Evaluation Of Knowledge Exchange Efficiency In Academic Virtual Community Based On The Characteristics Of Author Network Structure, Shuqing Li, Tiansheng Zheng
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/Significance]The measurement of knowledge exchange efficiency of academic virtual community has a positive significance for understanding and improving the academic virtual community itself, and also provides a new application analysis field for the evaluation methods of knowledge exchange efficiency. [Methods/Process]This paper proposes a method to measure the efficiency of knowledge exchange in academic virtual community by using networks of blog author. The network node weights are designed by summarizing the total number of views, recommendations, comments and blog category of each blog author. The edge weights in network are designed by the blog author's domain characteristics and blog category. According …

[Purpose/significance]Faced with complex cross-domain emergencies, the barriers among intelligence resources, intelligence services and the rights and responsibilities within emergency management must be broken to generate embedded synergy, enhancing emergency management effectiveness. [Method/process]From the three perspectives of intelligence system guarantee, intelligence organization guarantee and early warning intelligence mechanism, this paper studies the basic guarantee, intelligence lack problem and realization path of cross-domain intelligence service emergencies based on the emergency management system and traditional intelligence collaborative service system. With embedded collaborative intelligence monitoring and collection systems and crisis early warning intelligence systems, an embedded collaborative intelligence service system framework is built. [Result/conclusion]Intelligence …

Implementing research findings influences professional growth, provides evidence, and improves practice. Time and money go to waste if research findings are not adequately used. This study was set to understand how LIS Masters and PhDs research findings influence professional practices in academic libraries. The qualitative study used an online semi-structured interview to collect data from twelve (12) selected academic libraries in the Sub Sahara, Africa. Data was analysed thematically. The participants of this study attest that research findings from Master’s and PhD students are integrated into activities and provide evidence for decision-making. However, no precise mechanism supported the implementation of …

Library Staff Online Writings
Connecticut Legal Research is part of a series of guides for legal researchers in individual states. The second edition of the series’ Connecticut volume is completely revised from the first edition and has different authors. The authors have the goal of explaining the sources of Connecticut law and the process of conducting legal research effectively, not only in the context of Connecticut, but more generally with federal and national resources. They succeed in that goal, giving detailed information about Connecticut law and resources for research, as well as extensive discussion of the legal research process overall.

Library Staff Online Writings
As a former independent kingdom that became a state in the United States, Hawai‘i has a unique legal history and culture. Research into Hawaiian law requires an awareness of the legal research issues that are common to every U.S. state, as well as issues specific to Hawai‘i. This first edition of Hawai‘i Legal Research meets the needs of researchers who are new to Hawaiian law, whether they are law students researching for the first time or more experienced practitioners. In addition to covering Hawai‘i state legal research, the authors discuss more general strategies that are useful for any researcher, including …

Listen Up: Perceptions Of Audiobooks By Teachers, Librarians, And Parents, Megan Bright
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Reading is a critical component of education. From learning to read, to eventually reading to learn, students and teachers rely upon texts to help make sense of the world around them. Methods and tools vary, but teachers, librarians, and parents can all agree that reading is a fundamental skill their students need. However, students are sometimes told to limit their use of audiobooks in favor of reading with their eyes. These limitations may prevent students from finding the books they love and also limit students’ opportunities to use books to learn about the world around them. This study sought to …
Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal
Identifying Youth Appeals In Alcohol Alternative Social Media Content Through Framing, Melina Oneal
West Chester University Master’s Theses
Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. Framing theory can be operationalized through the Content Appealing to Youth Index, an index of content elements found in research literature to be appealing to youth, to …
Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration In Digital History: Impact Of Classification On The Evaluation Of Publications, Papatsara Arsa
Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration In Digital History: Impact Of Classification On The Evaluation Of Publications, Papatsara Arsa
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The interdisciplinary nature of digital history presents challenges in retrieving and evaluating publications within scholarly communities. This research investigates the impact of classification on the evaluation of digital history research, collaboration patterns, and barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration. The study employs a scoping review of 109 publications from academic online databases and interviews with fifteen experts from eleven countries. Findings reveal that digital history can be identified within the academic landscape through distinct characteristics of scholarly communication, including publication venues, researcher affiliations, natural and controlled vocabularies, information-seeking behaviors, and publication practices. The study employs a pragmatist perspective, analyzing metadata to conceptualize …

Looking Back: Put A Reading Bathtub In The Library, Reinette F. Jones
Library Faculty and Staff Publications
Book lovers may remember when old school librarians warned children not to read library books while in the bathtub. Today those memories are in juxtaposition with the new National Read in the Bathtub Day on February 9th. The unanswered question is when exactly this special day became a thing. While the reference librarians search for a definitive answer, there is a companion question. Who came up with the fun idea to place a reading bathtub in the children’s library? A reading bathtub is just that, a bathtub in the public area of the library, an upholstered piece of library furniture …

Trans And Gender Diverse Inclusion In Academic Library Hiring, Keahi Adolpho, Stephen G. Krueger, Luke Sutherland, Adrian Williams
Library Faculty and Staff Publications
We do not know how many trans and gender diverse people work in libraries in the United States. Like the US Census, the American Library Association’s demographic survey of its members (which is by no means a complete or accurate representation of the profession) asks if respondents are male or female (Rosa & Henke, 2017). In addition to erasing anybody who is not one of these two things, this question does not provide information on whether respondents are trans or gender diverse. And yet, we are here: all four of the authors of this chapter are trans people who work …

Inclusiveness and honoring different cultures that reflect our patrons has been discussed in many different venues in the last few years. The staff of the Brigham Young University Library recognized the need for our metadata to demonstrate the commitment we have to honor others and to create a community of belonging. The staff also recognized that a policy would provide a roadmap for how to embark on fixing legacy metadata and how to move forward in creating metadata that reflects our core values in the library and at the university. This case study details how we developed an inclusive metadata …

The market for hiring a law librarian has changed significantly over the last few years. Those on both sides of the equation are a little uncertain about the whole process, wondering when the job search should start, how much to expect in pay, and what aspects of a position are up for discussion. The challenge of a limited pipeline of law librarians requires new approaches to recruiting.

Libraries, as third spaces that provide guidance, education, and access to information resources, are facing a wide range of challenges in light of increasing public access and interest in generative AI. Third spaces are spaces separate from work and home where a wide variety of individuals normally seek conversation and community. Academic libraries serve generative AI users with a variety of research needs and proficiencies, connecting users with institutional policy and guidance on the use of generative AI while supporting inquiry into generative AI tools as another type of information resource. The range of library user experience means libraries must …
