A Case Of Vitiligo Treated By Sulphur, D Jha, L Debata

Vitiligo, as a cosmetic problem, is a source of great embarrassment to dark skinned people. An attempt was made by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) to ascertain the role of homoeopathic therapy and to identify homoeopathic medicines useful in the management of Vitiligo. Here is a case from the ongoing clinical research study on vitiligo at Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), Puri, treated by Sulphur. The case was followed up over a period of 2 years with marked improvement in white patches which is evident from the photographs.

Attitudes Toward Psychotropic Medications Among Psychotropic Medications Among Psychiatric Outpatients And The General Population, Stephanie A. Fife

Attitudes and beliefs towards psychotropic medication were evaluated among psychiatric outpatients, patients seeking buprenorphine for substance abuse, and nonusers in a general population. The Drug Attitude Inventory scale (DAI-10) and the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire General (BMQ-G) were used to assess attitudes and beliefs of 49 participants. The general population had a negative attitude toward psychotropic medication and the psychiatric groups showed positive attitudes. Compliance and noncompliance were not associated with attitudes or beliefs toward psychotropic medication. Other findings include that females had less positive attitudes and beliefs towards psychotropic medication than males. The current findings expand and support research …

Objective: To elicit the pharmacodynamic response of the drug Saraca Indica on healthy human beings in non-toxic doses. Methodology: Drug Saraca Indica was proved through a double-blind method. The study was conducted at 3 centers. The Homoeopathic prepration of the drug was proved in three potencies (6C, 30C and 200C) on 42 volunteers who were selected and declared apparently healthy during their pre-trial medical examination by the specialists and through their routine pathological investigation. In continuation of our short-term pilot studies reported earlier, results on certain toxicity biomarkers in volunteers who continued to take the potentized Arsenicum Album 200C till 2 years are presented. Out of some 130 verum-fed volunteers of pilot study, 96 continued to take the remedy till 6 months, 65 till 1 year and 15 among them continued till 2 years. They provided samples of their urine and blood at 6 months, 1 year and finally at 2 years. None out of 17 who received 'placebo turned up for providing blood or urine at these longer intervals. Rats were given 20% alcohol as compulsory drink for 6 months. They were treated separately with Nux vom 30, Chelidonium 30 & Carbon sulph 30, one dose daily for 30 days in the 6th month. After 6 months all the rats were autopsied & their blood samples were taken for serological tests. Atrio- ventricular valves of the rats were taken out, processed & examined for adrenergic nerve plexuses. Treatment with Nux vom 30 & Chelidonium 30 reduced significantly alcohol-induced degeneration of adrenergic nerve plexuses of rats as compared to the untreated control of alcohol fed rats. To assess the role of homoeopathic medicines in the treatment of the HIV infected persons, a study was undertaken by the CCRH at the Regional Research Institute, Mumbai in May 1989. The Individuals enrolled in the study were treated with homoeopathic medicine(s) on the basis of presenting signs and symptoms and their characteristics attributes, both mental/emotional and physical. Hemoglobin breakdown produces an iron-dependent neuronal injury after experimental CNS hemorrhage that may be attenuated by heme oxygenase (HO) inhibitors. The HO enzymes are phosphoproteins that are activated by phosphorylation in vitro. While testing the effect of kinase inhibitors in cortical cell cultures, we observed that HO activity was consistently decreased by the MEK inhibitor U0126. The present study tested the hypothesis that MEK/ERK pathway inhibitors reduce HO activity and neuronal vulnerability to hemoglobin. The MEK inhibitors U0126 and SL327 and the ERK inhibitor FR180204 reduced baseline culture HO activity by 35-50%, without altering the activity of recombinant HO-1 or …

This study examines the practice, use and perception of traditional medicine in the rural village of Bodo, on the south coast of Kenya. This paper surveys the different types, treatments, and education of traditional medical practitioners, as well as assesses the accessibility of both traditional and conventional medicine facilities. Secondly, it addresses the perceptions of different community members of illness and healthcare, and, in the light of recent attempts to integrate traditional medicine into the national healthcare system, examines how these perceptions work in conjunction with accessibility to influence the use of healthcare.

Methods: This is an interim analysis of the open clinical observational study conducted by the Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), at Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) under Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy from October 2005 to March 2009. The latex extracted from Euphorbia tirucalli, a plant popularly known as Aveloz, is used in complementary medicine to induce tumor regression. However, as this latex has toxic effects when administered orally in ponderal doses, the present study was designed to assess the effects of high dilutions in healthy mice over a period of 18 weeks. The most common form of diabetic neuropathy is diabetic distal symmetric polyneuropathy. It most frequently presents with distal sensory loss. Treatment of diabetic neuropathy is unsatisfactory in modern treatment. A case of Diabetic Distal Symmetric Polyneuropathy in a 40-year-old male treated with homoeopathy is reported here. This case shows the efficacy of homoeopathic medicine, Phosphorus, in giving not only symptomatic relief to the patient but also improving the pathological findings and peripheral nerve conduction.
