Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder associated with a range of physical symptoms, including hirsutism, acne, weight gain, insulin resistance, and infertility. While its metabolic and reproductive manifestations are well characterized, the impact of PCOS on mental health remains underexplored. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between PCOS and mental health outcomes, with a particular focus on changes in symptoms following treatment and the influence of demographic factors.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects approximately 6 to 13% of adolescent girls in the United States.6 PCOS poses difficulty with diagnosing and treatment with adolescents as its symptoms are heterogenous and are often rationalized with other diagnoses. General anovulation is influenced by a combination of factors such as hypoandrogenism, hormonal imbalances, and an irregular menstrual cycle. Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition that presents with a wide variety of symptoms. The PCOS diagnosis standard is the Rotterdam criteria, which includes hyperandrogenism, oligo-anovulation, and polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM). Transvaginal ultrasounds have traditionally been used to evaluate PCOM, however, they are highly dependent on technician skill. This paper will evaluate research regarding the use of anti-Mullerian (AMH) in PCOS diagnosis as an alternative to transvaginal ultrasound.

The ovary is a dynamic organ that responds to many hormonal signals. When these hormonal signals are disrupted, ovarian dysfunction can occur. One such example is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS patients suffer from high levels of testosterone. Excess testosterone may misregulate genes in the ovary and disrupt ovarian function. The Claudin (Cldn) 3 and Cldn11 genes have been shown to be regulated by androgens in the testis, while studies in ovarian cancer cells suggests a coregulatory mechanism for the expressions of Cldn3 and Cldn4 in the ovary.
