In PDEs with nontrivial Lie symmetry algebras, the Lie symmetry naturally yield Fourier and Laplace transforms of fundamental solutions. Applying this fact we discuss the semidirect product of the metaplectic group and the Heisenberg group, then induce a representation our group and use it to investigate the invariant solutions of a general differential equation of the form .

A so-called space of homogeneous type is a set equipped with a quasi-metric and a doubling measure. We give a survey of results spanning the last few decades concerning the geometric properties of such spaces, culminating in the description of a system of dyadic cubes in this setting whose properties mirror the more familiar dyadic lattices in R^n . We then use these cubes to prove a result pertaining to weighted inequality theory over such spaces. In this work, a quasi-static uncoupled theory of thermoelasticity based on time fractional heat conduction equation is used to model a thin circular plate, whose lower surface is maintained at zero temperature whereas the upper surface is insulated. The edge of the circular plate is fixed and clamped. Integral transform technique is used to derive the analytical solutions in the physi-cal domain. The numerical results for temperature distributions and thermal deflection are com-puted and represented graphically for Copper material.

Bruning considered sets of isospectral Schrodinger operators with smooth real potentials on a compact manifold of dimension three. He showed the set of potentials associated to an isospectral set is compact in the topology of smooth functions by relating the spectrum to the trace of the heat semi-group. Similarly, we can consider the resonances of Schrodinger operators with real valued potentials on Euclidean space of whose support lies inside a ball of fixed radius that generate the same resonances as some fixed Schrodinger operator, an ``isoresonant" set of potentials. On The Free And G-Saturated Weight Monoids Of Smooth Affine Spherical Varieties For G=Sl(N), Won Geun Kim

Let $X$ be an affine algebraic variety over $\mathbb{C}$ equipped with an action of a connected reductive group $G$. The weight monoid $\Gamma(X)$ of $X$ is the set of isomorphism classes of irreducible representations of $G$ that occur in the coordinate ring $\mathbb{C}[X]$ of $X$. Losev has shown that if $X$ is a smooth affine spherical variety, that is, if $X$ is smooth and $\mathbb{C}[X]$ is multiplicity-free as a representation of $G$, then $\Gamma(X)$ determines $X$ up to equivariant automorphism.

In this thesis, motivated by an observation of D. Hejhal, we show that the explicit formulae of A. Weil for sums over zeroes of Hecke L-functions, via the Maass-Selberg relation, occur in the continuous spectral terms in the Selberg trace formula over various number fields. In Part I, we discuss the relevant parts of the trace formulae classically and adelically, developing the necessary representation theoretic background. In Part II, we show how show the explicit formulae intervene, using the classical formulation of Weil; then we recast this in terms of Weil distributions and the adelic formulation of Weil. As an …

We consider a complex representation of an arbitrary planar polygon P centered at the origin. Let P(1) be the normalized polygon obtained from P by connecting the midpoints of its sides and normalizing the complex vector of vertex coordinates. We say that P(1) is a normalized average of P. We identify this averaging process with a special case of a circular convolution. We show that if the convolution is repeated many times, then for a large class of polygons the vertices of the limiting polygon lie either on an ellipse or on a star-shaped polygon. Nonlinear Harmonic Modes Of Steel Strings On An Electric Guitar, Joel Wenrich

Steel strings used on electric and acoustic guitars are non-ideal oscillators that can produce imperfect intonation. According to theory, this intonation should be a function of the bending stiffness of the string, which is related to the dimensions of length and thickness of the string. To test this theory, solid steel strings of three different linear densities were analyzed using an oscilloscope and a Fast Fourier Transform function. We found that strings exhibited more drastic nonlinear harmonic behavior as their effective length was shortened and as linear density increased.

We study two questions. When does a function belong to the union of Lebesgue spaces, and when does a function have an A1 majorant? We provide a systematic study of these questions and show that they are fundamentally related. We show that the union ofLwp(ℝn)spaces withw∈Apis equal to the union of all Banach function spaces for which the Hardy–Littlewood maximal function is bounded on the space itself and its associate space.

