Introduction Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorder (PASD) refers to a spectrum of abnormal invasion of the placenta into the uterus during pregnancy. PASD ranges in severity from involvement through the endometrial layer of the uterus to complete invasion involving other pelvic structures. This abnormal invasion can result in significant postpartum hemorrhage, often requiring large-volume transfusions, about six units of packed red blood cells on average. The maternal mortality rate associated with PASD is approximately 4-7%. The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) recommends that pregnancies complicated by PASD be delivered in hospitals with dedicated interdisciplinary teams, referred to as “Accreta Centers of …

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors composed of smooth muscle cells and connective tissue that develop within or on the walls of the uterus. Despite being non-cancerous, they can severely affect quality of life by causing heavy bleeding, chronic pain, and reproductive complications. Fibroids are typically found in women of reproductive age, but they disproportionately affect Black women, who experience higher incidence and severity. The underlying causes of this disparity is poorly understood; however, an emerging body of research is highlighting the role of phthalates, endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in many personal care products, in exacerbating fibroid development. BACKGROUND: Patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have a 40-70% lifetime risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, which is 9 times the risk of patients without a history of GDM. Joint association guidelines recommend a 75-gram, 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (GTT) at 4 to 12 weeks postpartum for all patients with GDM, and to follow-up with a primary care physician. Currently, less than half of these patients do not receive the recommended postpartum glucose testing and/or follow-up. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common infections in women and are often a reason for prescribing antibiotics. Appropriately treating these infections is vital to prevent significant health concerns such as pyelonephritis or sepsis. Introduction: Thoracic endometriosis syndrome (TES) is a rare condition in which functional endometrial tissue spreads to the thoracic cavity. Manifestations of TES include catamenial hemoptysis, pneumothorax, and pleural effusions along with symptoms of dyspnea, cough, and pleuritic chest pain.1 Approximately 6 to 10% of women of reproductive-age women develop TES with concurrent pelvic endometriosis in 80% of patients.2 Treatment of TES includes medical management with progesterone-based oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) and surgical management involving cardiothoracic surgery. Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolisms (PE) continues to be a leading cause of maternal mortality (MM) in the United States. VTE accounts for roughly 9-10% of all maternal deaths. Other countries have adopted anticoagulation protocols to reduce MM rates, but the US has yet to follow suit. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) all vary in their guidelines for thromboembolism prophylaxis. A Case of DNAJB9 with rapid renal progression to End-Stage Renal Disease in a patient with previously treated HCV Background Fibrillary glomerulonephritis (FGN) is a rare and progressive kidney disease, accounting for 0.5% to 1.4% of native kidney biopsies. It is characterized by non-amyloid fibrillar deposits in the extracellular matrix. Although historically regarded as idiopathic, recent studies have revealed associations with autoimmune diseases, malignancies, and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG) is widely used for induction and treatment of acute T-cell mediated rejection in renal transplant patients. Bradycardia is reported as a rare side effect of this medication (citation). With the increasing number of transplanted kidneys in today's world, there is greater need to understand the adverse effects of these drugs in transplant recipients.. Most cases of hematometra and/or hematocolpos occur in a relatively rare condition of imperforate hymen or Mullerian anomalies in children or adolescent patients. Case: We present a case of a 46 year old G2P2002 with a past surgical history of two C-sections with increasingly severe pelvic pain and abnormal uterine bleeding for the prior five years since her last Cesarean delivery. Adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) affect 10%-20% of pregnancies and are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Objective

To determine whether the history of APO is associated with a person's awareness of their cardiovascular risk factors (CRF) 2-7 years postpartum.

Methods

This is a secondary analysis of a multicenter cohort study in which nulliparous pregnant people were enrolled in the first trimester and followed prospectively. Participants with a CRF (hypertension, dyslipidemia, and/or prediabetes/diabetes) at follow-up were included. Clostridium, a genus of anaerobic, spore-forming bacteria, includes clinically and ecologically significant species like Clostridium difficile and Paeniclostridium sordellii. C. difficile causes antibiotic-associated colitis, while P. sordellii is linked to fatal infections and spontaneous abortions. Recent studies found both species in marine sediments, suggesting their role in environmental and wildlife health disturbances, including the 2013 mass mortality of over 300 manatees in the Indian River Lagoon. This study aimed to examine changes in racial disparities in pregnancy-related and maternal mortality before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.

Methodology

This was a cross-sectional study using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC WONDER) data from January 2018 to June 2024. We focused on pregnancy-related and maternal mortality among Black and White individuals to examine racial disparities. The study periods were defined as pre-pandemic (January 2018-March 2020), pandemic (April 2020-March 2022), and post-pandemic (April 2022-June 2024).
