The Effect Of Presidential Action On Popular Support Of Foreign Policy: The Case Of Vietnam, William Hines Jr.
The Effect Of Presidential Action On Popular Support Of Foreign Policy: The Case Of Vietnam, William Hines Jr.
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Explicitly stated the hypothesis that was tested was as follows: The relationship between Presidential action and an increase in public support for the President on matters of Vietnam policy is equal to zero.
Presidential action was viewed as any major development in Policy (whether it be military or political) toward the war. Furthermore, any major speech by the President or other high governmental official reaffirming the government's course of action was posited into the category of Presidential action. In order for the speech to be considered "major" it either had to have been broadcast over nationwide television or widely disseminated …

in this issue. . .
COMES JULY and the editors take their yearly vacation from worrying about the fate of the world, which looks both unpleasant and imminent, and concern themselves instead with literature, which concerns itself with the individual. In short, our Summer Literary Number has come round again, and as usual the emphasis is upon American authors. Not that we have a conscious bias, even though the editor-in-chief teaches American literature to college students who so far have been generously willing to find it relevant-and the more contemporary the more relevant. But it has occurred to us, and …

The Neo-Classical Contributions To The Theory Of International Trade, Mohammed Arifeen
The Neo-Classical Contributions To The Theory Of International Trade, Mohammed Arifeen
Economics Theses & Dissertations
In a dynamic economy some of the most challenging policy problems tend to originate in the realm of international economic relations. In the post World War II period, these problems have been intensified and become more complex. Students of international economics often feel perplexed by numerous divergent and diametric views that well-trained and prudent men frequently offer for the solutions of what appear to be rather simple problems. Lack of understanding of the theoretical framework of international trade is largely responsible for students' puzzlement.
It is the purpose of this thesis to assemble a minimum framework of the theoretical issues …

The Great Debate: An Examination Of Conflicting Views Regarding American Defense Policies, 1950-1951, Glen J. R. Jackson
Dissertations and Theses
This paper is an examination of conflicting views regarding American defense policy which surfaced in a debate during the winter and spring of 1950-51 between the Truman Administration and its supporters and a group of conservative Republicans. The research problem involved unraveling the debate's manifold issues, determining its outcome, and analyzing the impact of that outcome on the future of American foreign policy, particularly in Asia.
The debate's principle issues centered around American defense of Europe versus defense of Asia and the reliance on ground troops rather than on sea and air power. The Administration, while believing the United States …

Henry Carter Stuart: Virginia Farmer - Politician, 1855-1933, Sharon Kaye Brown
Henry Carter Stuart: Virginia Farmer - Politician, 1855-1933, Sharon Kaye Brown
Theses & Honors Papers
Henry Carter Stuart was a prominent farmer and wealthy businessman in Southwestern Virginia. He was a politician in the hard fought "Redeem the Ninth" Congressional election of 1910. And, he was elected, unopposed in both the primary and general elections, to the governorship of Virginia in 1913.
Although he reached the highest political office in the State, Virginia history gives Stuart no more than a mere mention. It was because of this lack of recognition that I selected to study Henry Carter Stuart. My purpose was to determine if he had been unfairly accorded the position of relative unimportance, or …

Greece: The Colonels' Puritan Revolution, Nikolaos E. Mpras
Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this paper is to examine the present political situation in Greece and the events that took place from the time that Papandreou's Center Union Party came to power in 1964 to the military coup d'etat in 1967. However, in order to develop a picture of what led to the coup of 1967, it is necessary not only to discuss specific events prior and during the coup, but also to present a brief background of modern Greek politics since Greece's independence from the Turks in 1821.
The paper is divided into five chapters: the first chapter briefly summarizes …

Authorizing The Mortgaging Of Tribal Lands On The Fort Berthold Reservation For Certain Purposes, United States Congress, Us Senate
US Government Documents Related to Indigenous Nations
This report from the United States (US) Senate Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, dated May 7, 1970, was written to accompany US Senate Bill 774 which sought to authorize the US Government to mortgage tribal lands in order to provide more economic stability for the tribes. The report indicates that the tribe had still not recovered from the economic collapse that occurred after they were forced to move from their lands due to the construction of the Garrison Dam.
