study Of The Negro In Memphis Politics, Jack H. Morris Jan 1960

Mr. Crump And His Successors: A Study Of The Negro In Memphis Politics, Jack H. Morris

Lawrence University Honors Projects

For nine decades voters in the South have cast their ballots

Thus two recent studies of the political South, Southern Politics in State and Nation by V. O. Key, Jr., and A Two-Party South? by Alexander …

American Participation In International Trade Fairs, Margaret Bassnett Jan 1960

American Participation In International Trade Fairs, Margaret Bassnett

Student Scholarship

This project examines the development and strategic implementation of American participation in international trade fairs. The study highlights a significant shift in United States foreign policy during the 1950s, transitioning from a period of relative absence at these global events to the establishment of a permanent, government-sponsored program. Central to this shift was the recognition of trade fairs as a critical front in the Cold War, where the Soviet Union had already established a dominant presence using vertical exhibits to promote communist ideology and industrial progress.

The report details the administrative structure of the program, specifically the role of the …

Henry A. Wallace: Quixotic Crusade 1948, Karl M. Schmidt

Books

THE TWO-PARTY system has been a feature of the American political scene for all except a few brief periods in our history. Yet, during most of the last 130 years, the traditional two major parties have had in virtually every election at least one minor-party competitor. Despite this persistence, there has been a continuing pattern of failure. Never has an American third party been successful in displacing a major competitor. (Both the Whigs and the Republicans grew and came to power in two of those rare periods when a single major party was dominant.) The presidential campaign of 1948 was …

Magic Square, Steven Samson

Faculty Publications and Presentations

My teachers often found it useful to keep me occupied with extra projects. I had a teacher in 2nd and 4th grade who brought things from Mexico and got me started studying Latin America. I began ordering booklets from Pemex, the OAS, and the Government Printing Office. In 4th grade, she gave me a corner of the classroom to keep information I gathered on Sputnik and which I shared with other students. At the end of sixth grade, I did a poster presentation at the Colorado Teachers Association meeting on the last days of the Belgian Congo. I enjoy intellectual …

in this issue. . .

FEW AMERICANS who have not visited Canada, our closest friend and ally to the north, have much appreciation for the fact that Canada is a separate and distinct sovereign nation, broad in expanse, magnificent in her natural endowments, and peopled with far more than red-coated members of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police. It was the editor's privilege to visit the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta in the summer of 1957 as director of a field trip whose personnel were basically Kansans, many of them school teachers in the Sunflower State. It was little short …
