Summer Reading For Hearty Souls, Steven Samson

Each of these books stands as a reproach to our secularized educational system which fails to challenge either our minds or our hearts. Our growing ignorance of history and literature is severing the cultural lifeline of our civilization and orphaning our young people. As Zacharias (A Shattered Visage), Kuehnelt-Leddihn (Leftism Revisited), and Nickel (Mathematics: Is God Silent?) have shown, it is necessary to strip away the pretensions of our flight from God and begin a major facelift.

Terrorism On The Evening News: An Analysis Of Coverage Of The Twa Hostage Crisis On "Cbs Evening News", Ann M. Savage
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Terrorism and its news coverage have demonstrated to be a concern of the entire broadcast industry. Previous literature and studies suggest that terrorists rely heavily upon broadcast news response to their actions. Not only has it been suggested that news media actually become players in terroristic incidents, some have gone so far as to accuse networks of terrorism itself. This criticism contends that the networks depict an unbalanced representation of the activities that transpire. The network coverage of an incident that has been most notably criticized has been the TWA flight 847 hijacking and hostage taking in June of 1985. …
A Comparative Analysis Of U.S. Foreign Policy In Iran And The Philippines, Christina M. Blumel
A Comparative Analysis Of U.S. Foreign Policy In Iran And The Philippines, Christina M. Blumel
Dissertations and Theses
This paper is a comparative analysis of U.S. foreign policy towards Iran and the Philippines. The question which prompted this research topic was simple: why was the outcome for the United States so different in terms of subsequent relations with each state after the downfall of the Shah and Ferdinand Marcos? Both leaders were important U.S. allies in strategic states that had benefited from foreign aid. Opposition groups in each state resented this support of their repressive leaders. Unlike Iran, good relations with the Philippines continued during the Aquino presidency, without the resentment and mistrust which prevented good relations after …

Hannah Arendt, National Socialism And The Project Of Foundation, Robert Mayer
Hannah Arendt, National Socialism And The Project Of Foundation, Robert Mayer
Political Science: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Foundation is a crucial concept in Hannah Arendt's work. She was especially interested in modern attempts, successful and unsuccessful, to found new bodies politic. Arendt maintained, however, that totalitarian movements were hostile to the project of foundation. Far from seeking to stabilize the world, totalitarianism set the world in motion and tried to keep it moving. But when we turn to National Socialist ideology itself we discover that foundation was vital to the Nazi project; Hitler understood himself as the founder of his people. Arendt's own interpretation of Nazism is mistaken, but I believe that her general theory of foundation …

After Desert Storm...Desert Dilemmas?, Shaheen Mozaffar
Bridgewater Review
The “desert storm” has passed, but the Middle East remains suspended in the vortex of turbulent changes engendered by global and regional pressures. Stemming from the region's historical geopolitical significance, global pressures in the form of Western involvement have stimulated rapid economic development, irreversible social changes and unstable political modernization, transforming the Middle East in uneven and unpredictable ways. Even while attempting to advance the prosperity of their peoples, Middle Eastern nations have sought to preserve their individual cultural identities in the face of relentless external pressures and the fundamental changes they have wrought. In the process, their social fabric …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought
Offering a stimulating and much-needed comment on the current fashions in literary criticism, ROBERT GRUDIN also provides an alternative which, he urges, puts the text and the author in context, and literary theorists in their proper place vis-à-vis the work under scrutiny. Grudin is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Oregon.
PAUL J. SCHUMACHER explores Franz Kafka's discourse on transcendence in his unfinished novel, The Castle, and traces his meaning to Kierkegaard's investigation of the same topic. Associate Professor of English at Ball State University, Schumacher has recently completed a book-length manuscript on "Existentialism …

Graduate Program in International Studies Theses & Dissertations
This study examines the influence of United States/Soviet relations on network news coverage of Eastern Europe. It also measures the ideological character of network news reports about Eastern Europe or how television news in the United States is constructed along a particular ideological vision. The specific operational questions researched are: Is network news content influenced by trends in United States/Soviet relations?
