A Cell-Center Distribution Function For Liquid Argon, Arthur M. Soellner

"A theoretical expression for a cell-center distribution function was developed using a fundamental statistical mechanics approach. A free volume picture of the liquid was used with each atom located in a spherical cell formed by its nearest neighbors. Cell-center density distribution curves were obtained for liquid argon for temperatures of 84.4°K, 91.8°K, 126.7°K, 144.1°K, and 149.3°K and for argon gas at 149.3°K, and a comparison made with the experimental atomic distribution curves obtained by Eisenstein. For the first two temperatures a sharper, more definite structure was predicted by the cell model. For the remaining four temperatures, with the assumptions made, …

"A geological investigation of the northeast portion of Des Arc Quadrangle in southeast Missouri was completed during the summer of 1958. Exposed Precambrian rocks include, from oldest to youngest, undifferentiated purple rhyolites with an interlayered tile-red rhyolite, andesine basalts with interlayered tuff, and an andesite. A diabase dike intrudes the lower purple rhyolites. The purple rhyolites account for about ninety-seven percent of the Precambrian exposures. Exposed Paleozoic rocks belong to the Bonneterre formation and include three members: (1) Lower Brown dolomite; (2) Light Gray dolomite with Tom Sauk limestone and arkosic sandstone and conglomerate facies; and (3) Upper Brown dolomite. …

"Copper has been known to occur in Shannon County, Missouri since the early 1830's. A number of small deposits in an area around Eminence has been worked intermittently up to the present day. Little detailed geologic information is available on these deposits. The geology of the Eminence region consists of Precambrian rhyolite porphyry knobs projecting through dolomites and sandstones of Upper Cambrian and Ordovician age. A conglomerate of limited horizontal extent overlying the Precambrian is found at certain localities within the region. The only structures noted are the structural highs formed where the Paleozoic sediments lap upon the knobs. The …

"This thesis deals with the geology of the Diamond No. 2 Mine east of Gallup, New Mexico. The sedimentary rocks ranging from Triassic to Cretaceous are described in relation to the local stratigraphic setting.
The Dakota formation is the host rock of the ore deposit, and was therefore studied in detail with regard to its petrographic nature and the sedimentary structures such as slumping. "Although the discovery of the "Liesegang Rings" phenomenon was made sometime before 1855 little was done in the way of study or experimentation until 1896 when R. E. Liesegang discovered that if a crystal or strong solution of silver nitrate is added to a gelatin gel containing dilute potassium chromate, the resulting precipitate of silver chromate is not continuous, as might be expected, but forms a discontinuous periodic pattern. A usable sensitive time of 2.5 seconds has been achieved by the use of a system of five expansion valves, the first three of which are used to obtain the sensitive time and the final two to continue the expansion at a supersaturation slightly less than critical in order to allow all droplets formed to grow in size and fall into the liquid. "The Missouri "Lead Belt" comprises approximately 50 square miles, centering around the town of Flat River, in St. Francois County. Missouri. This district has been producing lead for more than 200 years, the total production being at least 8,000,000 tons of lead, valued at more than $1,000,000,000. For many years, the annual production of the district has been at least one-fourth of the total production in the United States.

"This thesis deals with the feasibility of efficiently detecting low energy positive ions, those with energies of less than several hundred electron volts, using phosphors.
The scintillation technique, first used visually and greatly improved in the last ten years by the use of a photomultiplier tube, has greatly advanced detection in high energy fields. The photomultiplier is capable of delivering milliampere pulses of current of short duration and these can be registered directly by the many electronic devices currently in use.

These alloys show promise of usefulness in instances in which high internal friction is needed to reduce the noise and vibrational stresses at resonant frequencies of a part of a machine. "The discovery of uranium in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming, by the U. S. Geological Survey in 1952 has lead to an extensive exploration program throughout the region by both private and governmental agencies. This report is a geological study of an area in the southwestern part of the basin.
Geological and radiometric mapping carried out as a part of this report indicated several areas of uranium occurrence. Some of these occurrences warrant tests by drilling.

Extensive mapping and stratigraphic work have been done in St. Louis and St. Charles Counties to the east and in Callaway and Boone Counties to the west. "The transport of heat in dielectric solids is attributed entirely to lattice waves whereas in metals there is in addition a transfer by the flow of valence electrons. The thermal conductivity of a non-electrical-conductor is limited by a number of scattering processes giving rise to thermal resistances. Scattering results from impurity atoms and from vacancies and dislocations within the crystal structure and from the interaction of the lattice vibrations amongst themselves. Scattering also occurs at the boundaries of the crystal. The thermal resistance of an ideal crystal at low temperatures is due almost entirely to boundary scattering and at high …
