Introduction: Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) encounter significant challenges in performing activities of daily living (ADLs). Adaptive equipment (AE) is widely recognized as essential for enhancing ADL participation, which in turn improves quality of life, autonomy, and long-term functional outcomes (Sturm et al., 2021). However, access to AE is hindered by barriers such as lack of personalization, lesion level, financial limitations, and limited rehabilitation access (Hertig-Godeschalk et al., 2017). 3D printing to create custom AE can increase patient satisfaction, adherence, and participation (Schwartz et al., 2019). The goal of this study was to evaluate how occupational therapists (OTs) contribute to patient care within multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), with a focus on the challenges and benefits of collaboration. The research was conducted at Quality Living Inc. (QLI), a rehabilitation center specializing in neurological recovery. Four healthcare professionals (two occupational therapists, one physical therapist, and one exercise assistant) participated in interviews, either in person or over Zoom during the spring 2025 semester. A brief survey was used to collect demographic data, and nineteen open-endemd interview questions guided the data collection process. Responses were analyzed thematically and categorized into three …

The caregiver coaching model, aligned with the Best Practices in Early Intervention (BPEI) framework, is a family-centered and strengths-based approach to Birth to Three early intervention. An estimated 1.2 million direct dementia care workers will be needed between 2020-2030 to meet the needs of persons living with dementia (PLWD) (AHCA/NCAL, 2021). The solutions come in the form of creating a site that promotes engagement in meaningful activities without the leadership of a staff member. By creating space for residents to engage in activities safely without staff guidance, a site allows residents to independently engage in a meaningful activity while freeing staff to help with other caregiving tasks. This capstone project examines the collaborative relationship between occupational therapists (OTs) and behavior analysts (BAs) at an Autism and Child Development Center. Through a mixed-methods approach, pre- and post-surveys assessed changes in perceptions of collaboration, communication, and role clarity among OTs, BAs, and registered behavior technicians (RBTs). The project included lunch-and-learn presentations designed to promote interdisciplinary understanding and teamwork. Results showed significant improvements in participants' confidence and knowledge regarding collaborative practices. Qualitative feedback emphasized the value of shared learning experiences in fostering mutual respect and reducing barriers. The purpose of this capstone is to conduct a quality improvement project of feeding evaluation forms while also gaining clinical practice skills at Piller Child Development in Phoenix, Arizona. Domestic violence significantly impacts the mental health and well-being of survivors and their children, often leading to disruptions in engagement and performance of occupations. This capstone project aimed to address these challenges by developing a therapeutic craft-based occupational therapy program at a domestic violence shelter. This capstone project aimed to develop and evaluate an occupation-based mental health program for student-athletes navigating the transitions in and out of sports. Guided by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO), Occupational Adaptation (OA), and Self-Determination Theory (SDT), intervention sessions contained six one-on-one sessions focused on identity reformation, building adaptive responses, and restructuring a meaningful routine. A mixed-methods approach was used to evaluate outcomes from two participants using the Brief-COPE, Athletic Identity Measurement Scale (AIMS), Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), satisfaction surveys, and thematic analysis of qualitative feedback. Stroke remains the leading cause of long-term disability, especially within the elderly population. Nearly 50 percent of stroke survivors never achieve full independence post-stroke. This literature review examines the capability of virtual reality (VR), as home-based continuation of stroke rehabilitation for elderly patients. VR has the potential to improve motor recovery, increase independence, and reduce healthcare costs for stroke survivors. A comprehensive literature review has been conducted following the PRISMA guidelines to evaluate VR therapy compared to conventional post-stroke therapy. VR rehabilitation demonstrated improvements in motor ability, however it did not demonstrate significantly superior improvements when compared to conventional therapy. …

Unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP) is a subtype of cerebral palsy that impacts movement and coordination on one side of the body. This condition often leads to reduced use of the affected upper extremity in daily tasks. This pilot study explored the feasibility and potential of a joystick-operated ride-on-toy training program as an engaging home-based and play-based intervention to promote affected upper extremity use in children with UCP. This project aimed to provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 trauma-informed occupational therapy interventions to a rural elementary school. Project components included implementing the “Just Right!” Sensory Curriculum (Wiggins & Wild, 2020) with students grades preK-6th, education to staff about trauma-informed classroom strategies, development of a sensory room for the elementary school, and creation of centers to be used in the classrooms. Key findings included a significant decrease in hyperactivity/inattention (p=0.00) on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, a 1.13 point average increase in staff members’ knowledge of trauma-informed classroom strategies on a 5-point Likert scale, and students reporting increased understanding …

In 2017, over 30,000 people were battling with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells within the brain, brain stem, and spinal cord (ALS Association, 2023). The individual’s brain loses connection with muscles, slowly taking away one’s ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe.
