Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including chronic hypertension, superimposed preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia, affect 10-20% of pregnancies and are a significant cause of maternal and perinatal mortality. The incidence of these disorders is rising due to factors such as advanced maternal age, obesity, assisted reproductive technology, and increased rates of preexisting comorbidities. We aimed to estimate the causal effect of treatment for genital Mycoplasma species on preterm birth (PTB) and spontaneous abortion (SA). We also evaluated treatment effects separately for cases with co-infection of Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma species.

Methods

This was a retrospective observational cohort study at a single center. Singleton mothers with one or more risk factors for PTBs were screened and treated for genital Mycoplasma species. The treatment was repeated based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results after each course. Amniotic fluid embolism is a life-threatening peripartum condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. It is defined as the passage of fetal material into the maternal circulation which elicits a multisystem reaction that can lead to disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and severe hemodynamic instability. Despite established diagnostic criteria for amniotic fluid embolism, its identification relies heavily on clinical judgment, and early diagnosis is key to patient survival. INTRODUCTION: The degree of improvement in serum creatinine (SCr) has previously been suggested as a sensitive indicator of treatment response in patients with hepatorenal syndrome-acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI), while HRS reversal remains the primary endpoint in clinical trials.

METHODS: A total of ≥ 30% SCr improvement was analyzed as an exploratory prespecified endpoint in the CONFIRM trial. In this post hoc analysis, intent-to-treat population data from three Phase 3 studies (OT-0401, REVERSE, and CONFIRM) conducted in North America in patients with HRS-AKI were pooled to assess the incidence of > 30% improvement in SCr and its association with clinical outcomes.

Stillbirth is a devastating and often avoidable adverse pregnancy outcome. Monitoring stillbirth levels and trends—in a comprehensive manner that leaves no one uncounted—is imperative for continuing progress in pregnancy loss reduction. This analysis, completed as part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021, methodically accounted for different stillbirth definitions with the aim of comprehensively estimating all stillbirths at 20 weeks or longer for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021.

Background/Objectives: Nephrolithiasis (kidney stones) is a frequently occurring urologic condition resulting in significant patient morbidity and healthcare costs. Despite the higher prevalence of metabolic risk factors for nephrolithiasis among Black women, there have been few epidemiologic studies of kidney stones focusing on this group.

Methods: We describe demographic and health characteristics, diagnostics, and metabolic profiles of US Black women with self-reported kidney stones. The women were participants in the Black Women’s Health Study (BWHS), a large prospective cohort of US Black women (median age 38 years) begun in 1995.

Also called the “great imitator,” syphilis tends to mimic other disease processes, which can lead to a delay in proper diagnosis and treatment. Case: We present the case of a 59-year-old woman who presented for evaluation of possible squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. Here, the high-throughput BD Vaginal Panel for BD COR System (VP-COR) performance was compared to that of the predicate, BD MAX Vaginal Panel for BD MAX System (VP-MAX). Clinical or contrived samples were used to determine the agreement between VP-COR and VP-MAX.
