OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of nitroglycerine on placenta delivery after retained placenta.

DESIGN: Systematic review with meta-analysis.

DATA SOURCES: MEDLINE, PROSPERO, Scopus, ClinicalTrials.gov, EMBASE, Sciencedirect, the Cochrane Library, Scielo were searched from their inception until February 2024.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SELECTING STUDIES: We included all randomized clinical trials comparing use of nitroglycerine (i.e. intervention group) with placebo or with no treatment (i.e. control group) given for retained placenta after vaginal delivery.

Introduction: Placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PASD) are associated with severe maternal morbidity, including hemorrhage requiring massive transfusion, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, coagulopathy, organ ischemia or failure, and death. The adherent placenta results in continuous mixed arterial and venous bleeding, preventing the uterus from adequately contracting. This can result in a blood loss rate of 600 mL or more per minute, posing a risk of exsanguination in less than five minutes. Recent advances in immunology have broken barriers in reproductive medicine through immune-modulating therapies that support fertility and pregnancy. Treatments such as intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and intralipid infusions are increasingly offered to patients with Recurrent Implantation Failure (RIF) or Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL), conditions that result in miscarriages and failed IVF treatments (Pillarysetti et al., 2023). Maternal-fetal immunology reveals a delicate interplay between immune tolerance and defense: the maternal system must accept a genetically foreign fetus while preserving immunological protection. Abstract

Introduction

Despite the recommendations of the United States Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, HPV immunization lags behind other routine vaccines by up to 31%. Although there are many reasons for the low vaccine rate, provider hesitancy and lack of confidence significantly contribute to suboptimal HPV vaccine uptake.

Objectives

This project aimed to utilize evidence-driven interventions to increase family nurse practitioners' (FNPs) knowledge and confidence in offering the HPV vaccine.

Methods

Participants were given pre- and post-questionnaire surveys. The Wilcoxon Rank Test was used to compare, quantify, and measure the results of the eight-week data collection.

Introduction Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorder (PASD) refers to a spectrum of abnormal invasion of the placenta into the uterus during pregnancy. PASD ranges in severity from involvement through the endometrial layer of the uterus to complete invasion involving other pelvic structures. This abnormal invasion can result in significant postpartum hemorrhage, often requiring large-volume transfusions, about six units of packed red blood cells on average. The maternal mortality rate associated with PASD is approximately 4-7%. The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) recommends that pregnancies complicated by PASD be delivered in hospitals with dedicated interdisciplinary teams, referred to as “Accreta Centers of …

BACKGROUND: Patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have a 40-70% lifetime risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, which is 9 times the risk of patients without a history of GDM. Joint association guidelines recommend a 75-gram, 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (GTT) at 4 to 12 weeks postpartum for all patients with GDM, and to follow-up with a primary care physician. Currently, less than half of these patients do not receive the recommended postpartum glucose testing and/or follow-up. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common infections in women and are often a reason for prescribing antibiotics. Appropriately treating these infections is vital to prevent significant health concerns such as pyelonephritis or sepsis. Introduction: Thoracic endometriosis syndrome (TES) is a rare condition in which functional endometrial tissue spreads to the thoracic cavity. Manifestations of TES include catamenial hemoptysis, pneumothorax, and pleural effusions along with symptoms of dyspnea, cough, and pleuritic chest pain.1 Approximately 6 to 10% of women of reproductive-age women develop TES with concurrent pelvic endometriosis in 80% of patients.2 Treatment of TES includes medical management with progesterone-based oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) and surgical management involving cardiothoracic surgery. Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolisms (PE) continues to be a leading cause of maternal mortality (MM) in the United States. VTE accounts for roughly 9-10% of all maternal deaths. Other countries have adopted anticoagulation protocols to reduce MM rates, but the US has yet to follow suit. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) all vary in their guidelines for thromboembolism prophylaxis. It is characterized by non-amyloid fibrillar deposits in the extracellular matrix. Although historically regarded as idiopathic, recent studies have revealed associations with autoimmune diseases, malignancies, and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. With the increasing number of transplanted kidneys in today's world, there is greater need to understand the adverse effects of these drugs in transplant recipients.. Most cases of hematometra and/or hematocolpos occur in a relatively rare condition of imperforate hymen or Mullerian anomalies in children or adolescent patients. Despite being non-cancerous, they can severely affect quality of life by causing heavy bleeding, chronic pain, and reproductive complications.
