Current literature shows Hispanic/Latinx populations in the U.S. face health inequities. Amigos Medicos (AM) Clinic, located in Southwest Detroit, is a student-run free clinic that addresses these issues through preventive health screenings. We hosted a health fair in 2022 and invited other student organizations in efforts to connect the community to resources. Introduction: Current diagnostic guidelines for sleep disordered breathing (SDB) require that apneas and hypopneas be accompanied by a 4% desaturation for it to constitute a respiratory event (AHI-Accepted). However, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends expanding the diagnostic criteria to include apneas and hypopneas accompanied by a 3% desaturation or a cortical arousal for diagnosis (AHI-Recommended). We hypothesized that a clinical sample of both men and women would demonstrate that women are more likely to be misdiagnosed using the accepted criteria compared to the recommended criteria.

Black adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) are at increased risk for disparities in health outcomes. More research is necessary on the effects of neighborhood characteristics such as residential racial segregation (RRS) and neighborhood adversity on health.

149 Black youth with T1D were recruited from seven pediatric diabetes clinics in Detroit and Chicago to participate in a clinical trial to improve diabetes management. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used to conduct a database search on 03/29/2021. Included studies were peer- reviewed, in English language, and encompassed both a measure of PA during the COVID-19 pandemic and PA data for children aged 18 and younger. The opioid epidemic has severe consequences for pregnant women and their infants. Opioid use during pregnancy increases the risk of numerous poor outcomes at birth, including Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), preterm birth, and low birth weight. Opioid use during pregnancy can also lead to child protective services reports and foster care entry. This brief summarizes the findings from a recent study that used linked administrative data from Wisconsin from 2010-2019 and child protective service reports to evaluate the effects of exposure to prescription and illicit opioids during pregnancy on infant health and wellbeing at birth.

How Has The Opioid Overdose Crisis Affected Child Maltreatment In The U.S.?, Alexander Chapman

Population Health Research Brief Series

This brief summarizes results from a study examining the association between U.S. county-level opioid mortality rates and child maltreatment rates from 2007 to 2017. Places with higher opioid overdose mortality rates have higher rates of child maltreatment. Poverty makes this problem worse - where the proportion of families in poverty increases, the association between fatal opioid overdose rates and child maltreatment also increases. Findings suggest that intervening in opioid use by reducing poverty has the potential to markedly decrease the incidence of child maltreatment.

The U.S. opioid epidemic has led not only to unprecedented increases in opioid overdoses, functional impairment, and deaths among adults but also harmed children. After lifting a long-standing moratorium on drug treatment programs and increasing the number of medication-assisted opioid treatment programs (OTPs), Indiana saw a decrease in emergency overdose treatments and foster care placements. This brief explores the positive effects of medication-assisted treatments on children and their caregivers and the cost savings for foster care agencies.

Diaphragmatic hernia is protrusion of abdominal viscera into the chest cavity. Most commonly seen due to congenital defects in the diaphragm, hence causing herniation of abdominal contents including stomach, bowel, pancreas, omentum. Acquired diaphragmatic hernia can be secondary to injury to diaphragm. Patient presents with respiratory distress, due to reduced lung expansion. Early correlation with radiological scans is required for appropriate timely management, to prevent further deterioration of condition.

Introduction: Zambia is a multilingual country that uses 8 different languages for instruction including English and 7 other indigenous languages.

Methods: Survey research conducted between May-June 2022 on 6-7th graders within 9 Zambian schools. Classroom observations made and teachers interviewed.

Results: In Eastern and Southern Provinces, Zambian teachers speak an average of 5 languages while students speak an average of 2. Both teachers and students say English remains the most important language followed by first languages.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran kematian ibu sebelum dan setelah pandemi COVID-19 di Kota Depok.