The purpose of this study was to learn more about the mathematics of tessellations and their artistic potential. Whenever I have seen tessellations, I always admire them. It is baffling how such complicated shapes can be repeated infinitely on the plane. This research aimed to increase the amount of tessellation information and activities available to secondary mathematics teachers by connecting the tessellations of Maurits Cornelis Escher with their underlying mathematics in order to use them for teaching secondary mathematics. We give a number of explicit matrix-algorithms for analysis/synthesis
in multi-phase filtering; i.e., the operation on discrete-time signals which
allow a separation into frequency-band components, one for each of the
ranges of bands, say N , starting with low-pass, and then corresponding
filtering in the other band-ranges. If there are N bands, the individual
filters will be combined into a single matrix action; so a representation of

We consider conditions on a given system F of vectors in Hilbert space H, forming a frame, which turn Hinto a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. It is assumed that the vectors in F are functions on some set Ω . We then identify conditions on these functions which automatically give H the structure of a reproducing kernel Hilbert space of functions on Ω. We further give an explicit formula for the kernel, and for the corresponding isometric isomorphism. Applications are given to Hilbert spaces associated to families of Gaussian processes.

In this paper, a numerical method for solving the systems of variable-coefficient coupled Burgers’ equation is proposed. The method is based on two-dimensional Legendre wavelets. Two-dimensional operational matrices of integration are introduced and then employed to find a solution to the systems of variable-coefficient coupled Burgers’ equation. Two examples are presented to illustrate the capability of the method. It is shown that the numerical results are in good agreement with the exact solutions for each problem.

Any data collected by this survey would be an example of partially ranked data, as the set of all possible flavors is only ranked into subsets of the chosen flavors and the non-chosen flavors. The finite affine group is a matrix group whose entries come from a finite field. A natural subgroup consists of those matrices whose entries all come from a subfield instead. In this paper, I will introduce intermediate sub- groups with entries from both the field and a subfield. I will also examine the representations of these intermediate subgroups as well as the branch- ing diagram for the resulting subgroup chain. This will allow us to create a fast Fourier transform for the group that uses asymptotically fewer opera- tions than the brute force algorithm.

The main goal of this paper is to present new transformations, previously non-existent in traditional mathematics, that we call centric mathematics (CM) but that became possible due to the new born eccentric mathematics, and, implicitly, to the supermathematics (SM).
As shown in this work, the new geometric transformations, namely conversion or transfiguration, wipe the boundaries between discrete and continuous geometric forms, showing that the first ones are also continuous, being just apparently discontinuous.

Interpolation by various types of splines is the standard procedure in many applications. In this paper we discuss harmonic spline “interpolation” (on the lines of a grid) as an alternative to polynomial spline interpolation (at vertices of a grid). We will discuss some advantages and drawbacks of this approach and present the asymptotics of the Lp-error for adaptive approximation by harmonic splines.

The theory of supercharacters, which generalizes classical character theory, was recently introduced by P. Diaconis and I.M. Isaacs, building upon earlier work of C. Andre. We study supercharacter theories on $(Z/nZ)^d$ induced by the actions of certain matrix groups, demonstrating that a variety of exponential sums of interest in number theory (e.g., Gauss, Ramanujan, and Kloosterman sums) arise in this manner. We develop a generalization of the discrete Fourier transform, in which supercharacters play the role of the Fourier exponential basis. We provide a corresponding uncertainty principle and compute the associated constants in several cases.

Frames are used in many signal processing applications. We consider the problem of constructing every frame whose frame operator has a given spectrum and whose vectors have prescribed lengths. For a given spectrum and set of lengths, we know when such a frame exists by the Schur-Horn Theorem; it exists if and only if its spectrum majorizes its squared lengths. We provide a more constructive proof of Horn's original result. This proof is based on a new method for constructing any and all frames whose frame operator has a prescribed spectrum and whose vectors have prescribed lengths. Constructing all such …

The theory of supercharacters, recently developed by Diaconis-Isaacs and Andre, can be used to derive the fundamental algebraic properties of Ramanujan sums. This machinery frequently yields one-line proofs of difficult identities and provides many novel formulas. In addition to exhibiting a new application of supercharacter theory, this article also serves as a blueprint for future work since some of the abstract results we develop are applicable in much greater generality.

A new family of multidimensional dimensional (MD) perfect reconstruction (PR) two channel filter banks with finite impulse response (FIR) filters induced from systems of biorthogonal MD scaling functions and wavelets are introduced. One of the advantages of this construction is that the biorthogonal scaling functions and wavelets are easy to establish due to the interpolatory property of the scaling functions to start with. The other advantage is that all filters can be centrosymmetric or bi-linear phase. Examples of two dimensional (2D) bi-linear phase PR twochannel FIR filter banks will be demonstrated.

Multidimensional perfect reconstruction (PR) quadrature mirror filter (QMF) banks with finite impulse response (FIR) filters induced from systems of biorthogonal multivariate scaling functions and wavelets are investigated. In particular, bivariate scaling functions and wavelets with dilation as an expansive integer matrix whose determinant is two in absolute value are considered.
