The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy
Background: It is fundamental to understand why older adults choose and use technology to fully understand how to meet the needs of an aging population in a technologically advanced society. This research aimed to design and implement a holistic technology training program for older adults that explores using a laptop beyond basic internet use.
Method: A pre-post mixed-method survey study took place at a local senior center. A classroom-style program was designed to deliver information and instruction using a digital device. An 11-item survey on attitudes toward technology using a 7-point Likert scale with qualitative responses was used to collect …

Treating Cognition Through Occupational Performance In Individuals With Neurological Disorders In Home Health, Alcina J. Park
Occupational Therapy Capstone Presentations
Neurological Disorders (ND) like Alzheimer’s Disease, is one of the leading chronic diseases in older adults (National Council on Aging, 2023). One of the most common symptoms of ND is cognitive dysfunction, which prevent individuals with NDs from pursuing their daily occupations (Liu et al., 2019). This makes the exploration of treatment that delays functional decline in NDs imperative. This capstone project used cognitive therapy approaches Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy, and Cognitive Training, to combat cognitive decline …
Occupational Therapy Education On Transition Techniques, For The Adult/Geriatric Population, Promotes Caregiver Self-Efficacy To Move An Aging Adult Into A Cottage Or Pod Home Onto Caregiver Property, Robyn Yeary Pickett
MOT Student Capstones
Many aging adults prefer to age in place rather than in a facility such as a nursing home. However, many times individuals are no longer able to live safely alone and do not have the option to move into the caregiver's home. One positive alternative is moving into and aging in a cottage on a caregiver's property. Caregivers have reported the need for knowledge to successfully transition their loved ones into such home dwellings and/or assess them and their homes for continued safety. A presentation was provided to educate caregivers about the pod/cottage dwelling concept and how occupational therapists can …
