Objectives. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential use of Prostate Imaging – Reporting and Data System version 2 (PI-RADS) in combination with Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GST-P1) expression for an improved diagnosis of prostate cancer, in patients with inconclusive values of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Materials and Methods. The study was conducted on 80 patients for whom PSA values were evaluated and were found to be inconclusive (4-10 ng/ml). Diabetic foot is a severe complication of diabetes that occurs as a result of poor glycemic control, being associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Mortality associated with this disease is estimated at 5% in the first 12 months, and about 42% in the next 5 years. On average, it affects about 15% of people with diabetes during their lifetime, including as possible manifestations neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, and subsequent ulceration which, if treated incorrectly, can lead to amputation.

Important restrictive measures were imposed, so that the addressability of patients to medical services decreased. Given the varied etiopathogenesis, such operations are performed both as an emergency and as an elective procedure. Since 2007, the Branislav “Brano” Radovancevic Heart Failure Forum has been held annually to provide a venue for experts to present and discuss “Innovations and New Treatment Strategies in Heart Failure.” Clinicians and researchers gather yearly in a different Eastern European city to discuss the latest in heart failure diagnostics and therapeutics. The forum was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then resumed in September of 2021 in Graz, Austria. It was attended by over 75 faculty from 13 countries. Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts represent a surgical option for patients affected by increased intracranial hypertension when medical management fails or is contraindicated. Complications following implantation include shunt obstruction, infection, over and under drainage, migration or disconnection of the tube, formation of a pseudocyst, and allergy to the silicone tube. Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) outflow graft stenosis (OGS) is a rare but lethal complication. We present a case of a 79-year-old male with pertinent past medical history of an LVAD implanted as destination therapy, stage III chronic kidney disease, and hypertension. He was admitted for low-flow alarms, and the echocardiogram showed stable right ventricle function and no pericardial effusion. Invasive hemodynamic assessments demonstrated a peak-to-peak gradient of 90 mm Hg in the outflow graft between the mid and distal ends of the graft on pullback. Contrast angiography confirmed OGS. However, one major complication of left ventricular assist device support is an obstruction in the blood flow pathway. Pump thrombosis and outflow graft occlusion are some of the common causes of such obstructions. Here, we describe a unique case of HeartMate II (Abbott Laboratories) inflow cannula obstruction from a membranous structure without evidence of thrombus. Isolated external iliac vein aneurysm is exceedingly rare, not well-described in the literature, and presents several potential surgical approaches. Herein, we describe the case of a 72-year-old woman who presented with incidentally found 4.3 cm x 3.4 cm x 5.6 cm right external iliac vein aneurysm after undergoing magnetic resonance imaging for orthopedic work-up. She was treated via parallel supra- and infra-inguinal incisions and novel combination of primary aneurysmorrhaphy with intraluminal balloon mandrel-assisted closure. Background and Aims: Minimally adherent silver dressings (SILVER MASD) are antimicrobial, nonirritating, provide a moist wound healing environment, and low cost. The purpose of this pilot, single-center, non-blinded randomized controlled trial was to quantify the outcomes of acute surgical wounds treated with MASD versus standard of care (SoC) dressings. Methods: Thirty-two patients with acute wounds were randomized 1:1 to be treated with MASD once weekly or SoC following surgical excision of skin and/or subcutaneous tissue between September 13, 2016 and November 28, 2017. Background: The Midwest Pediatric Surgery Consortium (MWPSC) has suggested a management algorithm to include simple aspiration of primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP), failing which, Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) should be considered. The underlying etiology includes prolonged intraoperative ischemia or postoperative arterial inflow obstruction. In adult patients the role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC) is well established in the management of biliary complications post-liver transplantation. OBJECTIVE: Proposed methods of minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures within the temporal bone require measurements of surgically relevant distances and angles, which often require time-consuming manual segmentation of preoperative imaging. This study aims to describe an automatic segmentation and measurement extraction pipeline of temporal bone cone-beam computed tomography (CT) scans.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome with symptoms and signs that result from any structural or functional impairment of ventricular filling or ejection of blood. Limited data is available regarding the in-hospital outcomes of TAVR compared to SAVR in the octogenarian population with HF.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) remains a devastating disease that affects preterm infants. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donors have been shown to reduce the severity of NEC, but the optimal compound has yet to be identified. We hypothesized that oral H2S-Mesalamine (ATB-429) would improve outcomes in experimental NEC, and its benefits would be dependent on endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) pathways. High negative intrathoracic pressure (NIP), as occurs during obstructive sleep apnea or hiccups, results in adverse hemodynamic consequences, specifically a decrease in left ventricle (LV) performance. These untoward effects can potentially be catastrophic in the case of an already compromised LV in cardiogenic shock. The interplay of intra-aortic balloon pump counter pulsation during abrupt high NIP in cardiogenic shock is described.

We report the case of a 62-year-old man who presented with a progressive myelopathy secondary to spinal cord compression from an odontoid process fracture and subaxial central canal stenosis. The patient underwent a C1-T2 posterior decompression and instrumented fusion (PCDF) and did well immediately postoperatively. However, on POD1, he developed a right hypoglossal nerve (HN) palsy attributed to direct mechanical compression or injury from the C1 lateral mass screw (LMS), which improved following a revision and screw replacement. While HN injury is a known complication of high anterior and anterolateral cervical spine approaches as well as transcondylar screw fixation, this …
